After your President failed to endorse the Kyoto agreement, the US has done nothing but pollute the environment and show no sign of taking the responsibility for this attitude. Global warming is showing signs all around us and still your nation does nothing. You have no public transport strategy, you all use your gas-guzzling cars to drive small distances, and your policy on clean energy is non-existent.

Can you make the difference and take a lead on these issues to generate more respect for your country ?

There would be accidents on the footpath as Segways crash into people minding their own business. There is a reason why bikes are banned from footpaths - they must stick to the road for a start. 16. Re:Good for them on French Government Bans Term 'E-Mail' · · Score: 1

Spanish speaking countries have an Academy to control the language yet have only resisted the use of terms up to a point. The pressure from the people has an effect there. They don't use "correo electronico" and use Email instead. They have many English type words in their language, but usually adapt the spelling to fit their rules of pronunciation (mitin = meeting). Use of Spanish in Latin America is even more anglicised than in Spain.

The French take things to the largest extreme of the other languages - the others adapt.

... but if you choose the XML/XSL option, be aware of the performance hit (relative to servlet/JSP) that you can take depending on your pages content.

  18. Re:Servlets vs. JSP for HTML output on JSP and Tag Libraries for Web Development · · Score: 5, Insightful

actually there is little or no difference. It is not 'smarter' to use JSP, just personal preference. Think of it like this ... JSP is basically HTML with Java embedded, whereas servlet is Java with HTML embedded. What do you prefer to edit is a suitable question.

As for the 'println' point with servlets, you can wrap all those calls up into java objects. So for example if you want a HTML table, you could wrap it up in a Table object, and add rows, columns using Java, and then have a method on the table class that is toHTML(). You could even add a method toXML() etc etc. Look at the WebUtils library if you want one example that does this.

One possible benefit of JSP is allowing you to have a web-designer write the pages. The only thing here is that they need to be familiar with some JSP to plug in the use of beans and get methods to populate the values in pages. A lot of projects embed *a lot* of java in pages and this removes this possible advantage.

There are many arguments I've heard from people about JSP being better etc, but it really comes down to what you and your company/project team are comfortable with.
