If anything, recent policital events in the US have made me even MORE distrusting of our government and their potential for lies and cover-ups. WMDs, anyone? Prison torture? Patriot act and monitoring all types of communications?
These things make me even more worried and paranoid, to be honest.
There was a later episode in the same season, called "Tooms", which was basically a sequel to the previous episode in the same season. I still don't recall ever seeing this done again in another series -- a sequel to a stand-alone story episode, neither of which had any relation to the ongoing story arc. Good stuff. Should be done more.
Personally myself, I feel that someone (maybe an ISP) should provide some type of trainning or literature to help educate a home user on how to safely surf the net
The problem is that most casual, non-industry types (read: the AOL crowd) don't want to be bothered to read and learn from the literature that is out there. They don't want to take the time to learn what they need to know to protect themselves.
And no, there's nothing elistist about this point of view: if you want the priviledges that come with driving yourself around in your car, then you have to take the time to learn how to drive one, and read up on the rules of the road. Just because the Internet is out there does not mean you get to take advantage of it without some basic commitment of time and effort, and I consider things like learning how to avoid untrusted sites/files, installing firewalls and virus/spyware detection, and dealing with spam to be the most basic costs you pay to gain the advantages of the Internet use. To some, this will be a greater commitment than others, but that's the price you pay.
I realize that the malicious few out there are becoming more and more difficult to deal with, but there is NO reason we should have to dumb-down everything in the world to accomodate others' laziness or lack of motivation to learn.

This was the whole problem with the "6th Day" movie plot... decent movie overall, but I could not get over the fact that the characters were like "go ahead and kill me, they'll just clone me and I'll be right back". Like they personally would not still be dead or something.

Wouldn't extinct species returning be a bad thing? I mean, the ecosystem(s) have already adjusted to the absence of these creatures, and have no doubt replaced them with other creatures that serve their functions (scavengers, scatterers, carnivores, etc.). I think that reintroducing extinct species would potentially cause other species to become extinct, or cause a drastic imbalance in the worlds' ecosystems.
"Unfortunately, after trying to play the dvd back with Windows Media Player 9, I couldn't get it to work, as I needed to install a 3rd party, InterActual Player, application that was required to play back the content. I was a bit surprised as to why I needed to install InterActual Player as it says Windows Media Player 9 on the cover, why can't I simply play the content back without having to install yet another application? But then it became quickly apparent that I did not only have to install and download an update for the InterActual Player in order to facilitate playback, but would also need to acquire a license. So obviously the WMV9 content was protected by DRM and could only be unlocked after connecting to the license server to obtain a license..."
This would have happened with ANY DVD that the guy put into his computer. Windows Media Player 9, "out of the box", does not have any DVD decoder software for playing DVD movies built in. You still have to either a) pay for the Interactual DVD decoder that WMP9 "suggests" to you when you attempt to play a DVD on your computer, or b) buy a DVD decoder/player application off of the shelf.
The same thing happened to me when I recently installed a new DVD-ROM drive. I assumed that since I had Windows Media Player installed, I could simply pop in any DVD (and I tried many) and it would play. Not so, since a DVD playback decoding plug-in or player is NOT included in WMP9 -- instead, Microsoft wants you to go and pay for one from one of their partnered companies so they can both make more $/rip you off some more.
Now I have the same concerns about DRM/obscene copy protection/license ownership as the rest of us on here, but I really don't see what the article has to do with DRM at all.
