I'll admit I don't know what the guy is talking about with the port security post
The port security bill banned the funding of off-shore, online gambling. Since this could be considered gambling, if it's not already covered under that bill, it is likely to be amended to include it if it gets enough attention.
Oh yeah, now I remember why you're the only person I've ever added to my foes list!
Ever think that maybe, just maybe, that the term FUD really does apply in situations you don't agree with? I've supported companies I don't even like many times simply because so many others are getting the facts wrong. I'm not a big fan of blind ignorance, and I'd rather put as many of the facts out there as I can. I've probably even quoted a few press releases in doing so. Helluva theory though, except I can't really see why a corporation would bother paying people to feed the/. trolls.
For testing bandwidth I use Netperf. It's free, extremely customizable in the type of data sent (TCP/UDP streams, packet size, IPv4/IPv6, etc), and quite accurate. The program has no trouble generating enough traffic for a 1Gb link, and it's worked well over 10Gb links too. There's no GUI to it, but setting up a script to start it and report the results is pretty trivial.
I pity you, since your ego is so fragile that you consider a correction an insult.
Personally, I want to know when I am wrong, so that I can get it right next time.
And I pity you, since you can't accept when you're wrong, even when several people tell you you are. I'm sure you know that you're actually wrong in this situation, but it seems that you can own up to it and say "ok, maybe it came off a bit insulting."
If you really just to wanted to correct them, you would simply say "8 Gb = 1 GB". When I'm in a peer review correcting someone's design, I don't say "rofl, we've verified to IEC-68-2-3 Ca BEFORE!~! Maybe you meant to say we need to verify to MIL-STD-810F?! Don't' worry, you're only ten years late!" I would usually say "Replace IEC-68-2-3 ca with MIL-STD-810F." Simple, eh?
But instructing the person who made the mistake is [informative], and I am addressing them directly in my comment. I don't think the comment should have been moderated at all, positive or negative.
At least you partly agree with me that the comment had no worth whatsoever. Doesn't sound like you've completely convinced yourself one way or the other though.
Stupid people can't detect sarcasm when they read a book, either.
And it's good to know you'll be here to let people know when they've got it wrong! You should teach third grade, I hear children excel when they're ridiculed.
Posting just to spell check someone is generally considered insulting the person you're correcting. So yes, flamebait is correct. Pointing out the difference between GB and Gb on a tech site is like explaining the difference between iodized salt and kosher salt to a chef, so it is not informative whatsoever. There is nothing amusing about the post, just arrogance. Unless of course you were being sarcastic. In that case, I would like to help prove my point with the below quote:
You're hoping that other moderators will be as undiscerning as yourself?
See how well sarcastic tones work over teh intarweb? (Feel free to submit spelling corrections!)
I can deal with the latency...I just can't wait to see the look on my friends faces when a station wagon pulls up to my apartment to deliver 1000 DVDs!
I could be wrong, but I don't think the IT department has ever remote desktoped into my laptop to run managed updates. I believe the GP is referring to managed updates and software pushes, something like SMS.
You're right, it shouldn't be modified to 'troll'. It should be flamebait, as per the FAQ. Your second post should be the one modified as "troll". You're right, the mods really need to read up the rules before modding you down. Trust me when I say that in the future, I will make sure to mod you down using the correct moderation. Hopefully, using the link to the FAQ in this post as guidance, other moderators will mod you down appropriately as well.
Several years ago in The Far Side. Several gnus packed into a newspaper stand, with the shop keeper telling a customer something to the effect of "Well, I've got good gnus, and I've got bad gnus".
Yes, but how do you know that the iPhone will allow unsigned applications to be installed? I had to CID unlock the phone I've got now (Cingular 8525) to have full control over what I can/cannot install on it. So a certain application could work on my phone, but that doesn't mean I would be able to install it. Apple/ATT could do the same with this phone.
Not trying to troll here, but how could they not get at least 3G(UMTS) into this phone? The PDA phone I have was released 9 months ago and they managed to get HSDPA into it. I would bet that the battery life in this phone isn't that great. That would explain why they stuck with only EDGE.
MS doesn't really have that large of a market share in the mobile phone market...Symbian has a much much larger install base. If I remember correctly WM only has ~5-10% market share, whereas Symbian has 60-70%. It seems to me that it would make more sense for MS to get push mail working on BlackBerry devices (which it may, I have no idea).
I'm betting they were talking about Push Mail for windows mobile. I think that's just for getting automatic emails from an exchange server, not the blackberry service itself.
I distinctly recall there being a shortage of copies at release, at least in the US. It was common practice for my group of friends, and for the people in my major, to buy a copy if you found one, even if you didn't need it. It took several weeks for everyone who wanted a copy to get one.
I wasn't necessarily agreeing with the GP, that's just how I interpreted it. Personally I don't think it's likely to happen for the reasons you describe. Especially since it seems that there's enough people familiar with programming that are playing the game that the source would get looked after.
I took it more to mean that since you can see the server code, you could find flaws in the way the server handles the information, and then create a hack to exploit that on the live servers.

Wouldn't businesses that deal with graphics be using their Quadro line? Unless you mean the game developers themselves...

I dunno, I think your sig is perfectly applicable to your FP

0.1 Gbit/sec is still a whole lot faster than my Comcast connection...where can I sign up for the station wagon?

PS. They are Blu-Ray disks not Blue-Ray disks.
Change preferences --> without animated character --> change preferences --> change files and folders search behavior --> advanced --> ok
saw a cartoon about a gnu

However, since there are no Nintendo or Sony games on the PC
My level 75 Rogue would like to have a chat with you. Preferably in a dark alley.

Each efficiency graph shows "KB Saved /s" on the x-axis. Pretty straight forward...KB saved (not KiB) divided by time to compress.
