Sure if EVERYTHING works OOTB and you don't ever update it, or want to do anything but surf? Then Linux is okay, but if anything goes wrong or an update takes a big shit on a driver? Then the user quickly gets dumped into shit town,where they will be told to "open up bash and type" a bunch of shit that almost NEVER works because they have hardware A, rev Foo and it was written for hardware A rev bar and Linux is picky as fuck about that. They will also find most "help" files with a "to do" place holder, if they can even find the fucking thing (I loved one Linux faithful that said if they don't know how to use Bash they should read the man page with it never crossing his little mind that if they don't know how to use Bash they won't know how to call up the fucking man page) that is.
A good 80%+ of Windows problems can be solved by start>all programs>system>system restore, no CLI BS required,if it doesn't boot? It can be easily solved with a simple system refresh that Windows will helpfully suggest on Win 8 and up. Of course if they want to get fancy they can push the rollback drivers button, which again Windows will suggest in later editions, and there is no place holders on the help button. Hell I could go on all day, from the hardware roulette (this works in distro Y but not X, or doesn't work at all, no way to tell without researching like it was a physics final as all the hardware lists are pathetically out of date) to the devs crapping on working code when it gets stable like its milk that has spoiled (KDE 3, Gnome 2, ALSA for the still brittle as fuck Pulse, and of course SystemD sucking up functions like Pacman) and replacing it with shit that isn't even alpha quality...but why bother?
As a Linux admin friend that suffered with Linux on his laptop for half a decade before giving up and getting a Macbook said "Linux desktops don't get any better, they just get different" and the fact that MSFT put out spyware instead of an OS with Win 10 and Linux STILL didn't gain shit? What server and workstation buyers DO care about is more threads, as a good 90% of their workloads are heavily parallel and if AMD can put out a 16 thread CPU for under $300 and if reports are correct a 64 thread workstation chip for under $500? Those are gonna sell like hotcakes for video/audio creation,data servers,render boxes, hell I could sit here all day listing roles where having that many threads (if the reports are true and we're looking at Skylake levels of performance) would be a huge selling point.
The reports so far is Zen is 40% faster than the fastest Piledriver chip (this puts it squarely in i5, possibly i7 territory) with the first two chips being a quad with HT and an octocore with HT. If they get 16 threads for under $250? those chips are gonna sell.
And do not forget they have a complete and total monopoly on the console market, with both the PS4 and XB1 being full AMD and reports that the new Nintendo NX will be AMD that is gonna give them a HUGE advantage over Nvidia in the gaming sector as every console game is gonna be optimized for their chips.

Actually? Most of them have at best equal and most of the time worse performance than what is in the regular free tech tree...I buy them because....well I like the whole "mad scientist" aspect of early WWII and like to support the developers of games that I enjoy.
Take for example the Australian planes in game, both of which I own, the CAC Wirraway and Boomerang. The Wirraway is IRL a trainer that they slapped some guns and bombs on as an emergency fighter, the Boomerang was a Wirraway that a Jewish refugee from Germany turned into a fighter. Both are slower than most of the planes at their tier, sure they are tough as trainers are meant to take abuse by novice pilots, but they are no powerhouses. So why did I get them, along with many other planes and tanks one would consider "challenging" to use like the Panzerbefelswagon IV? Because they ARE a challenge, it makes me feel great when I take down a supposedly "superior" vehicle in my premium, and...they're fun. It lets me support the devs while having fun, and isn't that what games should be about?
As for $1000 on a skin? You have to look at it in perspective. To you and I that would be an insane amount but to someone who makes 7 figures a year? That would be pocket change. I have met guys like that in the War thunder community, they have probably dropped a good $15K+ into the game...why? They like having every single plane and tank and they make enough money per year that $15K isn't shit to them. If you have that kind of money and that $1000 skin or whatever makes you happy? I see nothing wrong with it, anymore than I see anything wrong with owning all the vehicles in WT, as long as it makes them happy then they should enjoy it, just as I'll enjoy my derpy no armor Nb:Fz double barrel tank or my little Wirraway.

