I posted to the referred newsgroup a few times, and got nothing but venom from the locals.
That's all you'll ever get there, and that's why SPEWS makes that their only means of contact. They want you to get flamed to death as further punishment.
American laws are based on the same religious principles that Israli laws are (e.g. the 10 commandments), but that hardly qualifies the US as a Theocracy. Additionally, there is no religious leader in Judaism other than a rabbi, which means teacher, not leader. To claim that Israel is a Theocracy just because its leaders are Jewish is taking it a bit too far. That is, unless I'm behind in my news, and Judaism has elected a Pope...
There's a chance that the article could be printed, at which point the author (and the person who printed it) would have to be concerned about the sanctity of the page. Using "G-d" can be seen as analogous to using "Hashem" (the Name), but without the confusion to non-Hebrew speakers.
The problem here is that, because of GPL, my right to redistribute is guaranteed. If I buy a copy of Red Hat Linux, I am perfectly within my rights to place it up for download, and burn a million copies and hand them out at parties. The only restriction is that Red Hat won't support those copies (which is reasonable). GPL has guaranteed me the right to redistribute that code. However, because of per-seat licensing, if I were to have some kind of brain tumor which caused me to actually purchase a copy of UL, I would NOT be allowed to hand out copies at parties. This restricts my right to redistribute GPL'd code, which is a violation of the GPL license (they're obviously getting around the violation part by only per-seat-licensing some small part, like the installer, as has been speculated in other posts).
RMS is trying to encourage developers to use GPL for the purpose of preventing abuses like UL's.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SELLING OR NOT SELLING IT HAS ONLY TO DO WITH (RE)DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS
Now, I agree that this is destined to fail, but it is very disheartening that 4 major distributons have come together under this lunacy.
Color me a very happy Red Hat customer, and this is only one of the reasons why.
abreaction
n : (psychoanalysis) purging of emotional tensions [syn: catharsis, katharsis]
The idea here is that. by expressing one's tensions and stresses in a game, one abates the need to go out and "express" them in the real world. I'm of the opinion that games don't make people violent, but rather that (to use a tired cliche) "disgruntled postal workers" could have benefitted from a copy of Quake.
Preposition \Prep`o*si"tion\, n. [L. praepositio, fr. praeponere
to place before; prae before + ponere to put, place: cf. F.
pr['e]position. See Position, and cf. Provost.]
1. (Gram.) A word employed to connect a noun or a pronoun, in
an adjectival or adverbial sense, with some other word; a
particle used with a noun or pronoun (in English always in
the objective case) to make a phrase limiting some other
word; -- so called because usually placed before the word
with which it is phrased; as, a bridge of iron; he comes
from town; it is good for food; he escaped by running.
Reasons one shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition: 1) The word "preposition" means to place before [a word]. With nothing following it, a preposition isn't being used properly. 2) Prepositions begin prepositional phrases. Without an object, the prepositional phrase is not a phrase, and is unclear.
As far as English being like Latin is concerned, some 60% of spoken English (significantly lower in written English) is Latin (the remainder being primarly Germanic, if I remember correctly), so there's good reason for the efforts of those misguided scholars.
It does NOT make perfect sense for someone to say, for example, "We don't live here, we're from." The lack of an object following the preposition 'from' makes it nonsensically unclear.
There is no prima facie evidence that the material in question was ever in the posession of the accused; move that the charges be dismissed, your honor.
That said, I agree that it's not really the government's job to deal with religions. But it is the government's job to deal with criminals.
Yes, but the US Gov't pulled the "religion" status (as far as tax exemption is concerned) from CoS c. 1965 (+/- 4 years). Thus, since they're a commercial entity in the eyes of the state, they should be subjected to Federal scrutiny.
I would suspect that PS/2 is being labeled as legacy because of what USB was supposed to be... namely, Universal. It takes manufacturers to make moves like this one for legacy devices to go away. c.f. ISA, AT, etc.
I signed up for and enjoyed this service for quite awhile. That is, until the 9-11 events. Since then, mail service has been poor at best. I have enough to worry about with the USPS delivering my CCard statements and payments on time, without wondering why I'm spending $20/mo for, at most, 3 DVD rentals. In fact, one DVD was lost, and now I've got to pay for a disc that may have gone home with a postal worker, or worse, been tossed because of some terrorism scare. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea... I just don't think that the USPS can be relied upon for timely deliveries. (sure, it ultimately gets there, but by then you're only averaging 3 or 4 movies a month).
How about your ssn? 123.45.6789 oh, wait, they're running out of these and can't wait to recycle the ones from persons deceased. Well, maybe the SSA will re-do those, too, and cause widespread confusion 8-)
Not sure how you don't understand?
Here's an easy analogy:
When was the last time an author's book was protected under Free Speech? That's right, they all are.
How about the last time an author's novel was patented... Bingo.
I dunno, my 1GHz Athlon gained almost a minute when it went I compiled $KERNEL on a default redhat kernel, and then again compiling the same kernel while running 2.4.3-ac14. Now, going from one ac- to another may not make a difference, but leaving _default redhat kernel_ did (isn't that what they used on the k7 compiles?) --
Which are you neglecting and which are you keeping?
Acceleration at 9.8m/s^2? Well, that's due to gravity and will only work until the center. Terminal velocity? That's a product of friction, without which you wouldn't stop accelerating. Probably easier to s/person "freefalling" through the earth/object travelling at 120mph/ or somesuch.
You forget, of course, that Red Hat's *primary* distribution method is in binary packages (.rpms) with source being secondary (.srpms). If the license in question prohibits binary re-distribution, then Red Hat obviously can't make it part of the distro. Part of Powertools, perhaps, but not the (.rpm-based) distro. This makes all your points - good, bad, or indifferent - all the same: moot. --

You have smoked yourself retarded.

Jesus ... isn't that the fellow in whose name more people have been killed than any other cause, ever?
Give me one example of an entry in the Constitution (sans amendments) which doesn't have its foundation in some religious text.

Alternatively:
"Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes habit."
It's not about the money. Per-Seat prevents me from redistributing, which _is_ a violation of the GPL.

A frightening image not too far removed from reality, non?

I have Linux 7.2
Um, that *is* supposed to be a joke, right?

What, you haven't heard about SSNv6?
That's the sort of damned pedantry up with which I will not put.
