All the competing browsers need to give over their power to the senate, so that the senate can bring peace to the browser wars more swiftly. That's the best way to do things.
Now write a proposal to fund your study. I'd think it would take no more than about $6 million and 9 years to complete. Your results can say whatever you want them to. That's not the important part. Funding is important.
uh... okay. So if an app slowly creeps up in memory usage, going from 20 MB or so to over 100 MB, you don't think that'll have an affect on other apps? The other apps will have to rely on virtual memory instead of real memory. Computers 101.
Another note, it didn't look small and dainty, or at least I didn't grok it so. It was HUGE, and that gargantuan "fly" sitting on it (previously thought to be extinct) will be the next big story. Shoot, that fly was like 1 1/2 inches across my screen. That's a big a$$ fly!

SOLUTION: Don't listen to the radio. Get an XM radio. It tells you the song, plus you can rewind the last 30 minutes. Find a friend who has an XM radio and get them to add yours for $6.99/mo.

Kudos to all who contribute to projects such as Linux. From its inception, it has been a grassroots initiative to provide better for less. It's sad for the people who have been laid off, but it's part of the economy we live in. These people won't be out of the job for long though. Keep your heads up, guys!
And you say that because putting Microsoft technologies out of business has already proven to be so simple?
No, I'm afraid the only way to make Pi$$port go away is to keep it out of sight. It pops up right away after any user logs in initially (in XP). That's why people sign up for that service. They see it pop up, so they immediately fill out the form, like good little form-filler-outers. And web sites see their subscription numbers, and then adopt Pi$$port. Can you say "Court injunction"?
Wrong attitude. If you were fired today, believe, me, the organization would survive. It wouldn't take too long for them to figure out what you did and recreate the process.
What you need to do is document thoroughly, and do a good job. If you do a great job, you are less likely to be fired. Understandably, there will be layoffs and so forth, but those aren't often firings from animosity. I wouldn't want to keep employing a person who keeps processes locked in. I'd want to get rid of that person sooner, rather than later, despite how "irreplaceable" that person was. There's no such thing as irreplaceable.
For the benefit of the true geeks out there who require definitions, the parent fails to point out that there is a difference between barbequeing and grilling.
Barbequeing is truly an art. It takes hours to do, because the meat (chicken, pork, ribs, etc) cooks by indirect heat and smoke. You often mop on a sauce to keep the meat from drying out. Whatever you eat is often best topped with barbeque sauce. Homemade stuff, not the crap from the store.
Grilling, on the other hand, is simply cooking over an open flame. This is where burgers, steaks, etc. are cooked within 20-30 minutes. And do not think for a minute that it is less important. The open flame grill is what you have to thank every time you go to a steak house.
A final note: I am a Texan, and thank God I was here to set y'all straight. If all y'all went simply by what the parent said, you'd all be misinformed for life. Gig 'em!
No terms were disclosed. Top dollar is your term. They basically paid the developers/owners off, and made a quick acquisition. If terms of the sale were disclosed, we'd have a better perspective of whether this was a sound business decision or not. Since they provide no terms, who's to say?
Plus, unneccessary, inexpensive services are also a very big business. (see any online music service - ever seen an essential one?)
Strong words for an old-timer like you. You should know better. Did you buy that ID on eBay?
This is far from an egregious error. If it fails, it fails. If it succeeds, they reap the rewards. What are the chances of a business model such as this one failing? At this point, much lower than before. Apparently there were other idiots already using the service, but as soon as Google ties this system into their existing Hello, Picassa, and (possibly) future IM client, I believe potential is just oozing. There is no bigger gadget money-maker out there than cell phones. iPods are a distant second. And the high school/young college market is teeming with kids willing to pay for an inexpensive, unneeded service just like this. If it's free though, and it keeps them using Google services and so forth, how can this lose?
Exactly. You're the kind of forward thinker my organization needs. Please send me your resume. Resumé.
Aw hell, just send me your CV, please.
Dear slashdotters,
What's wrong with those labels?
Sincerely,
Google

Swamp gas. It was all swamp gas, ladies and gentlemen.

You're going to have to cease and desist on the usage of the word "right". We recently patented it.
Thanks,

First comment on that story: "Dupe"
And off-site 850 GB backups on DVD's.
Gee. You're such the soothsayer.

I blame it on Star Wars episodes 4-6.
Exactly! Finally, someone who gets it!

It might be called a Re-Ray or Purpl-Ray disc. Or maybe a Gr-Ray disc.
That's what I think too. That's why I choose to be on dial-up. Dial-up r0x0rs!
Another note: I usually like to 80% my information. ;-)

I agree with the AC parent here, except that in Texas, we'd say, "You're a fidiot." There is also the plural form of that: "Y'all are fidiots!"
NOTE: All o' the contract-ions in this post we're us'd correctly.
Too many people they had to pass on hiring. They want all the brilliant virus, spyware, adware writers on their team.
HELLO (Picasa share client)
I wonder if Apple's French language Bonjour download would be called Hello. I hope Google doesn't sue over this one.
Oh wait. Never mind. That might be perceived as evil.
