Why you copy AMD a lot lately, why not! copy the best thing of them all, HT! HT as in hyptertransport, not hyperthreading. Im curious to see the new 'xeons' compete with am2 opterons. While the new architecture is seeming much faster than AMD's offering at the moment. The FSB is still old and flawed. The AGTL+ max bandwith of the CD2 is maxed out at ~8gb/sec, where as HyperTransport maxes out at ~14gb/sec.
I don't like to see people getting laid off, especially when the company is still seeing billion dollar profits.
But... Start laying off all the people incharge of keeping Neburst around for as long as they did. They are single handedly resonsible for global warming!
its about context like like the other person said. Because when someone says this sentence, you picture weigh, way and whey in your head purely based on context. Becase the person doesn't say: "Which W-A-Y would you W-E-I-G-H the W-H-E-Y?" It's just which way would you way the way. or they could be saying which weigh would you weigh the weigh. No matter.
Considering some of the other comments about spelling and school, vs. other countries we are very behind on k-12 education, even in other countries with phoenetic spelling. So, thats a pointless point. If kids could learn to spell faster, that would increase time to learn other more important things. I think spelling doesn't hold much importantance. Context does.
Is it better for me to say: D O G spells dog. OR>>> Oligosaccharides and polysaccharides are composed of longer chains of monosaccccharide units bound together by glycosidic bondes. ? Are you more concerned with how I'm spelling or what the context is? Frankly, I don't want to worry about spelling, it's annoying. I just want to write and make a point.
"I'm sorry Mr./Mrs. Jones, but you are using WEP/WPA your wireless network is not that secure, you are at risk of being hacked."
Let's not forget how easy it is to hack WEP encryption.
Also, I don't like how the word "hacker" is being thrown around. You don't do any hacking to connect to an open wifi network. Windows will even do it automatically for you. So, therefore, Bill Gates is hacking wifi.
Nothing with hdtv is really finalized, like hdcp/hdmi and crap like that. Almost every now with an HDTV is SOL due to no hdcp/hdmi. The industry is really f~cking over the consumers this time. And they wont like it. Will they do anything about it? Unlikely.
When I come to slashdot, I learn. People write good posts and you have some smart cookies here. If I see one more nintendo fan boy article on digg.... The people on there are pretty pathetic, and lack any real knowledge. Or if they do, they certainly aren't posting it. Geek.com has the problem where there is no registration or anything, you just type a handle and post. I must give some credit though, there are some smart people on geek, but they are also days behind the news.
digg offers some good articles from time to time. But for much more in depth knowledge of whats going on, I'll be here on/.
Careless mistakes and security holes? What about MS taking 200+ days to patch a critical security hole? What about bugs/security holes due to bad management styles/lazy programming or a combination of the two?
Sure, bugs / security things will happen... but how many are too many? And when is an acceptable time frame to fix those, and fix those that pose major security risks?
they seem to be coming with excuse after excuse as to why the war wasn't "successful."
And, if they had better means of communications, they'd be relaying bad intel anyway.
A lot of this is to just do something "innovative" as they've gotten a lot of bad press lately. With all the billions they spend, it seems they sit on their ass a lot.

I got slashdotted! Yay!

I also claim that Slashdot people usually are smelly and eat their
boogers, and have an IQ slightly lower than my daughters pet hamster
(that's "hamster" without a "p", btw, for any slashdot posters out
there. Try to follow me, ok?).
Furthermore, I claim that anybody that hasn't noticed by now that I'm an
opinionated bastard, and that "impolite" is my middle name, is lacking a
few clues.
Finally, it's clear that I'm not only the smartest person around, I'm also
incredibly good-looking, and that my infallible charm is also second only
to my becoming modesty.
So there. Just to clarify.

Ok! Being that I have several genes in my body, which I own thank you very much. I give google full permission to index these for others to search. You see people in Brazil - I own the genes in my body, fully. Google is not "pirating" anything.
I don't really think it its about what we have thats secret or not. But the principle. Just like traffic lights: whats next? Cameras watching our streets aka London? Chicago has a bill in the works right now.
So, what do I have thats secret? Well, due to the nature of my work, I do have things that are secret. But, even for my non-secretive things, I don't want someone to be look at them. I know that my ideas arent that unique, and I'm not that special. But its the principle. I still deserve my privacy. Even if it's already gone, courtesy the NSA.
Your new playstation 3 add-on harddrive/toaster combo. The toaster features a custom version of ToasterLinux. But, thats not all. Your toaster will allow you to play GAMES from your toast cartridges.
I don't really think you get what you pay for here. Having to use Microsoft at work and Linux at home? Linux is free and, IMHO better(based on my experiences). So, in this case, you do pay to get shafted.
and I actually goto this buidling, but I have not yet tried it, as it was still under contruction about a week ago when I was there last. I always wondered, wtf will I do with that? The building only has 17 floors that can be accessed from the main elevator(my client is on the 17th floor). I could picture this being helpful with a place like the sears tower with way more floors. But, sure enough, wierd to find them on slashdot.
I like the fact that I can change boot arguements in grub, unlike lilo where you have to change the config file, and reinstall it. Im an intermediate linux user and from time to time I will make a mistake.:( Which means grubs flexibility is better for me.
Im getting tired of the GRUB vs LILO debate. Grub is simply the best.
I got in trouble at work last week for telling someone(employee) to download openoffice.org when office 2k3 wasn't working right. So, the next day, I got a call from the boss when I was out at a clients, and he was like "We are not a linux shop, we are not an openoffice shop, we are not an open source shop. Talk to you later" And I was thinking, oh shit.
And the next day, a client was there, and he just shouts out, hey martin, what do you think of Microsoft. And I shouted back "I love Microsoft."
Now, the guys here, they don't really like MS. Their products cause of a great deal of grief, AT the same time though, they keep us in business. They like linux, and think it has their place. But, they don't want to support it. Plus Im the resident "linux" guy. As soon as I got there they put me in charge of the dns server. Which has been the most reliable machine there, running redhat 7.3.
I don't know if a lot of people know this, but Bellevue is right next to Redmond. AKA home of the friendly giant.
I actually worked at Microsoft, but I quit really quickly due to the pain and suffering I endured there. Plus, you know how much shit I got when I would make a linux crack? I am a linux junkie and I am proud of it. Woohoo! Lets just say that I felt really akward there when I brought my laptop running linux.;)

Ok, this article was primarily based on concept/capabilities. Not a specific underdeveloped feature.
It isn't like we are talking about a nuclear powered car or anything like that. Something that is totally experimental and is totally unpredictable. Yes it is in beta, but, beta is pretty much done/bug testing/testing minor upgrades. Not like an alpha or pre-alpha release. But, than again, it is microsoft.
Does this mean people will get lazy about file names? What will happen to directories? I am sure they won't go away. But, MS is trying to make them transparent to the end user. Which was a goal of their WinFS. Im worried this meta data thing will get out of hand and then things will rely on it. I do not like the idea for searching for my data everytime I want to access it. Folders and filenames excite me because I can easily sort/find my stuff. I can quickly access it. If I need to search I have google. Like id3 tags...? I do not find myself using it. I do not need to see the title scrolling in winamp, because I have the file approriately named. But, thats just me.