I can CONFIRM as it happened to a "granny box" I was planning on running WSUS Offline on, I had just hooked it to the wireless at the shop when I got a call my mom was rushed to the hospital, naturally I took off and completely forgot about the thing and when I got back I started stripping the parts off some rough looking Lenovo boxes and looking up what CPUs they can take and never thought about the system....until I heard its HDD grinding away and flipped the monitor on to see WTF was going on...and found a FULLY INSTALLED Windows 10 with the EULA staring me in the face. I of course declined and it managed to restore Win 7...only to be showing a countdown for Win 10 to install! I had to GWX Control Panel its ass to keep Win 10 from reinstalling.
If you read above and below me? Same exact pattern, found a fully installed Win 10 with EULA, declined, had to wait while it restored, only to have a countdown. There was NO interaction by me or anybody else, it was sitting in the corner with ONLY security updates set to install.
I've probably spent a couple hundred on War Thunder for planes and tanks, I don't see this as being really any different.
As for why I spent that money on the game as opposed to...say buying another piece of gear for my music or my PC? I already have what I need to do what I want, anything above that would just equal more clutter. As for why that particular game? I had 2 relatives that fought in WWII and I consider it one of the most fascinating periods when it comes to planes and tanks. While you can progress through the trees faster by using premiums for me I chose them simply because most are prototypes or planes that aren't as well known as the Mustang and FW190, like the Wirraway, the SMK double barrel heavy tank, or the Japanese Spitfire which came about when the IJA captured a squadron of Spitfire Mk IIa on Burma IIRC.
If these skins increase their enjoyment of the game they are playing? Then I say go for it. I personally couldn't see spending 4 figures on anything game related (most I ever spent was $29 to get a rare tank/plane combo pack) but when I've had a bad day and go home and see that CAC Wirraway in front of my hanger with "Lucky Lady" nose art I applied to it? It always makes me smile, and taking her into the air and dogfighting first gen BF109s and actually beating them? Always brightens my day. This makes it worth the money spent to me and if they feel the same with these knifes? More power to them, I hope it gives them endless hours of happiness.

Want some examples? Throwing away ALSA for Pulse which to this very day is the most BRITTLE component of any Linux install and most likely to break on upgrade/date, all the mainstream distros replacing the nice looking great running KDE 3 for KDE 4 when it wasn't even alpha quality, hell is it even gotten to 100% feature parity with the previous version yet? Ditto for Gnome 2 to gnome shell, and how could you forget Larry Potter and the ever spreading SystemD?
If the devs would just 1.- Quit ripping out functional system software, 2.- Focus on bug fixing and adding the latest hardware to the OOTB support? Frankly Linux could have opened up a can of whoop ass when Win "Oh Hai I'm a smartphone OS LULZ" 8 came out but it has never and will never happen because Linux worst enemy is its own developers.
Its a broken clusterfucked POS is what it is. I installed Win 10 on nearly a dozen systems made in the past 6 years just to see what kind of shit I would have to be dealing with, these systems were due to be wiped anyway and I figured they would be a perfect test bench to let me see what will happen when some of my customers come in after getting "Win 10'd"...what did I find when I let MSFT "upgrade" these systems?
1.-Broken sound, 2.-broken networking, which frankly is a Godsend when that happens because if the networking DOES work MSFT slamming a dozen pages worth of phone home spyware down your pipe honestly slowed the network responsiveness WORSE than a "Secure Tool" infection, 3.-the dozen pages of spyware also slows the system down thanks to all the background shit running, 4.- the UI is every bit as much of a mess as Win 8, sure it has a start menu but once you try to do anything beyond passively use FB and start trying to tweak shit? You find its got settings splattered all over the place, hidden, and a bitch and a half just to find basic things, 5.- the drivers? A FUCKING JOKE, the Win 10 drivers are beyond barebone and basic (not to mention unstable as hell) and unlike Win 7/8 where it was pretty trivial to use previous drivers Win 10 will just become about as stable as WinME...
Hell I could go on all day, and please note that NONE of these systems were some old XP era junk, the oldest was a 6 year old C2D laptop that came with Win 7 and had 4GB of RAM, ALL of these systems were multicores, ALL of these systems had at least 4GB of RAM, hell to give Win 10 the benefit of the doubt I even popped in a spare SSD I had lying around into my own system that is less than a year old and let it "upgrade" a disc image of my Win 7 to Win 10....we are talking about a fricking octocore with 16Gb of RAM, SSD, R9 280 GPU and even with all that hardware it STILL was buggier and ran worse overall than the Win 7 I had installed, and this was after manually installing the latest Win 10 drivers for every piece of hardware!
The ONLY nice thing I can say about Win 10 is guys like me are making plenty of extra $$$ removing the "upgrade" after folks find it worse than what they had.

