Hell look at memory stick, NAND flash is just ridiculously cheap, with an 8Gb USB going for $6 and a class 10 SDHC for $7, yet Sony still charges just insulting prices for memory stick instead of licensing it under RAND so that there will be plenty. that is nothing but giving the finger to the very people they need to keep, their customers. personally I'm glad Sony is bleeding money and maybe if they sell off Sony music they'll go back to designing good products again.

I figured the translation on the original was pretty spotty, hell in those days pretty much ALL Jap games were translated badly until it made some serious coin then they would hire better translators for the next in the series. I loved the hell out of the Phantasy Star series, going so far as shelling out $100 on release day (which was crazy money then) for a copy of "generations of doom". A truly great series and anybody that hasn't played them don't know what a rich gaming experience they are missing, one of the top notch Japanese RPG series bar none.
But WHY would it be so expensive? See here is what I've never gotten, and maybe I'm missing something but we've had smart cards for a pretty damned long time, so why not use them? Put a 512bit key, one for each person in America and hand them out with a USB reader, one per household. This would also allow pretty much any library to be a voting booth as well for those that don't have net access. Hell you wanna get super duper secure hand out a live CD designed to be booted to and to run ONLY the program that connects with the smart card and offer a disc image that will let those of us with netbooks the ability to use a USB stick.

For a couple of good ones many may not have played (not as old as TFA though) head over to GOG and check out Sacred and Divine Divinity. Huge worlds, tons of missions and subquests that you can do pretty much in any order you like, pretty fun.

I don't know about the AC dude (never post AC myself as i stand by my words) but i'll be happy to give you mine since I'm using yahoo (which like DDG is using the Bing backend) and they are, in no particular order, 1.-SEOs haven't figured out how to spam Bing as badly as Google so less crap results, 2.- Double quotes still seem to work, with Google it still "helps" you whether you want the help or not, 3.- better search results for product reviews, anything with review in it is spammed pretty heavily by the SEOs with Google, and 4.-Since I'm not using any other of MSFT's online services there really isn't anything for them to mine other than searches. While I mainly use gmail as a spam dump i still didn't care for their creeping policy changes.
So there you have it, as you can see there are some legitimate reasons for using one over the other. Oh and I might add i like the yahoo UI better, but that's a personal taste thing so i didn't add that to the main list. Try it, you might like it, its been nearly 3 years since i switched over full time and when I do use Google now i'm always jarred by how it just doesn't quite "work right" for wont of a better word.

Should have tried either Avast or Comodo IS (have been using Avast but recently switched back to Comodo as i like their terms better and they don't pop up crap like Avast does) as both of those have really nice sandboxing. Comodo goes one further if you'd like by tying into Comodo SecureDNS (which you can optionally have only run on Comodo Dragon in case you like your local DNS for gaming) and I've found that with a combo of Win 7 with ASLR and DEP along with Dragon sandboxing by the AV its pretty damned hard to infect a system. i know because i tried, i sent it to every crapsite and "look at teh tittiez!" topsite and garbage site i could find, then followed that with a half a dozen offline and online scanners and...nothing. Zilch zip nada squat bumpkiss. Which when you've got customers that can pick up more viruses than a Bangkok whore on coupon day is really damned helpful. Knock on wood but I haven't had to clean a single bug off anyone that is using that system and it takes less than 15 minutes to implement. Put a 512bit key, one for each person in America and hand them out with a USB reader, one per household. Hell you wanna get super duper secure hand out a live CD designed to be booted to and to run ONLY the program that connects with the smart card and offer a disc image that will let those of us with netbooks the ability to use a USB stick.
I don't think the problem is it can't be done, after all we got to the moon with computers less powerful than the average $10 cell phone, I think the real problems is to the PTBs having more people voting is a giant DO NOT WANT. As for TFA, anybody remember "Eye of the Beholder"? Or the original Phantasy Star? Those were the games that got me into RPGs. I'll probably get hate for daring to say so but two of the most beloved series i never did get, syndicate and fallout. I don't know why but those games just left me cold. For a couple of good ones many may not have played (not as old as TFA though) head over to GOG and check out Sacred and Divine Divinity. Huge worlds, tons of missions and subquests that you can do pretty much in any order you like, pretty fun.

