Part of the issue here is that just because he submitted a write up on what he claims he did doesn't mean he didn't leave a backdoor. Chances are he didn't but until they analyze everything (which takes forever given the number of servers a university department has), how do they know? It could be a way of covering tracks.
Look at it this way, you got home one day and found a 16 page write-up about how a guy broke into your house, disabled the motion detector, and finally video taped it all, how would you feel? Jail is beyond what I would do personally but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be peachy for such a kind gesture.
Except for the fact that these services aren't getting used so they demand ridiculous things but in the end if they can't get people to use it they only have their cartel to blame. Its an expendable resource at this point because its so easy to get it other places then the online stores each label sets up.
"The whole thing springs from the fact that science is the pursuit of knowledge, and in some systems (like chemistry) you're building models to understand the unknown, while in others (like logic) you're working with the consequences of knowingly assumed premises."
Believe it or not in theoretical Computer Science you build models as well. You seem to be suggesting that in all cases you have a theory and are looking to verify results but in certain cases you can build a model simply to analyze what is still unknown. For instance getting trace data on a network in some weird way may actually yield results that nobody had expected.
Yes its a world of grays we live in and ultimately we put order and associations with what stuff is but it can always fall apart.
Well I think more people need to do their part in getting that message across.
I for one not only wrote a review for Amazon, but I wrote one for Game Stop and Game Fly as well. Make sure people know the game play is boring and the DRM is a joke by voicing it across the gaming world so people don't buy something they regret because they are uninformed.
Ironically I've owned a lot of FoxConn boards over the years in all sorts of PCs and the one Gigabyte board I bought was completely defective. Then the second I one I bought a few years later was also defective.
Its interesting how one person's perspective can be completely different on quality huh?
Ya cause boycotting it really sends a message. If everyone did that then the movie industry would just assume less people want to watch movies not that their prices are too extreme. There have been almost no changes to pricing since the emergence of online media. With pirating you at least give them solid numbers in terms of people interested but just not paying their prices. Now if they were to drop that price they could easily see that the number pirating their content will go down and the number buying goes up. Now they can't get everyone to start buying their content but they don't have to, they just need to get more people buying to the point where they actually make more money.
This is economics 101, if you don't understand what an equilibrium price is then I suggest you avoid talking about economics all together.
Or they could just leave them blank and image it after the order is place. There by removing the need to reimage and making neither more expensive to install from the technical side.
Sorry I just think $120 to reimage a system in production with the default choice is absolute bull and you are stretching it. I think the reality is simply the crapware and the cheap licenses that Microsoft provides are better reasons for the price differential.

Is this that surprising? I mean the whole tone of the article suggests they know nothing of how things work behind the scenes. Not to mention if you have 20 tabs open the OS can still page swap with VM. This whole article screams noobs to me.
What do you expect the consumer in the western world to do though? Everyone always says well you vote for this with your wallet but give me an example of how we can buy toothpaste that doesn't come from a polluting factory in china? All the brands are made their now. So am I supposed to stop brushing my teeth? Oh there's organic toothpaste but I don't want toothpaste that does a worse job, I just want toothpaste that isn't going to destroy the world when its produced.
Its easy to blame everyone but its a lot harder to come up with solutions for individuals. The only realistic force that can control this is our government because they have the power to block the imports and force it to be made cleanly. Unfortunately our government doesn't want to take such steps and there isn't anyone I'm aware of that I can vote for that would...
Well $600-$800 dollar preorders isn't inspiring to buy. They are going ahead with launches in other countries before the US even has a supply that is worthy of buying... Seriously someone if you have bought an Xbox 360 in a physical store since the last 2 weeks please post here becuase obviously a product can't sell if its not possible to find or get within reason.
Yet others have an obvious point that even if you could get one why would you? They didn't even launch with any killer titles. So it defeats the point entirely. I guess some would get it for its media features or to help the homebrew community but thats not the point of a system... An original Xbox is actually still a better purchase in those regards... I sure as hell love my original Xbox and have no plans to upgrade.
It seems to me that this stupid thinking could be applied to a lot of things. Like what about all those Disney movies that had inside jokes and pranks that were dirty. What about if we sued Leonardo Davinci because of The Last Supper.
