  1. Great idea, but what about minutes? on Mobile Fuel Cells Soon? · · Score: -1, Offtopic

My main issue with cell phones is having a cap on minutes. And don't dare go over otherwise it'll cost you dearly. I'll be more impressed with cell phones when it's just a constant monthly fee for unlimited usage. All this nights and weekend crap is a scam. Imagine if your internet usage was charged this way... you couldn't afford to read all the "valuable" comments in Slashdot ;)

  2. No it's not. on Should Linux Have a Binary Kernel Driver Layer? · · Score: 0

I don't think a Binary Driver layer should be introduced. Hardware manufacturers lose interest in products as soon as they're released. So to have the specs open and allow the community to maintain the driver as long as there's a community for it simply makes sense. It's in the consumers' best interest.

So I have to pay for cable and/or satellite, then I have to pay more for a show that just aired?!?! Plus I don't get a copy of it?!?! I'm sticking with my SageTV PVR and a 250GB drive. I can record any show I want and keep it forever at no additional cost! I hope this fails miserably.

  6. Commercials as we know them are doomed on Google DVRs and TV Advertising · · Score: 0
I believe Google's ability to advertise inconspicuously will dominate the marketplace in the years to come. The days of annoying commercials for minutes at a time are numbered. People won't stand for them as is evident by the popularity of DVRs. I started using a homemade one 3 years ago and haven't looked back. People would say something about a commercial they saw and I honestly can say I haven't seen one in a loooooong time :)

What Google will hopefully bring to the television is what they brough to the web... text ads or something else unobtrusive they people don't mind seeing. They could even be shown during a show in the lower right corner like most stations display their stupid logo.

Obviously, I'm no Einstein otherwise I would be working for Google, but there has to be a successor to the half-century old commercial. It's annoying, expensive, and going the way of the dinosaur.
