The other problem with the game is that even though you thought you quit early, you had almost beat the game. There were only 5 levels. I expected it to be like 50 levels as much detail was supposedly involved. After all, they are still training you on the 1st and 2nd...then you lose your creature for the 3rd. And the 5th had the bug so you couldn't beat it....obviously i'm very bitter about the whole thing.
I think maybe your not familiar with the Lionhead development cycle:
1) Hype up a game beyond belief...it will be the most realistic best game ever made, with such detail your brain will explode
2) Game is delayed for years
3) Game is released to much praise
4) Game has a bug so bad it cant be beaten (Black & White) or Players lose interest in game after about 2 hours (Fable or Black & White)
Their ideas are neat, but their execution is always half assed.
I seem to remember reading something in the WSJ that said their first quarter profit was going to look boosted because of options schnanigans...If 98% of their profits are from advertising, and they have not gained anymore market share as a search engine, where the fuck is all this magical growth coming from, just because they went public?
You gotta be kidding if you think the board of directors at Time Warner would approve another internet purchase after the debacle that was the AOL merger.
I agree they are overvalued, but to be devils advocate, its speculated they may start taking over MS's consumer application market. Offering a light OS with free ad sponsored word processors etc..
Can they really prove its Nintendogs that is causing this? Maybe just the initial excitement of PSP has worn off (or everyone that wanted one got one), and Nintendo just rose back to the top in the handheld console world.
What motivation would designers have to NOT do it? If Google is the most popular search engine, and you want to keep being searched, you have to keep up with what they want. Its like just because I may not like how MS embeds its browser in the OS, and its anticompetitive practices doesn't mean my company can stop producing software for Windows (and make a profit).
This is hardly new web technology...its not something like BitTorrent or VOIP or anything like that that is a truely innovative cool technology.
This is just a idea that allows a corporation to do its job better. It would be like if the Census Bureau asked everyone to mail a list of all of the members of their household to them, and update it when they have kids, so they didn't have to take the time to count door to door.
Every single product they put out is slashdot worthy.
This is such bullshit. Some of the stuff they put out is very cool and newsworthy like Google Maps, Gmail, etc... But so much crap that is either not ready yet, not unique, or just plain boring gets posted here. Its literally a direct feed of the Google blog half of the time.
It also annoys people like me how people on slashdot treat Google like its the second coming of Christ. If anyone says anything negative they get bombarded with posts saying they suck or their ideas are crazy, and any critism of google is given either a "ITS IN BETA!!!" or "YOUR A MICROSOFT ASTROTURFER!!!" and people also waste space giving google a handjob for an idea that has already existed for years. The personalized google portal and the google satellite pictures are two examples that come to the top of my head. Both of these things had been done by other sites for years and then google comes out with them and in the case of satellite pics did not improve upon the existing sites out there and in the case of the portal made an inferior product. Yet when Yahoo or MSN come out with a product that is an attempt at improving something existing, those same people say "COPY CATS!". It also doesn't help that the customized Google Portal only allowed you to add two news sites and one of them was slashdot. Furthermore many Google people post here, and they mention slashdot in the Google blog, so I think another thing that annoys me is there is a large amount of suspected Google astroturfing here.
f it was a problem purely with Firefox then it would have been noticed by now just through analysis of the source code
Just because a problem has been found does not mean it has been fixed in 1.0* . If you look at the bug reports there are many bugs that have been in every version of 1.0*, are known (and seem easily fixable) but were not fixed yet. Supposedly this and others are fixed in 1.1 and beyond though.
Thats one of the most accurate things i've heard in a long time...when it comes to search, unless Google has something big they arn't showing us, they are really falling behind the curve. Combine Clusty with this yahoo tool, and I would never even think about using Google again, which allows absolutely no drilling down. Using a complex algorithm of search terms to find exactly what you want is so 1998.
My workstation at work not only has speakers, it has a freakin' subwoofer on the floor. I think maybe Dell gave a package deal or something, because my job definitely does not require that the bass be thumpin' (though it does help)
They are not just spending the money to see open source innovation....its basically just another way for them to recruit students with good programming ability. Why else do you think its only available to students? This is really just a fancy recruitment drive with open source as an excuse to keep the "do no evil" flag flying.
haha i love tools like you that respond with such a "dickhead" response. Fine, I can respond to your's in the same manner. Instead of using normal civilized responses to debate.
Look fuckwad, first of all, all your links regarding Sirius content are TWO years old. It was when the company first launched. It was a completely different universe at that time. I can tell you from experience of listening to both XM and Sirius that you can't tell the difference in content, both are more diverse then anyone could want, and Sirius does not sound like the normal radio unless you put on the Hits station.
Second, Asshole...clearly you have not the slightest fucking clue about anything in investment since the link you sent to XM's institutional holders are the fucking mutual funds and INVESTMENT institutions that own them...notice it doesn't mention GM there? Clear Channel is an INSIDE holder, and is one of the PRIMARY stakes. See here for the original start of it: (since we're all about old links).
