Am I the only one who wants to get a bunch of people together wearing color coordinated outfits so that when we sit in the stands we form a giant pepsi logo?
And not all people that are interested in making Honda Civics go fast are idiots either... I wish I could find the link, but there is at least one guy out there who runs mid-10s in his honda...
This is where a good styleguide will come in handy. Of course, even a styleguide won't completely make two different voices flow like one voice, but then again, how many times have you written part of a report while tired and part of a report while much more awake and had the two parts sound the same?
I couldn't agree more. As an English major, reading much of the documentation out there is hard enough. I can't imagine what will happen when people try to form a cohesive book. I guess I will just have to, instead of sitting in fear and bitching, actually contribute the skills I have learned in school. Hopefully there are other writers/editors out there who will do the same.
Why not do both? If you're going to buy the music, buy it from an organization that will donate some of your money to Oxfam. If you want to support Oxfam, give them your money directly. The two are not mutually exclusive ways of donating money.

Yeah, I really like the documents on the site too. Especially the one that quotes me as using some ridiculous string of compiler options that I tried once, had it break stuff and never used again. Good ol' Gentoo...
I couldn't agree more! Running is a time for me to relax and escape the stressors in my life. The constant thump-thump-thump of my feet hitting the ground is one of the most pleasant sounds for me. The only "technologies" I use/have used are a watch and a heart monitor.
I'm not too keen on the whole car analogy. Something tells me that if you learn to drive in a Plymouth Grand Voyager, you're probably not going to be able to hop into a McLaren F1 and be able to just drive it. That whole clutch thing, for one. But even if you learn in a Ford Festiva, are you going to be able to drive the McLaren? Different drivetrain. Different clutch--I'm willing to bet that the Festiva doesn't have a triple plate clutch in it. Different responsiveness. Different handling characteristics. etc. Would you eventually be able to figure it out? Probably, assuming that you 1) didn't wreck the car, 2) didn't wreck the engine/clutch/drivetrain, 3) weren't chased away by someone who loves the car.:)
I do agree with much of the rest of what you've said, but I'm not sure you necessarily need experts. You can also do usability tests (which might require experts to interpret the results).
To be linguistically correct, modern computers would be said to employ PUIs (Pictoral User Interfaces)
How is that linguistically correct? Linguistically speaking, words are, for the most part, completely arbitrary--onomatopoeia being the one near-exception. When we speak of what words mean, we speak of what they are generally accepted to mean. Language is by no means a stagnant entity; it evolves and changes over time. Thus, it is perfectly linguistically correct to refer to the user interfaces as graphical user interfaces.
Real Boys and Primal Teen are two books I'd recommend reading. They discuss the psychology of adolescent males and would probably be of great benefit to helping out a gifted, but socially-challenged, youth.
of course he wrote "would have" earlier in the post... he wouldn't form a contraction there: "I would've to say." It's less a matter of evolving language and more a matter of improper orthography...

those aren't eyes, those are tees.
so who goes to jail longer if personA breaks into personB's house and steals personB's pirated copy of movieC?
personA for breaking and entering and theft?
or personB for pirating a movie?
Best abuse of Princess Bride EVER!
