Advent Children Director Wants To Redo FFVII
1up.com has an interview with director Tetsuya Nomura, one of the men behind Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts. In it, he talks about several aspects of Square-Enixs' gaming library, and admits he'd like to expand the PS3 tech demo into a full revamp of Final Fantasy VII. From the article: "The PS3 tech demo was actually not the perfect forum that he wanted to have. It was just timing that we had to submit something in time for E3, for the press conference. So, again, it was not perfect forum. And the 7 remake idea was always, always in conversation, just because it's so popular. And then just because of that tech demo here in the PS3 conference, that probably based more expectations of fans, obviously."
And I've waited how long to hear this now? ;)

Ya know, I'd love for Square to redo VII and just kill all the sacred cows that fanboys have about the game (and the series). I guess it's the asshole in me, as I've never played through the whole game (I probably should someday). I just think it's put on such a pedastal as the "ultimate RPG" (console style, anyway) and I don't know if it really deserves it.
PS: I'm not trolling here, these are just my off-the-cuff thoughts. Don't take this comment seriously, it's not meant to be a critique of FF/Square/gaming/fanboys/etc.
When you look at the state of the world, how can you not become a radical, liberal anarchist?
Final Fantasy VI was the best of the series.
Circumcision is child abuse.
The only one I've ver played was FF 8 on the PC. It sucked. I've never bothered to play any older or newer Final Fantasies. Completely unimpressed. It seemed like an RPG for those who didn't actually want to do any RPGing. Who had a pre-determined set path along which to play and no way to deviate from it. And the monster killing and leveling was sort of silly and superficial.
Of course, I'm judging based on one game out of what.. ten? twenty? Oh well.
I just peed my pants a little bit
Seriously, are you willing to shell out at least 50 quid for an RPG you have already played, albeit with better graphics?
Old is new again. No thanks.
Remakes never made good games, and never brought back the old vibes.
Hack your mind out of its sandbox.
Even with the reported high cost of the PS3, if they do an excellent job on a FF7 remake using the full capabilities of the new hardware then that alone would be enough reason for me to buy PS3.
I think it's sad that the thing is deteriorating to the point where all they do is put out re-hashed versions of the old stories. FFX2 was a joke. Now they want to simply re-make FFVII.
The goal shouldn't be to re-make FFVII. It should be to go out and make something even better.

He is saying it would be cool, but it's not something that's going to happen any time soon.
Maybe it could be a good idea? I mean, when was VII released? It's been a couple years. If they actually updated the game with better cut scenes, more side missions, and an updated battle system, it might be worth buying.
I'd pay $100 for a revamped version of FFVII, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I've spent hundreds of hours on the game, and would most certianly do it all again.
So yeah, I recommend the fansub entirely. I'll assume you all know how to find a copy.
SAILING MISHAP
There is not a single reason to not remake FF7, its considered to be one of the best FF in the series and opened up MANY more people to the final fantasy series and RPG games alike. Its not like it wouldnt sell well, it would probly sell more than FFX and X2 put together. I consider the fighting system to be the best in FF7, considering its just like a classical RPG with different weapons and basicly you upgrade your character through exp (FFX was a joke..wtf is with that sphere grid crap?). FF8 kinda sucked because nomatter how good you leveled, all the monsters would be exactly your level..it made no sense and was boring to play. Never played 9, but it looked pretty good too. Final Fantasy 7 had so much to do it was crazy, when i first played it (it was my first RPG) i thought the ending was when you go to midgar tower and fight on the elevator, damn was i surprised when there was more after that. The mini games were crazy and pretty damn fun, there was so much to unlock and secret stuff to find. It had comedy, sex, an entire world that each region was different. Hell, it had 2 weapons that were like two or three times stronger than the final boss so you had something even more to work for after you beat it. Unlike most of the rpg's the final boss actually was the hardest boss in the game (hell..you fought 3..or was it four? of them in a row). Anyway..enough of me ranting how good ff7 was. For the person who said they should make FF Acid :D its been done. Its called Final Fantasy 8..keke. Also there was a card game in FF11...but..no one played it.
...I'll be forced to buy a PS3

I just hope they explain what the 'weapons' were. I will definatly buy it since I loaned it to a friend before reading it (hope you are reading this Glenn), and never got to finish it.
...to the world of japanese RPG's.
THIS IS THE INTERNET. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR SERIOUS BUSINESS SUIT AT THE FRONT COUNTER.
I always assumed a FF-VII remake would mean everything remains EXACTLY the same as the original EXCEPT for the graphics... but I think I might have assumed too much.
Now, I (at least) hope we (the prospective players) will be given a few choices when playing the remake, as we start the game, like "use only original gameplay content" vs. "use updated content too", and maybe "use old style textboxes" vs. "use newly created speech and subtitles".
By reading this signature you agree to not disagree with the post you just read.
How about a brand new game, that would be nice. Why create a re-make, especially when the ps3 is backwards compatable to the ps1.
Or hell, maybe a non FInal Fantasy.
Possibly off topic but I think most people get turned off by ff8 mostly because they expected it to blow them away and live up to ff7's legend. Square obviously aimed to create a game that could get more less ff acquainted interested by using more emotionaly constipated characters that might be easier to identify with, I'm sure teens were quite a target audience. If you haven't noticed it's also probably one of the FF's closest to having the least outragous fantasy or sci fi setting, making it seem a little more realistic if at all, well atleast it's not medevil with castles everywhere or a future of fallout and pain. Personally I think it wouldnt turn out too bad as a movie compared to the others, after some huge story compressing of course.
Of course they will. Get over it, already.
If something works...dont mess with it. In the case of FFVII, you all ominously agree on that.
So...
Advent Children. Why would Square Enix spent ALOT of money on something that the mass majority wont understand and cant connect with? If you have been fortunate enough to see the film, the opening title explains that this film is meant for those who had once known the characters and explored the lands, a nod to the people who plyed the game.
The musical score has the original resonance from the game, the characters attitudes were represented fantastically, and tiny details honed in on what really made the game special.
People will see this film for its CGI and wonder what the game was all about. Questions are unexplained, their are so many factors as to why they would release this film prior to the PS3. This game, if re-made, with an improved (maybe not turn based) fighting system, maybe in real time, on the actual maps, in gloriously rendered graphics, would have people flocking, and would explain the film, and ultimately...WOULD MAKE SENSE.
You dont throw millions and expect your grossing not to come back ten fold.
Be sure of it. Advent children is a selling tactic.
I'm 20 now, i plyed FFVII at 14, were 'fairly' old in the video game world now, especially when reminicing about such a game. If it was re-made, id buy it. Id love to play it though with fantastic graphics and all the strings pulled together. And despite a few bitter people who slam the idea of a remake, it would sell. It would sell very very well.
