  1. Re:Back in 1994... on MS Responds To Vista's Network / Audio Problems · · Score: 1

Oh, I agree, but there's no sense in comparing it to any other hardware or specific OSes or anything. The point is, the same PC, with almost ANY other OS, Windows, Linux, BSD, whatever, does play fine. That's why I think that whoever says "my old pc is fine", or "linux is fine" are redundant. We all know this, we've been playing stuff through the network ever since last.fm was created.

Don't take this as an attack, but your comment is rather sensationalist. What difference does it make that your 13 year old PC plays mp3s over the network? It's not like MS is 13 years behind, it's a BUG. Hell, XP is fine, you don't see me saying "Watch out, 2007 MS, 2004 MS has you beaten!".

  6. Someone please explain this to me. on Top 25 Hottest Open-Source Projects at Microsoft Codeplex · · Score: 1

I have been curious about this. Isn't there a standardized Python definition? I mean, sure, cPython is the de facto standard, but isn't there a standard an interpreter can adhere to and claim to be 100% Python compatible? IIRC, Guido says that noone should rely on interpreter hacks, so that shouldn't be a problem. Why are IronPython, PyPy, Jython etc trying to be compatible with cPython?

Ah, but "by default" Konqueror, Firefox and Safari don't have mail clients, mouse gestures, ad blockers, etc etc. Those take ages to install compared to "right click->remove".

Your calling Opera cluttered makes me doubt you've ever used it. Mine has a menubar, tab bar and address bar, none of which has any buttons on it. You don't even need the menu, with the sidebar and gestures. So, try using something before trolling.

I'm not trolling, I seriously want to know. I installed it but then went back to XP because something wasn't compatible, so, what's wrong with Vista? Everyone here says it sucks and it's the most horrible thing ever, but I haven't seen anyone say what they don't like about it. Could someone (or preferably a few people) enlighten me?

Tucows still exists? Man, I'm glad we moved past the shareware age and on to the open source age. Nowadays I use almost no shareware programs, everything else (a few hundreds) are open source. I will admit, though, that it had a certain magic about it, but maybe it's just the fact that I was young and remember it fondly.

At least with OpenID anyone can use their own server, so a phisher wouldn't know what to make the phishing page look like. They could spoof a few known providers, but the one I use (myopenid.com) has an option to not let you log in from a different site. It gives you a page telling you to manually open a new window and log into that and then click the link to continue. That takes care of phishing...

Prices rise with demand because usually supply is limited. Last time I checked, we can create bits from thin air, so we have an infinite amount of copies we can sell. So there's really no reason for prices to rise with demand. If anything, they should drop because you need a price ten times lower for a song ten times as popular to earn what you used to.

I'm tired of whiny (star) musicians being all like "Wah, the internets ate my moniez". If they really loved music, they'd make it even if they had to pay for it, like most of us who like to program/mess with computers and do it even if it costs us money (open source/new gadgets/etc). This just shows me that they're in it for the cash and have no regard for the music they make.
