It's not that they don't care. It's that if they do anything more than talk about the problem, they'll be punished severely, and even talking about it can get dangerous if the words are effective enough.
I think with refactoring, it would be reasonable to expect a new operating system to use the same or less resources than its predecessor if you're doing the same thing you did with your old operating system. It should only require more resources if it's doing more. If I upgraded my operating system, I'd be doing exactly the same things I'm doing right now, which are the same things I did with Windows 98. Somehow it takes more ram to do it all though.
And now Google gets the page views instead of the people who actually published the document. I mentioned that because the number of page views they get might matter to them. On the other hand, I had no intention of clicking on that PDF file; but I actually looked at the article since there was an HTML version.
What about my data? If I agree to a "pay as you go" software model, will you allow me to create documents, data, etc., in an open format guaranteeing me free access at anytime I decide not to continue the subscription?
I guess not, but think of all the fun you'll have squirting your spreadsheets to girls who appreciate math. I'll be looking for your summations.
Maybe one of the measures of how good open source is, is whether people would have paid for it if they had to. Actually getting people to spend money on it is an indication of that.
I think any search algorithm is going to be as un-gameable as DRM is uncrackable. The goal would be to convince the big corporations that the algorithm is un-gameable long enough to collect the money.
I'd bet somebody told Gracenote the same thing at one point. They're still around though, so maybe leeching off of people's work and selling it for a profit is the way to go. As long as they understand somebody could do the same to them.
Maybe, but you don't have to show it to your site visitors in order to index it. I can see from my weblogs that people view my webpages from the google cache instead of going to the website. So they're looking at my webpages but Google gets the page views. It doesn't hurt me as much because I don't have a commercial site, but for somebody who was selling content, Google would be stealing their content and the money they would have gotten from people who really want to see it.
If this is serious then I suspect they would only actually bomb a place they were looking for an excuse to bomb anyway. Maybe an oil-rich nation. If it happens in this country, I suspect they'd fight it by enacting CAN-SPAM 2, which will eliminate botnets by forcing all American citizens to surrender DNA samples.
Black people have to deal with stereotypes, and being treated like they're inept and incapable of succeeding by nature. Having a Black role model is good because it provides a counter-example to this.
It can also get the crap beat out of you by a cop, and cause assholes to deny all of your hard work and say everything you've got is from Affirmative Action.
Well you see, your computer is not a series of tubes. It's more like a truck that you can dump things on. Your operating system is the driver, and the rest of your software are the people yelling at the driver to turn this way and that. Most of what you've dumped into your truck is probably against the law but you should be fine as long as you don't dump any of it into anybody else's truck.

I think it might have something to do with giant earthworms.
And if that is the case, that proof will be buried somewhere with a dinosaur fossil.
My guess is Linux users are the ones most likely to use OpenOffice.
If that's the case then it makes a lot of sense to get into the business of selling things to them.
And a few of them turned into Ninja Turtles.
Well I think we need to upgrade to fiber-optics and see if we can improve our response time.

I call mine "husband".
Maybe they could add a blazing sword?

That was not obligatory.
The part they left out is you have to make sure the person is wet before heating, or you might damage your microwave.
Well they do humorously reference Wikipedia and Slashdot so I guess it's okay.

I'm going to find some way to use that "Flame Squirrel" line in everyday conversation, and just have loads of fun.

I guess everybody should switch to Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox on Fedora Core 6 Brand of GNU/Linux, or perhaps Edgy Eft Brand.
