  1. Difficult? on Bill Gates Speaks Out Against Immigration Policies · · Score: 1

Maybe it is difficult, I'm not certian. I do know the US immigrates more people than all other countrys in the world combined. So its apparently worth the effort.

Agreed! but I wish we had instant run off elections http://www.instantrunoff.com/ to reform the B.S. 2 party system. I wrote my Congressmen about it, and got a nice (hand signed) form letter about it. Makes me think that they all know about it but will not change unless forced to.

  5. More reliable? on Cable VoIP Sounds Better Than Some Landlines · · Score: 1

I'm not sure how they come up with the reliablility comparisons. Wouldn't all phone systems depend on each other? If I called your VoIP # from my land line and it wouldn't go through, how would I know who is to blame? Seems to me like I would have to ask one of the companys. Of course I'm sure they would tell me the truth. Also if one company services 10,000 calls a day and the other 10 billion is there success rate comparable? (not saying those are the #'s I have no idea but I'm sure there are far fewer VoIP calls) I wouldn't think so. Anyone whos used VoIP of any kind will tell you it has many advantages but reliablity is not one of them, the second you plug your modem or VoIP phone into the power outlet you should realizes that.

Yeah, I agree and the media player on the a900 is kinda crappy, but I'm speculating that the next generation of wireless devices will fix that (not nessasarily a phone, maybe a net enabled ipod? that would certainly sell to the religiously Apple\ipod faithful)

  7. Re:Massive Drop In iPod Demand on Apple Dumps PortalPlayer Chip · · Score: 1

Umm yeah, your talking about purcahsing music via the cell phone stores. I'm not. I could go into it but if your actually interested check out http://www.orb.com/ This is streaming my own music from my net connected computer at home, again just check out Orb for the details. The unlimited data plan from sprint is an additional $15 a month, but I can also use the phone as a Bluetooth modem, for my laptop, or pda.

  8. Re:Massive Drop In iPod Demand on Apple Dumps PortalPlayer Chip · · Score: 1

The battery life is not that great ( 3 hrs continuous? ) when streaming music ove the net ( I plug it in, in my car ) It streams perfect CD qaulity audio ( make sure to get the latest version of orb for the best sound quality ).

Your probably right, the only thing that makes people buy an ipod is they believe its cool. I guess the question is what is it that makes them believe that?

  10. Re:Massive Drop In iPod Demand on Apple Dumps PortalPlayer Chip · · Score: 1

I can stream my entire music collection (regardless of format) in stereo to my samsung a900 phone from Orb ( http://www.orb.com/ ) running on my home computer, from anywhere I get sprint coverage ( which is more places than I ever go ) limited only by the size of my hard drive and no syncing or even thinking about it. So without some drastic changes the next generation of phones (or some kind of wireless net connected music playing device) should kill the ipod. (I said should)

  11. Open Data Formats not Document on MN Bill Would Require Use of Open Data Formats · · Score: 1

I don't think the intent of this bill has anything to do with the Open Document standards, MS Word, or OpenOffice. I work for a vendor that provides systems for MN state agencies (law enforcement) and there is big hoop-la with XML based web services and otherwise data sharing. There are several state run systems in place and many more up and coming to facilitate and even mandate XML based data sharing (with a state defined schema) for law enforcement agencies. It seems to me this has more to do with data-bases than data-documents.

  12. Sony, Dell, Bose Software? on Sony More Trustworthy Than Microsoft · · Score: 1

Do the brand ratings of 3 (uh mostly electronics?) companys have much to do with a software company? Granted Microsoft is hated and will always score very low, but I doubt there are very many software companys that would get a great rating.