Sure if EVERYTHING works OOTB and you don't ever update it, or want to do anything but surf? Then Linux is okay, but if anything goes wrong or an update takes a big shit on a driver? Then the user quickly gets dumped into shit town,where they will be told to "open up bash and type" a bunch of shit that almost NEVER works because they have hardware A, rev Foo and it was written for hardware A rev bar and Linux is picky as fuck about that. They will also find most "help" files with a "to do" place holder, if they can even find the fucking thing (I loved one Linux faithful that said if they don't know how to use Bash they should read the man page with it never crossing his little mind that if they don't know how to use Bash they won't know how to call up the fucking man page) that is.
A good 80%+ of Windows problems can be solved by start>all programs>system>system restore, no CLI BS required,if it doesn't boot? It can be easily solved with a simple system refresh that Windows will helpfully suggest on Win 8 and up. Of course if they want to get fancy they can push the rollback drivers button, which again Windows will suggest in later editions, and there is no place holders on the help button. Hell I could go on all day, from the hardware roulette (this works in distro Y but not X, or doesn't work at all, no way to tell without researching like it was a physics final as all the hardware lists are pathetically out of date) to the devs crapping on working code when it gets stable like its milk that has spoiled (KDE 3, Gnome 2, ALSA for the still brittle as fuck Pulse, and of course SystemD sucking up functions like Pacman) and replacing it with shit that isn't even alpha quality...but why bother?
As a Linux admin friend that suffered with Linux on his laptop for half a decade before giving up and getting a Macbook said "Linux desktops don't get any better, they just get different" and the fact that MSFT put out spyware instead of an OS with Win 10 and Linux STILL didn't gain shit? What server and workstation buyers DO care about is more threads, as a good 90% of their workloads are heavily parallel and if AMD can put out a 16 thread CPU for under $300 and if reports are correct a 64 thread workstation chip for under $500? Those are gonna sell like hotcakes for video/audio creation,data servers,render boxes, hell I could sit here all day listing roles where having that many threads (if the reports are true and we're looking at Skylake levels of performance) would be a huge selling point.
The reports so far is Zen is 40% faster than the fastest Piledriver chip (this puts it squarely in i5, possibly i7 territory) with the first two chips being a quad with HT and an octocore with HT. If they get 16 threads for under $250? those chips are gonna sell.
And do not forget they have a complete and total monopoly on the console market, with both the PS4 and XB1 being full AMD and reports that the new Nintendo NX will be AMD that is gonna give them a HUGE advantage over Nvidia in the gaming sector as every console game is gonna be optimized for their chips.

You are correct, planes like the Wirraway and Tuck's Gladiator, or tanks like the SD.KFZ. 140/1 and Panzer III N? Are NOT giving me a "competitive advantage" and in fact can be quite a challenge to compete with compared to the regular vehicles....but ya know what they DO have? FUN, they are fun to drive or fly, and I have fun when I whip them out and take them into battle.

Actually? Most of them have at best equal and most of the time worse performance than what is in the regular free tech tree...I buy them because....well I like the whole "mad scientist" aspect of early WWII and like to support the developers of games that I enjoy.
Take for example the Australian planes in game, both of which I own, the CAC Wirraway and Boomerang. The Wirraway is IRL a trainer that they slapped some guns and bombs on as an emergency fighter, the Boomerang was a Wirraway that a Jewish refugee from Germany turned into a fighter. Both are slower than most of the planes at their tier, sure they are tough as trainers are meant to take abuse by novice pilots, but they are no powerhouses. So why did I get them, along with many other planes and tanks one would consider "challenging" to use like the Panzerbefelswagon IV? Because they ARE a challenge, it makes me feel great when I take down a supposedly "superior" vehicle in my premium, and...they're fun. It lets me support the devs while having fun, and isn't that what games should be about?
As for $1000 on a skin? You have to look at it in perspective. To you and I that would be an insane amount but to someone who makes 7 figures a year? That would be pocket change. I have met guys like that in the War thunder community, they have probably dropped a good $15K+ into the game...why? They like having every single plane and tank and they make enough money per year that $15K isn't shit to them. If you have that kind of money and that $1000 skin or whatever makes you happy? I see nothing wrong with it, anymore than I see anything wrong with owning all the vehicles in WT, as long as it makes them happy then they should enjoy it, just as I'll enjoy my derpy no armor Nb:Fz double barrel tank or my little Wirraway.

