If they host it on their own site they have to pay for more bandwidth usage. Plus, if a movie studio releases a new movie online that is in high demand, they may not be able to support the number of simultaneous downloads that the public would demand. So as a result everyone would be getting something like 2kb/s. With bittorrent, the more people downloading something the faster everyone's transfer speeds... more or less.
I agree 100% about how interchangable the characters were. They didnt really feel unique battle-wise because they all could basically do the same thing if you swaped out the materia.
I actually did go get the Knights of the Round summon. I understand your frustration in that it took so much work to do EVERYTHING, but stuff like that adds a lot of replay value for me. Call me obsessive compulsive if you like, but I don't feel like I have beaten a game unless I have gotten EVERYTHING.
When I first read this interview I admit I was a bit excited. But seriously think about what he is saying:
We think a remake of FF7 would be cool.
We are not currently working on a remake
If we do a remake it really ought to be directed by Nomura
"Nomura-san has so many other projects lined up already in the future schedule, so it's almost impossible to think about that [a FF7 remake] and squeeze that in."
He is saying it would be cool, but it's not something that's going to happen any time soon.
For some reason I remember reading that Tivo struggles to stay out of the red and that they are really not even that profitable. So why then would they add in a feature to restrict the functionality of their product and piss people off?
There has to be something else here, this just doesnt make buisness sense.
I would like to believe that the majority of parents out there are smarter than the media makes them out to be.
I really think the majority of the hub-bub that has gone on about GTA is politically motivated. GTA is obviously not packed with family values so any politician who goes up against it obviously is mister (or Mrs) Family Values.
... even if it is not intended to ever be accessed during game play.
Anyway, it's kind of pointless makign this assertion now anyways. After all the crap Rockstar is going through a situation like this wouldnt happen again for a long long time. As an above poster mentioend it's just a publicity thing.
But then again, publicity or not it's important for the general population to feel like the ESRB is doign their job.
I would be more willing to pay extra for additional game content. For example the extra multi-player maps for Halo 2. That was nice.
And then big wigs in the game industry are talking about serializing games. Think of Eternal Darkness where a new scenario comes out every month, each one costs $10.

Rogue Agent was made by a completely different company from who made GoldenEye. The rights to the James Bond franchise were redistributed.
For those who don't know, the spiritual successor to GoldenEye on the N64 was Perfect Dark, on the same system. The sequel to that is called Perfect Dark Zero and is a launch title for the XBox 360.
I dont know about Perfect Dark Zero, but Perfect Dark (on the N64) was even better than GoldenEye.
Microsoft is not follow standards but the majority of the people browsing the web DO use Internet Explorer. Because of this, the majority of websites are designed and tested to render on Internet Explorer, with other browsers such as Opera and Firefox taking a lower priority. Thats just how it is. Standards be damned, most people try to get their site to look right on IE first.
There is a difference between rendering a page correctly, and rendering a page how the author intended. I am not saying its a good situation, but it's the situation we are in.
Does it surprise you that much that web developers focus their energy on getting their page to render correctly in the dominant browser?
I think Valve has the right idea in electronically distributing their games themselves. I don't think there buisness model is neccisarily the wave of the future or anything, but I think they are on the right track.
Talk all you want about gloom and doom of the game industry, someone is trying to buck the trend though.
You're saying Firefox has improved website rendering? Yes I know they are more standards compliant, but the majority of websites out there are designed and tested for IE first in mind. Off the top of my head I can think of 2 or 3 sites that do not render properly in Firefox, but work fine in IE. I cant think of any sites that are broken for IE but work for other browsers.
I'm no fan of Microsoft, but to be fair, the complaint about the 360 having better graphics but being more difficult to develop for is going to apply to ALL of the next-gen consoles.
I agree, deveopers complain about this sort of thing every generation.
To be fair to the 360, the summary does not do the article justice. For the most part it talks about how easy the 360 is to develop for.
For me the biggest attraction to a console is that I can buy any game released for the system, take it home and shove it in the drive and viola, working and playing flawlessly. With PC games you have to worry about installation and hardware compatability and the latest versions of DirectX (or OpenGL), etc. And then often you will still get slow downs here and there if you dont have a top of the line system.
And yes, the price tag compared to a comparable gaming PC has generally been pretty sweet in the past.:P
There is a lot missing...

And yes, Chrono Trigger's battle system rocked.
I would be against an updated battle system. I really liked how the materia system worked. Just my opinion though.

There are already home grown servers like this.

No I was really just making a reference to Neuromancer, a novel by William Gibson. If you havn't read it (and you like Sci-Fi) I highly recommend it.
Whats so bad about the Zen? I was thinking of buying one. >
How long till we start measuring population density by data traffic?
Seconded. I have been reading Penny Arcade three times a week for the past four years and their comics are better than ever.

Breaking news, this just in, the XBox 360 is gonna be expensive.
