X2Go isn't too bad. Much of the superfluous traffic is dropped and it uses different compression algorithms so the performance is actually quite a bit better than just the usual ssh -Y. Worth a shot if you require remote access to applications.
I would be happy if voice call functions are unavailable when moving in a car\bus\train unless there is some kind of headset (Bluetooth or headphones) connected. Video calling I'd be happy to be blocked completely when moving, no one wants to be subjected to other people video calling, especially on public transport.
Also the summary is incorrect, there are 64 sites that use CHIRON in the state and they are all regional sites with low numbers of presentations. There are 11 metropolitan sites (plus their satellite sites) that use either the updated system or another old legacy UNIX system that is in-line for replacement with the new system.
CHIRON is not MS-DOS based, It runs on SunOS and is delivered by a terminal session.
There are a number of other old patient administration systems (all UNIX based, mostly SunOS but OpenVMS as well, all delivered by terminal session) that are in use currently and hospitals that use them are being migrated to the new single system but it's a slow process as the new system does more than just patient administration, it replaces a number of other old systems as well.
So that it's MS-DOS based is just plain wrong.
I don't want to get into the licensing issues with Working Systems.
What I don't understand about articles trying to increase the CS/STEM workforce whether that be minorities or just in general is that ultimately these people that are being encouraged to join these fields will take your jobs when you are no longer the "right age" no matter how good you are at whatever you do. Not to mention the impact on salaries the extra workforce will have.

While I can understand your argument in all honesty it isn't always a case of circumventing the local taxes and tariffs. There are some items that do not get released in Australia or have a delayed release. It really does suck when you read reviews of a product you desperately want only to find it will not be released in your country and the only way to get it is through one of these package redirection services.
I don't see how changing to electronic records is the problem here. It's the fact that staff at the hospitals have been coding the patients incorrectly and under paying the doctors and hospitals performing the procedures, in addition to possibly over paying for other procedures.
This is why the rest of the world uses ICD-10 coding.
I hadn't seen that from Turnbull. I wonder just how many of those informal votes were on purpose. I don't believe a majority were mistakes, the House of Representatives is not exactly hard to place your vote. If a voter can't count 1 to 6 (or however many candidates) then they probably shouldn't be voting in the first place. The Senate on the other hand, I can totally understand screwing that up if you're a bit masochistic and chose to go below the line. The damn voting slip doesn't even fit in the booth!
Can't SIMs only hold 250 contacts? I know that's the limit of my SIM. When you have more contacts than that I think you have little other choice to sync your contacts with some external contact list/address book (like an email client) in case your phone dies.
Not a bad idea for elementary kids. A simple redirect using squid to a PHP form which would email someone a link to the site in question and another PHP form for approval which would then automatically append to a whitelist if approved and to a blacklist if denied so students can’t keep submitting the same site. There are a few sites around that have whitelists for education purposes opendns.com springs to mind. The problem is with so many sites being created daily it’s impossible to keep up with educational resources for middle school and high school kids and you are better off with just a blacklist which are more readily available.
When I was first starting out in IT I worked at a reasonably large high school and found the best way to filter was using squid and have a large blacklist automatically updated weekly and use a log analyser such as Sarg to generate reports on a daily basis and anything that seemed out of place or got a lot of traffic and wasn’t related to education would go on the blacklist. Of course none of this was available off the shelf back then, but it’s still probably the best way to go about it considering that it’s a non-profit school. As for facebook, it should be blocked in any school environment, there is nothing on there of any education value.

I'm going to have to agree. I have been using XBMC for a couple of years now and it is far and away the best media centre out there at the moment.
I'm running the Lars Op Den Kamp PVR build of Eden with tvheadend for the TV tuners on Oneiric and use a logitech rumblepad 2 for the controller. Set it up with zsnes and dolphin-emu and can access these without even leaving the couch. The addons repos are great, adding quite a lot of features you could only dream of in other media centres. I rarely have issues even with the latest un-stable builds and when I do there is already a patch out for it.
As for Boxee being for dummies, XBMC isn't hard at all anymore thanks to projects like OpenELEC. I built a system for a friend using OpenELEC and it could not be easier.
I can't back it up with figures but I would hazard a guess that most people would buy their phones/plans direct through their carrier, locked to that specific carrier. The major carriers have stores located everywhere. It is possible to buy an unlocked phone from a phone store like All Phones, Crazy John's, Telechoice, etc. and they don't seem as numerous. No one I know has bought a phone/plan from one of these places. In regards to the phones being carrier locked it's now easily possible to have your carrier unlock your phone and the carriers are required to do so. If you are on a contract you must keep paying though. Don't know if that made things clearer or more muddy.
I'm also in the same situation as you are. Telstra port and Internode ADSL2+ although I get a 19mbit sync. Have to say I have been with Internode for years and haven't had a problem with them. Love all the "free" and fast content.

Well it doesn't take an extra power adapter.. I really don't mind what it is but something that actually has a bit of power would be nice. Also I run my HTPC on Linux so I'm not sure those fancy audio features are working yet on the ATI drivers, and what about hardware decoding?? I currently have a 8400GS ticking away in my system quite nicely, not really much good for anything but decoding..

ICD-10 has also been used in Australia for well over a decade, it was in use before I started working the health sector in 2003.
