    The parent poster's info is plenty useful. Using his/her distro of choice, the poster was simply illustrating how another media player could be just as sufficient. Looking at the long list given of supported options, I'm certainly impressed that Xine could do the job just fine, at least as well as Mplayer.

    IIRC, it stands for "In Internet Relay Chat". It's what old timers tell these new GAIM/AIM/MSN/ICQ lusers about the good old days:

    Avatars? Hell, son! IIRC, we used ANSI color codes to color our nicknames! Those were are avatars! Not that it mattered much anyways, when you were logging on with a WYSE dumb terminal-- your "avatar" was green no matter what!

    I can completely sympathize with this. How much dumber can you get without being patronizing? I had a customer tell me, "I can't understand this technobabble you're spewing", when I asked them, "What does it say on your screen?"

    If I had said, "What letters are there on that TV-looking dooley your typewriter-board is in front of?", they would have been insulted. I'm sorry, but if you can't answer the question "What does it say on your screen?", you don't need to be using a computer.

    the technocenti have been doing this for their home servers for a long, long time, let's bring it into the corporate world.

    I don't particularly like this mindset. No offense to the parent poster, but I don't agree that just because some tech-savvy home user can successfully get something going it means that it should be used in a production environment. I'm probably just as bad a "ricer" as your next individual, but that doesn't mean I'd consider doing a Stage 1 Gentoo install for all of my datacenter servers...

    Check that second link, there. The reason why Tuvalu started selling the .tv domain name was because they know that the island isn't going to last incredibly long, and that they could get a good bit of money out of a domain name that could be really catchy.

    Reports are saying that Tiger will run faster than Panther on the same hardware.

    BALDERDASH! Everyone knows that Jaguars run faster than Panthers, and Panthers can run faster than Tigers!

    My thoughts would have been they'd start with the slowest cat, and move onto the fastest cat with later releases: Tabby, Ocelot, Lion, Tiger, Jaguar, Panther, Cheeta, etc... But what would happen once they got to the fastest cat? Move to birds or lizards? I'd personally hold out to see a Mac OS X : Komodo, or OS X: Jesus Lizard . :D

    Good idea, but you wouldn't get anything for that "orginal" PS2. At least, not as much as I got for my "MY MOM FREAKED AT THIS ORGINAL PS2 NOT XBOX GAMCUBE L@@@K". If you can scoop up somee of those, then you've got yourself a money-making plan.

    When I was in college, we paid technology access fees to use their services. Even in the dorms, it didn't matter what we did, so long as we didn't degrade service.

    It's an Internet connection you're paying for. IMNSHO, you should be able to do whatever you want to do with it.
