Maybe we should refer to ourselves as "land of the long smug cloud". At least you never mentioned "ahead of the curve...". Im starting to wish we had a military, if george clooney ever gets close to NZ we might have to shoot him down to avert a catastrophy.
I think management may have brought the new cubicle slave in my department cpu fan from the same place. They arn't getting rid of me that easily though, got some $1 airplugs at lunch time.
Well i would prefer some trek to always be on, but im not all that concerned about enterprise.
I had been quite an enterprise supporter and was really happy when it was not cancelled last season. But having subsequently watched the new battlestar galactica, and catching up on the last couple of seasons of the some-what average voyager this year, enterprise just does not cut it. Enterprise just looks cheap, stories and characters are uninspired, i dont think ill miss this series when it finishes.
But saying that i hope a new trek series set further in the future appears on the horizon soon. Personally, prequels suck, would rather they keep things going forward
Although it was sad initially when suprnova died and i grieved for a few days i think im over it now. Ive found other sources of torrents and life is going on. It was hardly suprising that it died considering its popularity, but better alternatives will appear in the future.
If napster had never been shut down would the motivation to develop something better have appeared? Perhaps it would have but i doubt as quickly. In someways it can be viewed as a form of natural selection or survival of the fitest. Superior methods of p2p networking will continue to evolve, wether a "perfect" system will evolve which can not be shut down in the future is not certain, but alot of smart individuals are putting alot of effort into it. As long as people want to download media for free, p2p networks will be in demand.
If there was a legal way for me to download movies for a $ or so, 700mb rips would be fine, then id probably do it. I dont see why for tv shows they dont release digital versions for distribution on something like bittorrent maybe with transparent ads in one corner of the screen to cover advertising costs, enterprise for example displays a transparent UPN logo during the whole show, why not display a coke/imb/intel ad?
Unless "they" alter there marketing model to distibute media in a digital age so they can earn some money from free/minimal cost downloads, they wont get any money out of me.
The good times continue to roll...
This is great news! Its been a bit of a pain the last week with suprnova on the fritz. I was just saying to a friends yesterday bittorent needs to make itself completly decentralized, without the need to go to a website and link to a tracker, it sure is a bit of a bottle neck. Without knowing all the details of how it will all work together, i wounder if its technically possible for a completly decentralized P2P network to be shut down? With all the talk of a 35% internet bandwidth market share, suprnova website would be an obvious target at the moment, but moving in a this direction like this seems very appealing for the longterm survival of the network.

Yeah i have been downloading tv for years too, but its often my only way to watch tv and keep up with shows.
I travel around a bit and live in different countries. When i lived in germany i downloaded tv as i could not understand german dubbing. Im in sweden at the moment and down have a tv, just a laptop and a high speed internet connection.
Also the release schedule is different depending on where you are in the world, so even if the tv is in english i often find they arnt at the same point in a series as the last place i was.

Id be happy to contribute to this fund, It would probably cost less. I think i would enjoy this more than another 3 season of enterprise too.
