    My perception is that the ThinkPad brand worths 70% of the IBM PC business, the other 30% (maybe less) is corporate support.

    That leave 0% for its desktop products.

    I wonder if it really helps that much, because when people just add a few words and then forward their emails to others, it makes having SIS irrelevant.

    Maybe having a central place (SharePoint or Public Folder for a MS shopjargon?) that do the files sharing and those stuff, and leave just important messages send through email will reduce the need of >2GB mailboxes?

    We can help shape the public opinion by voicing out loudly in public media, then MAYBE we can make it a bit more to our liking.

    Sitting in front of your computer glazing at your monitor and taking lame excuses is unlikely to help.

    I don't care much about such stories these days. While they may show how the current patent system is outdated and abused, these stories tell nothing about how to improve it.

    What we need is more discussion about reforming the patent systems and then REALLY CARRYING OUT THE REFORMS.

    Got known of it when it was included in the development branch of floppyfw http://www.zelow.no/floppyfw/ - A Linux-based router software package that fits on a floppy disk (yes, those 3.5" diskettes).

    And to answer someone above questioning the performance of using a PC to route packets instead of dedicated hardware, it depends on what dedicated hardware you're talking about. For once I believe many of the $50 boxes out there are indeed quite poor in performance when compared to a reasonablty antique (say 486DX2-66) PC running a *nix router package.

    But if you mean the $5000 layer 2 router, then I don't know.

    Heard and knew that Gmail uses a lot of JavaScript and XMLHTTPRequest (the so called "AJAX" thing). But the underlying codes are in Java or it's running on a Java platform is unheard of...

    Somebody please advise...

    I can't speak for the executives but IMO what the parent said is quite true.

    Also, don't forget that if Cisco is forced to deal with the human right issues and the PRC government is fed up, she can go to Huawei http://www.huawei.com/ instead for all the equipment and solutions she need.

    Considering the lawsuit Cisco brought against Huawei before, what else could be a better middle-finger than this?

    If what the stockholders concern most is short-term profit, I guess this issue maybe better leave aside.

    I think that depends on how you define the word "OK". I suppose that means "nothing changed" to you.

    For the thress examples you offered, one of them is a tautology, the other one is lacking in clear designation, and the last one is right out incredible (I'll get air out of this vacuum blah blah blah...)

    These are "marketing speech" and no one in his right mind will actually care about not because at the end it will be "OK" but that the statements themselves are in fact empty in meaning.

    It seems that many people (including me) hate PDF files being opened in the browser. What I don't understand is that why people don't just disable that option in Acrobat Reader (in case you don't have lighter-weight alternatives installed like xpdf and Foxit). It was a broken option before but AFAIK in the lastest Reader version it's functioning.

    I'm probably bias that I prefer Palm over PPC. However, one thing kept me from even *considering* getting a new Palm is that the Palm OS's lack of non-English language support.

    Right now, to view Chinese on most Palm devices involving installing special programs whose workings date back to DOS-age.

    OTOH, PPC support Unicode internally.

    I know some consider supporting Unicode on mobile devices is a waste of valuable storage space, but I suppose using UTF-8 encoding is quite efficient and storage is not really that scarce, like when PDA only has 2MB RAM years ago.

    If PalmSource gets to support Unicode for text in PalmLinux (they don't have to bundle a complete set of Unicode fonts, that could be optional, but the OS should use Unicode internally...), that would be great, IMO.
