Natural selection is not random, but the mutations that provide evolutionary advantage/disadvantage are. That said, if I ask you to pick a number from 1 to infinity and you pick 14. I can't then say that you didn't pick 14 just because the odds are infinitely small.
This case is also different because the person put them on YouTube BEFORE they aired, so this is a bit more serious than just uploading the video. Non-Story.
There are a lot of people in this world who see every human life as a potential problem rather than a potential contributor to the greater good. It's really sad actually.
Of course, all of this assumes that intelligence is strictly genetic, which it isn't. That said, I know a certain guy in Germany in the 1930's who would certainly have subscribed to your newsletter.
The parent of my post made no claim whatsoever. I simply pointed out that solar is in no way a solution to the energy problem (at least not right now). This is 100% true. If solar were superior to current electrical generation methods, it would be in widespread use, but it isn't. Of course, I'm sure that people on/. are going to say that it's the energy companies and Bush preventing solar from being used and they will get modded +5 insightful.
Both are valid ideas. I didn't say that hydrogen storage problems were unsolvable, they use hydrogen safely in many industries. I just don't want to be an early adopter of home hydrogen storage and I'd prefer if my neighbors weren't either.
Now that is how you should conduct yourself in a debate. Well, except for the part where you mostly agreed with me. I did offer further explanation of my objection to Hydrogen in a post below here. But basically the point is that hydrogen is a very small molecule compared to propane or natural gas and therfore will leak much more easily.
Ordinarily I would consider responding to my own post to be in poor taste, but seriously, the mods for my post and the parent of my post are so ridiculous, I just had to. I mean a guy calls me an oil company schill and a dumbass with no counter argument to my original point and gets modded insightful. I issue a well reasoned and restrained response to him and get modded troll. The last line of my post was obviously a bit of a troll, but nowhere near as bad as the "insightful" post it was in response to.
Hydrogen is a much smaller molecule than methane or propane and therefore it is more difficult to contain (i.e. much more likely to leak). In fact, welded joints used for natural gas/propane systems will not contain hydrogen. On top of that, it is explosive over a wider range of concentrations than any of the chemicals you mentioned. A very large leak of propane on natural gas can actually saturate the environment and become less explosive. I'll grant you that if something went wrong at the nuclear power plant, that might be more dangerous, but those plants are pretty reliable these days. One other point is that natural gas is perfumed so that you can smell it during a leak. I don't know if this is possible with hydrogen, again because of the small size of the molecule. It seems to me it would be possible for the hydrogen to leak without the perfume molecule getting through at the same time.
Angry little guy/gal aren't you. "Bogus astroturfing" implies that what I said wasn't true, but then you didn't provide any evidence that it wasn't. The manufacture and eventual disposal of solar panels does produce pollution. This is a fact. Also, a tank full of hydrogen in your house is extremely dangerous. This is also a fact. I'm all for advancement and innovation. This isn't it. So yes, I do feel that it's too expensive, too destructive and impractical. In my "dumbass" mindset, being too expensive, too destructive and impractical are problems that need to be overcome before something like this is widely adopted.
As a side note, I want to take a look at how I responded to you. Notice I didn't accuse you of anything or call you any names. This is how adults have a debate. That said, I look forward to your completely emotional, irrational and unreasoned response.
I'm doubting it based on the two other "real" problems. 1. The overall environmental impact of solar cells is still worse than the equivalent traditional electrical generation would be. 2. Amateur hydrogen storage in my neighborhood, let alone in my house, no thanks.
p2p for music is NOT all that difficult. Not to mention that with iTunes it is extremely easy to get your music reauthorized. Further not to mention, you don't need to reauthorize your music for a new ipod, only a new pc.
What in the world would make you think you can't be sued? If a court finds in favor of the RIAA vs. AllOfMP3, then the RIAA is going to say that you must delete all of your music from them or face being sued. Granted, it might be difficult to get allOfMP3s customer records. This is exactly why I mentioned the questinable legality. At least if I get sued over something I downloaded from p2p, I didn't pay for the "privelege".
What I never understood is why anybody would use this service. I mean you can find high quality songs in multiple formats and of questionable legality for free on p2p. So along comes AllOfMP3 and offers me high quality songs in multiple formats and of questionable legality, but they want me to pay. At least on a p2p network, you didn't initially pay for songs that the RIAA might sue you for anyway.
If Roblimo is a good journalist, then his personal opinions shouldn't enter into his review of the tour
Well, you could have... wait for it... RTFA and see that clearly his personal opinions did enter into his review and saved yourself the time it took you to type that first sentence.
"oft-ignored" - I do not think that means what you thnk it means. Every time someone mentions using flash in place of a hard drive, nearly 80% (totally made up number) of the comments are about the rewrite limits of flash memory. I mean there are at least 10 comments below yours that mention it already.
Similar thing happened to me, a guy was tailgating me in a snowstorm because he had an all wheel drive Subaru. I guess he's one of those geniuses who thinks that 4WD nullifies the laws of physics. Finally, he illegally passed me and about 3 other cars in front of me. About a mile up the road there was the Subaru at the bottom of a huge ditch on the side of the road. I pulled over and asked him if he was OK and if he needed a cell phone. He was fine and had a phone with him. So I told him that this was what you get when you drive like a dumbass.
I appreciate your well thought out reply, but I think you missed the main point of my post. Most people in the U.S. (and yes including myself) are not willing to suddenly give up driving, especially because the government suddenly raised the taxes. And it will seriously impact the economy. Taxes are never, repeat NEVER good for the economy. Not to mention that I, like millions of other people in the country drive a good distance to work where there is no public transportation. So if you suddenly raise the price of gas, suddenly millions of people are forced to relocate causing massive problems in the housing market. There is absolutely NO WAY that it will not cause anything less than a disaster for the economy. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but we have built our economy, infrastructure and lives around cars. If you can get by without using a car, great. Most of us don't want to.
When politicians aren't pandering to corporate lobbyists and special interest groups, they're busy worrying about getting reelected rather than doing what needs to be done (as un-fun as it might be). What would be nice would be to have a crop of politicians that put reelection as a lower priority than doing actual legislative work.
So... let me get this straight. You would be happy with politicians who lied (more than usual) to get elected and then enacted a bunch of legislation that the American people are against. No thanks. "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ring a bell?

Mmmmmm... dog breads.
This creature doesn't fly, it glides. The forward motion comes from falling from the tree.

Quite possibly the most intelligent post ever by AC. Please look and mod up... or copy, paste and take credit for the parent post.

I figured as much, I'm just saying that it was an unecessary use of the internet's valuable space and time.

Sounds like they really need to tighten up their email service.
