  1. Re:Queue the outraged moderates.. on In the UK, Possession of the Anarchist's Cookbook Is Terrorism · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think we'd better get used to terrorism because I suspect we're going to see more and more of it. IMHO we are now seeing more terrorism than ever before, from Wiktionary:
    1. The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create an emotional response from the victim in the furtherance of a political or social agenda.
    2. Violence against civilians to achieve military or political objectives.
    3. A psychological strategy of war for gaining political or religious ends by deliberately creating a climate of fear among the population of a state.
I draw your attention to (3). TBH, I can barely remember the time or place to hit Europe, but I can clearly see the response every day. Extra police at every turn, increasing armed (dunno what you guys in the States think of this, but it freaks me out). When I was a kid, there was a lot of talk about the IRA, and I remember town centers being closed because of bomb scares, but the IRA did not dominate national policy the way "Al Qaeda" does now. Shame really, I used to read /. thinking "those crazy yanks, glad I'm not stuck in your country", now I'm not so sure.

Ok, so since when is a copy of your passport (with dated stamps of countries you entered) NOT conclusive you traveled there at that time? Next. Well if the Road to Guantanamo is anything to go by, being on police bail (and reporting daily) isn't a reason you can't be in another country. I guess the same logic applies here.

Haven't got an XP box to test this on, but what if you redirected the user to the URI? (like with header(Refresh 2; URL=mailto:%00%00../../blah blah blah);)

Aside from girls (and who said the OP was a guy?), especially if they were doing a full time job, college/uni is ALL about the social aspects. Maybe I'm misguided (this is /.) but 90% of what I learned at college was far more along the lines of "How to talk confidently to people (girls/guys/the weird one from the army)" than "How to make computers do stuff".
I found when you get out of education you have far less time to socialize and another year when your covering material you have been over before lets you spend more time with the human skills you learn there.

While anti-social behaviour is a bit ambiguous in terminology I got the impression from the news last night, that the cameras were to stop the people who feel it's the traffic warden's fault they're parked on double yellow lines. Here in England, a huge number of people have a huge problem with parking laws and seem to believe that abuse and violence will get there ticket canceled. If I was a warden, I'd want the evendance that some chav really DID spend 20 mins shouting death threats at me. As a side note: I met a doorman with a camera on his head before, and I hope they made the camera strong. As soon as there was a fight the first thing to be hit was the camera (obviously the camera isn't sending footage live to a CCTV server, duh!)

A few points about these cameras all over the place. Having been on both sides of the police, both asking for help when people cause me trouble and getting my room searched when the landlord got busted, i found that the current culture leans very much towards getting caught in the act. All the watchers are totally focussed on the easy arrest, the fatal combination of arrest targets and crazy paper work cause this shit. I worrys me greatly that i live in a country where the police can tell who i associate with and where i went drinking, but don't have the money to do anything about petty crimes (like beating and robbing the elderly). I would only get a landline for DSL service, and probably wouln't even connect a phone to it now, because I never answer it - only telemarketers phone the landline.
