The sad thing is that the only real news story on Slashdot today is a better joke than the AFJs.
This has been on the apple site for months now, and I thought it was a joke when I first saw it.
I tried for 5 years to come up with a clever sig...only to realize that I am not clever.

My girlfriend's mom sent her some to go with the iPod I got her for christmas.
She loves them and has a blueberry and orange sock. Her mom kept the third one in the set.
A great accessory to keep the chrome case from getting all scratched-up in her purse.
This is for serious? I do believe this will go down as one of the greatest incidents of branding going a bit too far.
Haven't they been selling these for a while? Maybe not Apple themselves, but I'm sure I saw something like this last time I was in the Apple store in NYC.
Regardless, why is this on the front page? Do we really care about Apple so much we need to give free advertising to every accessory they launch? What's next - "Apple launch new white AA battery"?

These were in my local Apple store several weeks ago. Nothing new here. And why would anyone really care? If Apple makes a new USB cable accessory, nobody creams their shorts on blogs. Keep the brand lust to the actual hardware?

But seriously, I think the real April Fool's Joke is on Slashdot for posting this old news. Apple has been selling these socks for a while now.
Perhaps this year's /. April Fools Joke is that we were supposed to figure out which article WASN't fake. In that case, this is (unfortunately) it.
Simple take the hoodie (only $29.95) off your iPod - sadly, mostly available in Japan and some select stores in NYC and San Francisco - and it works quite well as a girl's sock.
Of course, you need two to do this, so buying the iSock is a better bargain, and a bit warmer.

I wish apple officially announced something good today. Two button mouse, Tiger, Tiger Woods, iHome, iPod AV. But all we get are socks that were released a long time ago.

I guess Slashdot got dunced on this one. These are a real accessory to protect the iPod, not an April Fools joke.

Although good enough to be an april fools day joke these babys have been sold by apple ever since the last christmas rush where it was said that the iPod was the "Must Have" Gift. The socks are supposed to imitate christmas stocking (pretty obvious). I remember seeing these things sold at my local apple store during the holidays.

These have been on sale for a long time, but I have to say that they are, surprisingly, the BEST case I've ever used on an iPod to date (currently used on a photo 30). Plus, they look very cute (if objects can be), though I'm sure that prolly won't matter to most.
The iPod socks are pretty controversial in the fashion circles my ex hangs around in. Sock isn't really the right term for them, more like the coordination one expects of gloves and hats. The fact that one is now expected to decorate their iPod in a style that coordinates with their clothing makes people who fail to do this either ignorant of the iPod accessories available (very unhip) or a person who has the fashion sense of a street vagrant (that's me!). These are pretty significant items, but probably not for the typical, heterosexual slashdot crowd.

This news is over ONE YEAR OLD! Why in the hell is this being posted today?
I saw these long ago, as did most commenters, but rather than just dismissing them they gave me an idea. I'm sick of seeing carrying cases that are no less than $30 in most instances so seeing these iPod socks made me think; I could just sew a strip of cloth over itself and leave one end open and poof! A couple bucks and a quick lapse of manly pride while I use a sewing machine, and I've got a safe way to carry my iPod. w00t!

As noted in several replies, the Ipod socks have been out now for several months now. What the post should have noted and IS new as of today, is that Apple is now offering these socks in scented versions. Look for these at your local Apple store with the label "Ipod sweat socks".
Don't worry, I'll be posting at +2 again in a week. I've done it before. You know how gullible Slashbots are.

I own a set of iPod socks and I totally love them. I nominate this story as the worst Slashdot story ever! Not only because it's extremely-old news, but because it seems it was posted as though it was supposed to be a joke, even though it isn't.

Unfortunately, it seems like Apple tends to go for this market segment a lot. I'm far from an Apple basher as I'm typing this message on one, but c'mon Apple. You can do better than selling this grossly overpriced crap.
