One of my old teachers had us waste some time on the 'internet', she even gave us some urls we could go to. Well one of them was whitehouse.com. I was wondering why it wasn't .gov. I look over to see student next to me that had duefully gone to the site. It was a porno site. Needless to say we didnt get to use the 'internet' much more in that class...

Work experience is not the same as a formal education. They supplement each other well, but in the work field there are many things that you wouldn't cover depending on what you do whereas you would have at least a general understanding of them with a cs degree. There's a reason that jobs want that cs degree.

Check your local colleges to see if any of the cs program there would allow you to clep the lower level tests or possibly give you some credit because of your work experience. I wouldn't expect to the get the CS degree in just 1 year unless your want to take an absurd number of hours. Another obstracle is that higher level courses are only offered in either the fall/spring or every other year. Best thing is to talk to the graduate advisor for cs at your nearest college. I know that at my university there are people getting masters in cs without getting the bachelors, of course those were people that have a bs in something like biology and realized they wanted to so something else for greed or just plain boredom.

As a high school student, I remember the first games to come out for the TI-85. Yeah I played them in classes when they were boring. I also had lots of fun programming on that TI-85. Me and my friends would see how could write the fastest, shortest math program. I got some programming experience on that calculator during boring math classes. With the calculator you can do some amazing things that would not be possible with just pencil and paper. Any teacher that is afraid of them and wants to take that away from their students is an utter fool.

As fair as puting the equations and notes in their calculator, when in real life as a programmer would you not look up something if you were unsure? Forcing the memozing of math formulas is counter productive and takes away from grading their ability to *USE* them instead of just spit them back at you with little thought. Physics courses that use calculus always give you the formulas. They don't rely on grading your ability to recall obsure equations, but to be able to use them correctly.

Right now basically the new .biz is just a tax on the successful .com companies that are having a hard enough time as it is. If they did get one, it would be to forward it to their .com address anyway. It might remove some of the cruft from .net though.

Perhaps in a few years when VC get eager to dump money around and new startups are made that will start with a .biz.

Look at the .tv that was bought for tv programs to use is basically a link to their .com if they have one at all.

I lived in the dorms 2 years ago. They sell a really cheap NIC, it was like $9. The only problem was that they didn't have or give us the drivers for it. I gave up after about 2 hours trying to get it to work, by bringing disks to the library to find the drivers. I managed to really fubar windows in the progress. I ended up formating and reinstalling. Then dropped the computer off to them to install and setup. Got it back the next day and it worked(bastards wouldn't give out the #$&^in driver disk so I could do it).

When I went to pick my computer up I watched them stick the cards in and use a drivers disk they wouldn't give us. They had LOTS and LOTS of computers to install because of this. They were working on computers for a good two weeks and regularly throughout the year when someone would get a new computer. Hopefully they are smart enough to provide a drivers disk with the NICs they sale this time around.

A month or so later, I had fun downloading a redhat iso from the local sunsite. It took me longer to burn it then to download it... =)
