You've not mentioned one reason why you prefer.NET. Please state why you think.NET is better, and if so, for which type of projects.
I have never used.NET, but have used Java, and J2EE for several years. I see many drawbacks in the J2EE 'system' (even at ver 2.0)... lack of ability to extend entity beans, weaknesses of EJB-QL, and the lack of control over query capability.

So what if they have copied lines from Linux ? Comments and all ?
How are you they going to prove that they were there first ? It is in the public domain when anything appears in Linux... but what about their codebase ? Since its secret, who can independently verify it ?
Damn right it isnt a full J2EE. It doesnt even try to be. It handles servlets and JSP and that is all it is ever intended to handle. A J2EE server handles SO MUCH more... transactions, EJB container, JMS, Mail, etc, etc.
The 'solution' would be to have a flag on the Java being used (in the compiler, and JDK) which signifies the standard... so you could have a 'simple' to represent the subset used upto and including JDK1.4, and 'advanced' above that. That way you could teach 'basic' Java in your courses at Uni etc, and still allow the features that programmers in the industry need to use.
Well it could be argued that a way to focus attention is to 'code to standards' and point senior management's attention to the fact that certain browsers are better at standards than others and so the best way to write your company's web system is to code to a 'standard' or at the very least a subset of that standard so it is understood by all browsers to a level.
If you just follow blindly the idea that 9*% of the public use IE so we should work to their 'capability' you end up feeding the MS monopoly. Believe me, it IS possible to change opinions if you push them slowly in the right direction
Except that many banks (DeutscheBank, Credit Suisse, Meryl Lynch, etc) are using Linux themselves now internally. Deploying their own customer banking sites on MS would not make sense... as the financial arguments had already pointed them down the route of taking up Linux technology.
Only problem with your (and others) stats is that many browsers allow spoofing to appear like something else. I often have to set up Konqueror to say that it is "IE5.5" since there are some very strange sites out there that 'decide' that they will not be viewable with browsers other than IE.
When I develop sites, and I've been doing this for 6 years+, I develop using HTML standard... not IE specific.
What nonsense ! I know americans think they are the centre of the universe but having their post office controlling email for the world.... hahahahahaha.
I see that the website is either in French or American. Perhaps they ought to recognise that the language is actually english. Clicking on an American flag doesnt really figure in my thought process... I'd probably rather read it in French than American for that matter;-)
Well the only problem with statistics like these is that they hide the browsers that are passing "Microsoft 5.5" or some such crap so as to get the site to display on that browser. I use Konq and have to put this nonsense in to cater for the braindead webmonkeys who wrote the braindead sites on the net.
You don't live in London right ? Well if you did you'd understand why they want to introduce this. People just using their cars for convenience rather than walking the 5 mins to the nearest tube station and using public transport. If you drive into central London, you won't get parked so why do it ? So you can park your car in a bus lane with the hazard warning lights on and screw up the public transport system ?
Lets raise the charge to £50 and then you should even start to put off the BMW drivers and eliminate your comment about something for the rich.
They do provide public transport that is cheaper than driving... its a Metro card for 1 day and it costs £4.40.
If you've ever been in central London you'll know why they are doing it. The only valid reasons for driving there is for deliveries... to visit a particular shop is NOT a reason. The only problem that they havent approached is the knock on effect of people abandoning their cars to use the public transport (as if that is ever likely to happen). The metro is already overcrowded, so if all car drivers jumped on the metro as well, they'd overcrowd it even more !!
Lets wait and see what happens.... but again, a good idea in principle that hasnt been thought through to conclusion. Governmentary bodies in the UK are good at that;-)
Agree with the points about the look of games, just fyi there IS a scrabble game for Linux... xscrabble http://www.sslug.dk/linuxbog/applikationer/bog/xsc rabble.html
I was in Spain for the duration of the World Cup... and they took it very seriously. The TV coverage was so biased it was unreal. They focus on the Spanish team each night, and mention for 1 minute their next opponents... with nothing about the other teams in the competition. Then one night one of the TV stations mentioned in their report that their were still 6 other teams in the competition... WHAT ??? WHERE DID THEY COME FROM ????
I'll agree when the 4.2.0 release of X is out and they have fixed the problem with the Radeon M6 on laptops. Until that time, i'll reserve judgement - the radeon dumps out of X with an error to find panel size with 4.1.0

2.4.20 has DRM re-merged with XFree 4.2.0 ... and about time too !! When will it be released ?
Nice for them to release drivers and all, but they dont provide anything for laptop versions of any cards.
