My impression is that the PS3's actual capabilities are not what people are claiming will kill the PS3. It's the price. I haven't heard much beyond the price as a reason to not get a PS3.
What can be done about it? None of those people are reachable like they claim and everyone who goes against the norm (lobbyists) will be discarded as a radical...
We'll see when RH topples under Oracle's new strategy. What will happen when RH's employees need places to work? Well, Oracle will be looking for developers who know RH! Then not only do they not need us, they employee us and we become part of the borg. How 'bout that?!
As much as I hate it, Ellison has a good plan here.
Agreed completely. It's not about Red Hat. Red Hat is the market leader for Linux so why not start with the leader and then build from there. If you make your entire strategy fully compliant with the market leader while offering db and other app services, you become a one-stop shop. THAT is the strategy here.
If you set browser.tabs.closeButtons to 0, only the selected tab will have an x on it. I think this is pretty neat. Using value 3 puts the x behind the pull down that lists all the tabs and I think it looks kinda ug.
All sorts of expensive projects... I definitely would not pay $600 for a video game system and then run linux on it. I usually want my linux computers on all the time.
I use altdesk and I'm very happy with it. I've been using it for about a year and a half since entering the financial software dev world. I was all Linux and Macs until then. Now I'm all Linux and Macs at home and all Windows and Linux in the office.
My entire setup is actually kinda neat. I hide the desktop icons, use cygwin, but with a putty shell interface (search for puttycyg), aquadock (an apple style launcher) and altdesk. Combine that with iTunes and Firefox and you won't really mind windows so much. It's at least tolerable...
and the only time there was any interference with our Internet was when Napster (which was invented there) was being used to such extremes that Internet effectively stopped working. They reduced the priority of Napster and other file transferring services so people could still check email and reach web sites.
Demand generation. Vista itself has no demand (meaning no extra benefit over XP), so they have to artificially create demand now.
Companies have done this forever. It's nothing new with Vista. When you get a free sample, that's a combination of marketing and demand generation. They convince you you need the product and won't be happy without it. Fight Club covered this long before Vista was being talked about...
I found that the problem with youtube is opening a flash video while you have something else open that has access to your sound device. Close any programs that use your sound devices and then close your browser and try youtube again. It works fine for me every time. It's really annoying, but at least you can use youtube...
Step 3 is wrong. They buy the company and still expect them to work on the project. The employees are just wealthy now.
And 49% of America one will pay no attention to it, just like Fox News.
You have a good point too. I think, however, that maybe Ford could take a lesson from MS.

Anyone care to say otherwise?

Stallman, can you give them funding?

Honest question... Can someone explain to me what it's doing that's got all this attention? It seems like a really advanced MUD or MOO to me...
It's almost like steam coming out of a valve!

NEU is a private University, btw.

I was being facetious... no one got it, though...
...it'll be a matter of which widget set you prefer. The api's, however, will be identical for both!
Where else would you move? Everywhere else sucks. That's right, everywhere else! SUE ME!