So please explain how MSFT can magically pwn any machine, cut through any firewall, and blast through any router and please provide links because i'd like to see that magic trick myself, i bet its a doozy.
I don't know about the AC dude (never post AC myself as i stand by my words) but i'll be happy to give you mine since I'm using yahoo (which like DDG is using the Bing backend) and they are, in no particular order, 1.-SEOs haven't figured out how to spam Bing as badly as Google so less crap results, 2.- Double quotes still seem to work, with Google it still "helps" you whether you want the help or not, 3.- better search results for product reviews, anything with review in it is spammed pretty heavily by the SEOs with Google, and 4.-Since I'm not using any other of MSFT's online services there really isn't anything for them to mine other than searches. While I mainly use gmail as a spam dump i still didn't care for their creeping policy changes.
So there you have it, as you can see there are some legitimate reasons for using one over the other. Oh and I might add i like the yahoo UI better, but that's a personal taste thing so i didn't add that to the main list. Try it, you might like it, its been nearly 3 years since i switched over full time and when I do use Google now i'm always jarred by how it just doesn't quite "work right" for wont of a better word.
Product models...ohh that one royally pissed me off and is why i went to yahoo in the first place as Google tries to be "helpful" and will often mangle product models. I'd be looking for someone that had experience with some part and get a bunch of crap and sure enough google had "helped' by picking what IT thought was what i was looking for which of course wasn't even close. It must be doing this based on some popularity scale because i'd tried to look for say the HD4850 and it'd give me the HD4770, which was the more popular (and rare as a damned hen's tooth) model in that series. boy that shit pissed me off! Now with yahoo they don't do that, they'll give you the search with EXACTLY what you put and put an option to the side to switch to what they think it was or somethings they'll put both with the "misspelling" at the top of the results. THAT I can live with, but just quit with the "helping" already!

Google) but sadly it works with pretty much ANY word, no matter if its made up or not, as long as you put "Cheapest price" "review" or "preview" into the search as the SEOs spambomb the living hell out of those phrases. Google has pretty much become worthless for any kind of product reviewing anymore, they are easy enough to spot as they will have strings of gibberish under the link like "coffee chevy amd intel" etc etc etc. its obvious they are using some sort of keyword generator to just crank out these long lists of keyword crap and somehow have managed to get it passed the google mod system, at least as of 3 days ago when i last tried Google. Google then fixes the problem, which lasts maybe a week, sometimes as little as 2 days, then its right back to SEO spam.
In a way i feel sorry for Google, as what they are having happen to them is what happened to yahoo and Atlavista back in the day that caused people to switch to Google in the first place. I remember back in the days of the early MSN search we'd use it for a joke, you could type in "dog" and get everything from decorating to disco balls, it was obvious that whomever was writing the spam script was merely using the first letter of the search. now they are simply incorporating your search into these long strings of random crap designed to get you to their site which ironically often times has a Google adsense page parked. Should have tried either Avast or Comodo IS (have been using Avast but recently switched back to Comodo as i like their terms better and they don't pop up crap like Avast does) as both of those have really nice sandboxing. Comodo goes one further if you'd like by tying into Comodo SecureDNS (which you can optionally have only run on Comodo Dragon in case you like your local DNS for gaming) and I've found that with a combo of Win 7 with ASLR and DEP along with Dragon sandboxing by the AV its pretty damned hard to infect a system. i know because i tried, i sent it to every crapsite and "look at teh tittiez!" topsite and garbage site i could find, then followed that with a half a dozen offline and online scanners and...nothing. Zilch zip nada squat bumpkiss. Which when you've got customers that can pick up more viruses than a Bangkok whore on coupon day is really damned helpful. Knock on wood but I haven't had to clean a single bug off anyone that is using that system and it takes less than 15 minutes to implement. But if you want one that is completely idiot proof Comodo also has Time Machine which makes a hidden snapshot store so if they DO somehow manage to find a way to screw something up you can just have them push the home key at boot and have it fixed in under 20 minutes, nice.

BTW you might want to give Comodo SecureDNS a spin as i've been trying my damnedest to infect a machine i plan on wiping while using SecureDNS and so far it hasn't let shit through, not a single malware site or infected ad has made it past them. i bet if you combined it with your HOSTS file you'd probably have greater than 98% protection. I know it integrated nicely with my recursive DNS and actually gave me about a 12% speed boost when it came to lookup speed and its 100% free, pretty nice. Oh and just FYI but if you haven't done so you really ought to sign up for the Tigerdirect emails, they are letting their thuban X6 chips go for like $109 as long as stocks last but only through their email coupons. I snatched one up and its a transcoding monster with more OCing headroom than I've ever seen in a chip, I managed to get up to 3.4GHz without raising volts until I thought "WTF do I need the extra speed for? its already a monster" and dropped it back down. Pair it with an Asrock board and a Hyper n520 and you have a fricking badass PC for less than the cost of building a Pentium G series PC. Actually i'd say that both Bing and Yahoo (I personally prefer the UI of Yahoo) really IS better, simply because all the SEOs have been playing whack a mole with Google's search results. i don';t know how many times i did a search on Google and got one SEO'd spampage after another, look up things like reviews or previews and see how many sites instantly have reviews for even made up words like "fleegal fins". The SEOs have been figuring out google's games quicker than Google can respond so naturally their searches has suffered as a result. its just a variation of security through obscurity, in this case functionality through obscurity. It doesn't mean MSFT has found some secret sauce, its just they aren't getting pimp slapped like google is by the SEOs that's all.
Its the "heightened respect for local country laws" that has me worried here, as i wouldn't put it past the US gov to try to backdoor some nice great firewall of USA style crap for their corporate masters.