And while they have all of this content, they only got it by dramatically overpaying for it.
From an end user perspective, who the fuck cares? I get better content at the same price with Sirius. Content IS king. I can't figure out why anyone would pick XM over Sirius these days. Back a year or two ago XM had a price advantage, but now it pales in sports and talk content, and since Clear Channel is a huge holder of XM, its the same crap for music that I hear on every station in the country.
Lastly, Sirius cannot afford to launch another sat, and they need to.
This is based on what?.....My sirius has worked fine for long drives all over the country.
Sirius is losing the car partnership race. Folks that buy new cars have something like a 30-50% conversion rate for whatever ships in the cars.
This is complete bullshit, they have at least 50%, and whats more they have more premium brand cars like Mercedes, Jaguar, Aston Marton, etc.. If you think the average Hyundai buyer is more likely to buy then the average Mercedes person, your nuts.
Are you a complete idiot? Do you not understand how stocks work? You can't just look at the price...look at the market capitalization if you want to compare.
One impression I've gotten of Google compared to, say, Microsoft, is how quick they are to release new products
They "release" products that are in beta all the time. If your talking when the beta tag comes off, Google's software cycles are really long (The search was beta for like 5 years).
Also it's kind of apple's and oranges. It takes significantly more time to write an email client for Windows then it does to write a web mail client or many of Google's other programs. Google also can just "put something out there" on the web and see how people like it. Microsoft doesn't have that luxury since most of their products are software apps, not web apps. I also expect that because of the Web Accelerator debacle, Google will take a little more time to throughly vet things before putting them out there.
Well, first if we compare IIS6 to Apache 2.0, according to Secunia.com Apache has has way more vulnerabilities. Second, the frequency of patches is somewhat irrelevant. Many of the really bad Microsoft Worms like Code Red already had patches available months before major outbreaks. People just were not patching their stuff.
First of all, buying expensive products has nothing to do with what I said. Any hard drive mp3 player is an expensive product. What I said was that people pay extra for iPods so they can have an "iPod", instead of "an mp3 player". They then justify the purchase by claiming superior aspects of the click-wheel or whatever. Take for example the iRiver...it holds more data, shows pictures, has an FM tuner, Microphone, audio input/output, and is not tied to a specific application out of the box (iTunes). Sound quality tested by independant third parties show little difference (mp3 quality is supposedly sucky to true audiophiles anyways). Its roughly the same weight and size, and costs the same amount. It is superior in almost every way (we'll give you the superiority of apples control for the sake of argument), yet most people don't even look at it as an option.
You personally may have done an evaluation of mp3 players and decided that the features of the iPod are superior and worth the extra money. That's all well and good, but doesn't represent the majority of people I know who own them. People that wear them on big gaudy bands around their necks...in restarants...at night.
Furthermore, I don't begrudge you liking high end things, I have many of these same things as well, the difference is that the "brand" Apple iPod is currently a fad. It would be like when the Tamogatchi craze was in fashion...sure the generic virtual pet has more features, but its not a TAMOGATCHI brand, so you're not cool!!!
To use your example, the buying the iPod would be the equivilent of wanting a high performance, attractive luxury car, and picking a BMW 328 over an Acura RL. The Acura has better performance, comparable luxury, and just as many features, is cheaper, in addition to better gas mileage and room, yet many people pick the BMW over it because of the name and the recognition by their peers.
If you dont "get" the whole ipod thing, you probably don't "get" why people pay hundreds of dollars for a pair of sunglasses or buy ferraris. Its simply something to show off your status symbol. It in no way it technologically superior to any other mp3 player, and it also costs more. (Ok the shuffle supposedly has that rediculously good sound quality, but all that is negated by the crappy stock headphones that you must use to prove that your are a true yuppy.)
I forgot what is GOOGLE's mission? I forgot a long time ago that they were a web search engine, and that is what made them popular. Maybe they are secretly working to improve their web search, which personally I think still could use some more improvement before they start on all these other unrelated things that no one asked them to do.
It sounds like Microsoft will be using some arial photography for very close up shots...if Google owns keyhole which only did Satellite photography, i'm not sure they could offer this same feature and level of detail (without buying more photos)
The other problem with the game is that even though you thought you quit early, you had almost beat the game. There were only 5 levels. I expected it to be like 50 levels as much detail was supposedly involved. After all, they are still training you on the 1st and 2nd...then you lose your creature for the 3rd. I think the monks were just lying, dirty lying monks.

Dont they need electricity first? Last time i checked a night lights satellite of the world N Korea was one of the few dark spots.
Can they really prove its Nintendogs that is causing this? Maybe just the initial excitement of PSP has worn off (or everyone that wanted one got one), and Nintendo just rose back to the top in the handheld console world.