I can CONFIRM as it happened to a "granny box" I was planning on running WSUS Offline on, I had just hooked it to the wireless at the shop when I got a call my mom was rushed to the hospital, naturally I took off and completely forgot about the thing and when I got back I started stripping the parts off some rough looking Lenovo boxes and looking up what CPUs they can take and never thought about the system....until I heard its HDD grinding away and flipped the monitor on to see WTF was going on...and found a FULLY INSTALLED Windows 10 with the EULA staring me in the face. I of course declined and it managed to restore Win 7...only to be showing a countdown for Win 10 to install! I had to GWX Control Panel its ass to keep Win 10 from reinstalling.
If you read above and below me? Same exact pattern, found a fully installed Win 10 with EULA, declined, had to wait while it restored, only to have a countdown. There was NO interaction by me or anybody else, it was sitting in the corner with ONLY security updates set to install.
I've probably spent a couple hundred on War Thunder for planes and tanks, I don't see this as being really any different.
As for why I spent that money on the game as opposed to...say buying another piece of gear for my music or my PC? I already have what I need to do what I want, anything above that would just equal more clutter. As for why that particular game? I had 2 relatives that fought in WWII and I consider it one of the most fascinating periods when it comes to planes and tanks. While you can progress through the trees faster by using premiums for me I chose them simply because most are prototypes or planes that aren't as well known as the Mustang and FW190, like the Wirraway, the SMK double barrel heavy tank, or the Japanese Spitfire which came about when the IJA captured a squadron of Spitfire Mk IIa on Burma IIRC.
If these skins increase their enjoyment of the game they are playing? Then I say go for it. I personally couldn't see spending 4 figures on anything game related (most I ever spent was $29 to get a rare tank/plane combo pack) but when I've had a bad day and go home and see that CAC Wirraway in front of my hanger with "Lucky Lady" nose art I applied to it? It always makes me smile, and taking her into the air and dogfighting first gen BF109s and actually beating them? Always brightens my day. This makes it worth the money spent to me and if they feel the same with these knifes? More power to them, I hope it gives them endless hours of happiness.

I will be happy to, the "hassle that Linux brings" is VERY simple and completely self inflicted by the very devs that work on the thing...you see every time it starts getting stable they shit on the OS and send it back several years. this is why MSFT doesn't have to worry about Linux as the Bizarro devs will break the thing the second it starts looking like a real competitor!
Want some examples? Throwing away ALSA for Pulse which to this very day is the most BRITTLE component of any Linux install and most likely to break on upgrade/date, all the mainstream distros replacing the nice looking great running KDE 3 for KDE 4 when it wasn't even alpha quality, hell is it even gotten to 100% feature parity with the previous version yet? Ditto for Gnome 2 to gnome shell, and how could you forget Larry Potter and the ever spreading SystemD?
If the devs would just 1.- Quit ripping out functional system software, 2.- Focus on bug fixing and adding the latest hardware to the OOTB support? Frankly Linux could have opened up a can of whoop ass when Win "Oh Hai I'm a smartphone OS LULZ" 8 came out but it has never and will never happen because Linux worst enemy is its own developers.
Its a broken clusterfucked POS is what it is. I installed Win 10 on nearly a dozen systems made in the past 6 years just to see what kind of shit I would have to be dealing with, these systems were due to be wiped anyway and I figured they would be a perfect test bench to let me see what will happen when some of my customers come in after getting "Win 10'd"...what did I find when I let MSFT "upgrade" these systems?
1.-Broken sound, 2.-broken networking, which frankly is a Godsend when that happens because if the networking DOES work MSFT slamming a dozen pages worth of phone home spyware down your pipe honestly slowed the network responsiveness WORSE than a "Secure Tool" infection, 3.-the dozen pages of spyware also slows the system down thanks to all the background shit running, 4.- the UI is every bit as much of a mess as Win 8, sure it has a start menu but once you try to do anything beyond passively use FB and start trying to tweak shit? You find its got settings splattered all over the place, hidden, and a bitch and a half just to find basic things, 5.- the drivers? A FUCKING JOKE, the Win 10 drivers are beyond barebone and basic (not to mention unstable as hell) and unlike Win 7/8 where it was pretty trivial to use previous drivers Win 10 will just become about as stable as WinME...
Hell I could go on all day, and please note that NONE of these systems were some old XP era junk, the oldest was a 6 year old C2D laptop that came with Win 7 and had 4GB of RAM, ALL of these systems were multicores, ALL of these systems had at least 4GB of RAM, hell to give Win 10 the benefit of the doubt I even popped in a spare SSD I had lying around into my own system that is less than a year old and let it "upgrade" a disc image of my Win 7 to Win 10....we are talking about a fricking octocore with 16Gb of RAM, SSD, R9 280 GPU and even with all that hardware it STILL was buggier and ran worse overall than the Win 7 I had installed, and this was after manually installing the latest Win 10 drivers for every piece of hardware!
The ONLY nice thing I can say about Win 10 is guys like me are making plenty of extra $$$ removing the "upgrade" after folks find it worse than what they had.
