If I remember correctly, things are described as one orbiting the other when that shared centre of mass is inside the surface of one of the bodies.
Having looked this up previously, I can tell you the term you're looking for is barycenter and the barycenter of the sun/Jupiter system is slightly outside the sun. Google search is left as an exercise for the reader.
The original humans reached Australia when the sea levels were significantly lower, and while you're right that you couldn't just walk it, there may have only been a single crossing of ~90km between southeast asia and the Australia-ish landmass. Wiki
Quick toppost poll; I see a lot of comments here about people getting beaten up in school. Most posters seem to be talking about America. I'm from New Zealand and while there is of course bullying/harassment I wasn't aware of physical violence against anyone to a level of obvious injury or robbery.
Is physical violence actually common in American schools? How about other countries?
Sorry to nitpick, but the primary requirement for a PhD is to contribute something original and of value to your field, whereas lower degrees such as a Master's only require you to demonstrate a high level of skill. I like to remember that when I come across somebody with a Doctorate; taken apart from their other achievements it's not much more or less than a certificate saying that they did something original and useful at least once in their lives.
That's either damn cool or practically irrelevant depending on the situation.
I'm just guessing here, but your problem might not be low fat content in the pork. Factory farmed animals tend to be pumped full of growth hormones which will make them mature fast and put on weight at the expense of tasting like... anything, really. I don't know how it works in America, but if you have farmers markets or some other access to a more rustic style of pig you might get a better meal and support your local food producers too.
Searing your steak doesn't actually 'seal' anything in, it just caramelises the outside.Random Google cite. It does still make your steak tastier just like everyone believes, so who cares about the details?
Re: bacteria, not too much of a problem with beef. Chicken and pork tend to be covered in salmonella which is bad news if you don't cook it properly, but beef bacteria are relatively benign and aging beef (see: growing bacteria) is a common way to develop its flavour. I don't know if it's common practice in the USA though, it sounds like something the FDA would have strong words about.
From talking to chefs and chemists, beef is just getting better as it goes grey and slightly smelly but once it goes green or shiny you're looking at trouble. The bacteria start to break down the proteins in the meat the same way a marinade does. Yes, I deliberately keep steak until after its 'use by' date; no, I've never got food poisoning from it; no, I'm not brave enough to serve it to guests;)

Everyone feels like that, it's a guy thing. Quick anecdote: I knew a bouncer who hated having to throw out women - of course he was much stronger than them, but if he got too obviously physical every drunk guy in the place would pile on to him.
This was in the news recently, probably what a lot of people are vaguely thinking of. I remember reading a few different reports over a couple of days, and the story changed a lot with who was spinning it.
The Guardian report above seems to be on the he-was-just-defending-his-family angle; the other side I remember is that the defender and one of his mates chased down a fleeing burglar, beat him with a cricket bat, broke the bat from beating him too much, beat him some more after he was unconscious and left the burglar with permanent serious brain damage.
The court case wasn't so much over a man defending his family as a man getting some of his mates and with a degree of premeditation beating the living shit out of somebody who was incapable of defending themselves. It was a matter of "yeah, defending your family... but whoa, seriously?" Logically there must be a line between defending your family and going unacceptably psycho; this case was on the line and they still let him off with a suspended sentence rather than actually locking him up.
you are genetically diverse enough from your first cousin that there are no genetic problems, other than sharing undesirable, recessive, genetic diseases.
What kind of genetic problems would anyone have other than 'sharing undesirable, recessive, genetic diseases'? I thought that was what first cousins were distant enough to make a negligible concern.
Not that I consider myself a Popperian, but what kind of proof wouldn't be technically a disproof of the predictive power of all plausible competing theories? Sure, generally people work by the measure of 'good enough', but that's usually showing that competing theories are not predictive.
Evolution is the process of change in a population group. Individual mutations can be beneficial, harmful or neutral. Whichever ones stick in the gene pool are part of evolution - be they good, neutral or crappy.
To be a bit more specific, you need some random mutation, reproduction with genetic crossover and a fitness function which is your physical necessitation. Even without an environmental pressure you'll still get genetic drift from mutations which aren't being selected for or against.
It's just that evolution is, specifically and by definition, the change of a population group over generations. The phenotype of an individual can change all you like but we'd call that a changing phenotype not evolution because evolution talks about population groups.
Personally, I blame X-Men. And Heroes. Way to go guys, basing the premise of your entire franchise on a misunderstanding of pop science.
The other option would be for the central government to... accept a much smaller role in the economy.
It's not at all clear that allowing an abusively free market would reduce national debt. Removing regulation would allow some sectors to increase their wealth at the expense of others, but it's not clear that the profit would increase overall or in any way which was useful for decreasing the national debt.

They're not used as police boxes any more, but a fair few of them are used for coffee stands, which is what you can see on google images.

To be fair, originally The Neverending Story was neverending, but they still haven't heard back from the focus groups and the investors got impatient.
