I do agree with you that ignorance of the law can not be allowed as an excuse. But it does seem rediculous to me that the legal code continues to get bigger and more complex while almost nothing is ever removed. It is illegal to eat an orange in a hotel room in California, and one new england state still has a law on the books that a woman driving a vehicle must be led by a man waving a flag as a warning. Then on top of all of that, we (in the US) now have secret laws that you aren't even allowed to know about. How is it possible to learn the laws to follow when it is illegal to learn the laws to follow.
I think there should be a group in goverment who's sole job is to remove old or uneeded laws. Congress' job is to pass new laws. They can and do change laws, but rarely do they remove out-dated laws. Either every law should have a sunset time, where it must be voted in again to stay current, or another section of the government should have the sole job of going though the law code and pruning it from the crap that accumulates.
That reminds me of that joke about the group of people that just tell jokes by number.
And the new guy stands up and yells out "number 42"! Everyone starts laughing hysterically! The guy next to him explains that he never heard it told that way before.
Some animals can even survive open space and lay eggs that hatch afterwards. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out a bacteria, lichen, or tardigrade made it to another planet.
"MASTER of survival. Can withstand pressures six times greater than those at the bottom of the ocean and endure temperatures ranging from more than 100 C down to absolute zero. Can shrug off lethal radiation, survive in a vacuum and go without water for more than a century."
I take strong offense to you statement about people with kids rolling over for security. I have kids and I don't feel that the government keeps me safe. In fact, I think the largest chance I have of getting shot or kidnapped is by the blue coated mafia organization funded by the goverment we call the police. Believe me, my daughter, and son on the way, will grow up learning how we are no longer a free country like they might hear from their brain dead peers and the media!
You are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute.
Your repeated violation of the Verbal Morality Statute has caused me to notify the San Angeles Police Department. Please remain where you are for your reprimand.
Well, if the corporations feel that they can "steal" from the public domain by extending copyright past what it was when the work was created, then I feel that I can steal from them. In fact, I feel it is the moral thing to do. Paying for the works owned by immoral companies is wrong as you are giving money that will then be used to steal more from society.
"You wouldn't steal a car, would you?" . . . Yeah, right! Such hippocrites.
I remember someone here in a previous discusion about chimeras pointing out the male / female chicken chimeras that happen naturally. Check out this for a nice picture of a chicken that is two different colors, split right down the middle. In fact the two halves are different sexes as well. Or search google images for "chicken chimera" for pictures of others.
Yeah, but grouping together gets you labeled as a terrorist. I even heard they were calling the Occupy Wall Street protesters terrorists. And with the current laws that you can be locked up indeffinately without a trial if you are a terrorist, then you don't even have the power to group together to protest what the government is doing any more.
When the ballot box is useless, and the soap box is illeagal, then the only option left is the ammo box!
Or getting a Sony flat screen TV that starts loosing the picture after two years. My In-Laws were bit with that and now Sony is on their shit-list. They aren't even techie slashdoters that would follow all the crap that Sony pulls on their customers. But now that they have been hit by a crap product with no support, they won't fall for that again.
How about if the company in question files too many bogus patents they loose their right to file any more for a period of 5 years. Something like this would surely make them think long and hard about whether the pantent is worth it or not.
I remember that remote. I had one of those when I was young also. Once, my dad came into the room with a length of chain in his hand and it cause the TV to change channels. Very interesting technology.
Wild viruses and bacteria do not come with alluminum, mercury, monkey kidneys, formaldehyde, and all the other things put into vaccines. alluminum has been shown to cause problems in adults when injected into their bloodstream. Yet we stick many vaccines into very young children at the same time. I am not against vaccines, but I think there are too many of them being pushed onto the young. Instead of letting the immune system learn from one vaccine at a time, we think it is better to overwelm it with over a half dozen at once. Plus, why do they push vaccines for things that are super rare and no worse than having a cold? You go ahead and stick everything anybody tells you into your and your kids bodies. I will make informed decisions about what I will be sticking into mine!
The laws that were created to get rid of marijuana did not make it illegal. They made it so you needed a stamp. The fact that they did not sell stamps was a seperate issue.
And the people who were building the Death Star were good innocent people also. The didn't deserve to die when the Rebels blew it up. Just think of their families back home. This also applies to the people working in death camps.
I disagree! I say roast them all until they simmer in their own juices!
So if I put into my site's TOS that no government agencies or people are allowed to view my site, does that make it illegal for them to do it? And what about if the TOS says the site will never give data to the government even with a warrent? Will that have to be followed also so as to not break the law?
These are really just useless thought though, as the goverment does not worry about itself following any laws. It has gone so far past any legitamacy that I can't wait for it to collapse like the old Roman empire so we can start over with something new and hopefully better.
I don't see any way to breed (our history of genetic modification) a terminator gene into a plant. If it can't have offspring, then you can't breed that gene into it. I also would imagine it would be pretty hard to breed glow-in-the-dark rabbits the natural way. I think it is interesting that the people who don't want labeling somehow claim they are for the free market.
Why don't they just stop then? Nobody is making them spend the money policing their content. They admit it themselves that the effort they put in is completly wasted as new copies pop up almost immediately. So it makes ecconomic sense to stop spending money trying to find and remove the content. I guess they are not smart enough to read their own balance sheets!
Genes causing people, especially children, to fall over and die when exposed to nuts cannot possibly be widespread in humanity. That is completely insane. It's like being allergic to water.(1) It's clearly some sort of genetic mutation or defect or outside disease, and not actually a normal combination of genes from their ancestors.
I'm talking actual nuts, not peanuts. Peanuts just make a microscopic amount more sense, as they are 'new world' only and thus the vast majority of the planet's ancestors have only been eating them for 300 years or so. But, still, peanut allergies don't make a lot of sense either.
What you say makes sense if the allergies are genetically related. I don't think they are though. Look at the third world countries. They have almost no nut allergies. Their immune systems are busy fighting off actual diseases so they don't develop allergies to basic things. Even in our hyper-sanitized USA, kids who grew up with a dog or cat can go off to college and come back with a new allergy to the animals. They had it before, but didn't show symptoms as they were exposed all the time. Once they are away from the dander, it gets more noticible when they are exposed again. One article I found talked about people who grow up on a farm and exposed to lots of poop have no allergies.
It does not sound to me that there is much of a genetic cause. Perhaps there is some genetic link to your suseptibility. But the expression of the allergies seems more to be due to your immune system needing to find things to attack to stay in shape. If it can't find real nasties to fight off, it will find something else to work on.
I was thinking the same thing. How many people refuse to fly anymore with the crap they make you do at the airport. I have heard (read) a few people here say they don't fly anymore. My brother also refuses to go on a trip if it involves getting on a plane. I myself refuse to use the scanners and have taken the pat-down even though I think that is stupid also.
Plus, it is only $25 one time fee to put Android app on the Market. I find that much easier to swallow than $99 per year. Selling $36 worth of an app over how ever many years it takes is easier than selling $142 worth every year. My Android app has only been out there for a few months, but the $25 is already covered. If the sales slow down I don't have to worry about paying $99 out of my pocket just for the chance that the sales might increase next year.
I'm hoping they extend this further and start doing trails through the forests preserves. Then I won't have to go out there when the mosquitoes are bad. I can sit at home and go for a nice walk in the woods. Might be good for geocaching without leaving your computer also.

The mall is not public. But the taxes that come in are. That is how they justify it.
That reminds me of that joke about the group of people that just tell jokes by number.

Tardigrades are by far the toughest animals on Earth
Would this make a growing crystal a life form. So making rock candy in your kitchen means you have created life!
