"It downloads an image file with adult content from the Internet and opens that file in a new document, according to Kaspersky's posting."
What a great feature!
Jokes aside, this actually could be dangerous if used correctly. The proof-of-concept is only demonstrated with a porn image, but imagine what could potentially be used in place of the adult content..
This is like a whole new uncovering of scandal and politics. Sure, it's probably been happening for as long as its been around, but it's kind of scary to think that something as crucial and sensitive as science, which is so important in our lives can have the interest of business (or money) before fact and well being.
Do they really plan to compete with Adobe with these type of system requirements? It's pretty ridiculous that you have to be running on XP or greater to run this mspaint2005 application.
and I'm addicted to checking my e-mail.
The article suggests ways to avoid your email compulsion..
"Resolve not to check e-mail after a certain hour of the night, and respect the curfew."... is this some kind of joke? "Go without e-mail one day per week."
What is so bad about checking your e-mail? Are they going to start an Emailers Anonymous group? Where can I join?
You have to get the mp3 adapter kit to be able to play the mp3s, so it doesn't work out of the box with mp3s and pictures, and it looks like they only have a 32MB card for it. This isn't worth anything if you ask me, don't waste your time trying to put your own videos on it.
Before we know it everyone is going to be running his or her own radio stations while driving to work. Which is neat and scary at the same time. Now we can blog on the road! Heck, maybe advertising companies will pay us to promote a commercial after every song! Then we can really be the radio!
If computer viruses were detrimental to our health, we'd all be dead. Although, if computer viruses were actually deadly, think of how much smaller this number would be..
I didn't get to see the aware show itself, but I was fortunate enough to see previews of it on commericals, and boy can I say I'm glad I didn't see it. From what I saw, it looked more like an ad campaign then anything else.
It is a good idea but in a business enviorment it's not that easy to just shut down your mail servers for two days.
I've been using SpamAssassin with a Qmail setup for some time now and I've pretty much filtered out 95-98% of all SPAM. SpamAssassin has a Bayes learning system that can learn between the spam and non-spam messages and it works well.
Back in the day virus writers main intent or goal was to piss off users and to create the next 'big' virus. Now a days, it's all about the money. Those same virus writers are now focusing their attention on the same aspects of before, infecting and disrupting a users system, but when money is involved, the stakes get higher, and things become a lot more dangerous.
However, this article is pleading that we should *not* be publishing vulnerabilities, "because it gives hackers a tool", and I disagree with this. Publishing vulnerabilities is a way to alert the public of exploits that are present. What we need to do is make the publishing of vulnerabilities more popular than it is so that the general public is aware of problems and alerted on how to fix them.
Nearly $100 million in value in three years of commerical venture.. I'd say Roesch is doing well. There are many opensource projects that have potential for venture capital deals, Snort was just one of the first few in line.
Reminds me of the 1999 O`Reilly book "Open Sources: Voices from the Open Source Revolution"
At a cheaper cost and being able to take it to my GYM/ and wear it around my neck I wouldn't mind listening to the first few seconds of every song in order to navigate, if that was the case.
Besides, if you chose your playlists wisely, every song will be a song you want to hear.
It's nearly winter? That shouldn't be an excuse. I grew up building snow forts and having snow ball fights in the winter. I'd be caught dead in front of the t.v. when there was enough snow on the ground to build a fort.
The kidnapping thing I can understand to an extent, but no kidnapper is looking for a group of kids. But this is a whole different subject.
Agreed. It's way to often that we see parents throwing their kids in front of the TV or a video game because they have other things to do and putting their kid in front of a TV will keep a child occupied.
If parents wern't using TV's as a babysitter we wouldn't have these kinds of problems.
Why can't kids go outside and play anymore? We wouldn't have to worry about censorship of television if these damn kids would get out from in front of the TV and stay active.

does this mean pigs can fly? have we had the cure for cancer all along??
I want my mommie.
I'm still waiting for a rename of Kentucky to Kitchen Fresh. Jeez we need reform!

Well there goes my theory that Linus Torvalds is "Zero Cool" from Hackers and he is married to Angelina "Acid Burn" Jolie ::sad face::
Just outsource to India, your sure to stumble into at least 5,000 bugs in a 100 line code program!
elementry schools should be using linux.. I would have had a blast back then playing super-tux instead of friggen oragon trail..

They forgot to add "naked" after all of those queries on Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Wheres the evidence? Sure this makes for a good story, but without proper evidence all it is to me is an attempt at a scandal.

Looks like I'll be stocking up on the last ever Pentium II's! These babys will be hotter than an autograph of Jesus.

No reviews for the open source products.. I have a great time with Spam Assassin.