Why should any company be held responsible for the actions of a few individuals? Imagine if record labels got sued because of the things that their artists say in their songs. All of these things might not be quite the same thing but they related enough to show that thinking like this only damages a society.
So it seems to me that another idiot jumped on the band wagon of attacking the video game industry because its been in the news and it seemed like the cool thing to do if you want to create a lawsuit and attempt to generate money for a city thats lacking the funds to maintain its infastructure.
Why not create the next product in the line up and name it MyHome. They can setup hidden cameras in people's houses which send information and video to companies who wish to pay for it so they can target more ads and find more ways for me to send my hard earned funds on stuff that doesn't matter.
I feel like ANY abnormal weather has people on edge now. Since scientists brought up the idea of global warming we assume that anything that isn't average must be a sign of global warming. Now its possible that global warming may come but its not like hot air is causing tropical storms in DECEMBER. People may disagree but then I would like to remind them the average global temperature rose about.5 degrees Celcius this year.
They have word that describes people's current thoughts about global warming, its 'paranioa'
I love how companies really expect people to buy their product because it has a better slogan. Anyone who has the choice between a processor probably doesn't pick it based on the slogan. Anyone who doesn't know what makes a good processor probably buys a prebuilt machine and really doesn't have a choice cause its not like manufactured PCs have AMDs very often... and even Macs are gonna be Intel soon. So basically the effect of this is nothing at all.
I was thinking this was some guys random thoughts about cases but apparently there is an article.

This is one of the few times I've seen US judges support a side based on the constitution. Recently I've notice that we have a bunch of situations where people are claiming it violates the 1st amendment or some other part of the constitution and usually you here nothing after that. It just sort of goes silent and later you learn that whatever was objectional somehow got through.
See this sort of thing restores a little faith in the court system to recognize this document that is vital to the security of the individual. Should courts rule in favor of violations then one day we might look back on these times as a failure of will power from the american people.
Seriously just spend the 3-5 bucks a month and get some basic hosting. Its worth the cost cause you don't even have to know how to build a site. You can just install the solutions given to you by the host or one you download. I think more people should consider this because I'm less interested in blogs from websites like blogger.com because it requires just blabbing once a day and nothing else so I tend to think the quality is slightly lower. This may just be in my head but I think this is a really good reason for people consider homebrew blogs.
You act as if Microsoft is so anti competition but then you have all heard of macs and linux so apparently they aren't perfect because most the world now at least knows there is an alternative...
Seriously if people continue to just bash microsoft hear then it shows they are no better then the funded surveys that microsoft does to prove they are better except you guys are doing it for the OSS industry for free.
Most everyone of my friends is a studying to be an engineer. I think the reality is that we are graduating its just taking longer then 4 years these days. I know its taking some people up to 6-7 years in a 4 year program to actually graduate. Most of this has to do with horrible advisors in my opinion. They don't give or offer much direction in 4 year state schools. Instead students are left to figure it out on their own and that means they don't always pick exactly what gets them out of there the fastest. Keep in mind people are switching majors a lot more these days too.
However I have noticed that the graduate times for students at private universities in the US is less then state schools. My honest opinion is that the state governments have underfunded certain parts of our public universities but not everything. Its understandable cause they needed money for something else right now that we can't afford. Thats one of the reasons why I transfered to a private university, I feel the education I am getting right now is a more expensive but the quality is a lot higher.
Humans become addicted to a lot of things. I'm addicted to caffeine, building computers, playing games, checking email, listening to music, watching shows I like, etc.
We live our life addicted to things. So when they tell me that I'm addicted to the internet I just look at the person and say so what are you addicted to? Most likely some other stupid thing. All humans are addicted to something at some time. Some addictions are worse then the other but the internet is only mental and its not any worse then a girl going shopping all the time. Its harmless except maybe socially like shopping harms the wallet.
To me the fact that we have people wasting money to study the fact that people use the internet all the time and become addicts is like spending money to study understand why dogs always want to eat. Its pointless and a waste of resources.
They are putting all their eggs in the ISP enforcement basket. I'm sure that will do wonders.
