Its not exactly build-in equipment... i've got one. It is about 8inch long, 2 inch high, and 2 inch deep - so can sit on a bookshelf very easily.
Its other benefit, being written in Perl and OpenSource, there are plugins available to display all sorts of things on the display while you're listening to MP3's... news sites, stock quotes, weather, horoscope etc.
So you're implying that I ought to install Windows (to use MSN because it isn't available for Linux) just to keep in touch with *a few* people who use that proprietary IM protocol ? When hell freezes over. There are other ways of keeping in touch with them... like suggesting they use Yahoo (who make the effort to provide a Linux client, even though Gaim and Kopete will both work with it fine as well), or just use emaiul with them.
Georgy where do you stand on the environment ? After your President failed to endorse the Kyoto agreement, the US has done nothing but pollute the environment and show no sign of taking the responsibility for this attitude. Global warming is showing signs all around us and still your nation does nothing. You have no public transport strategy, you all use your gas-guzzling cars to drive small distances, and your policy on clean energy is non-existent.
Can you make the difference and take a lead on these issues to generate more respect for your country ?
Georgy, evidence actually shows that if children use marijuana once a month from the age of 13, they will NEVER achieve their potential. How can you justify your stance on weed given this FACT ?
Scanners - install automatically with Mandrake 9.1. CD burners... installed automatically with k3b. Graphics... no problem, automatic. By the way, I had no need to put a CD in either:-)
What will be worse with Segways all over ?... well people would get fatter still due to the lack of the little exercise that they do get. There would be accidents on the footpath as Segways crash into people minding their own business. There is a reason why bikes are banned from footpaths - they must stick to the road for a start. I'd advocate having cycle lane facilities in big cities and Segways - THAT WOULD be a* good thing*
The NEX II is made by Frontier Labs... never heard of Victory. It uses CF cards and normal AA batteries, giving battery life of up to 20 hours. Works as a normal USB drive
worth pointing out the additional power consumption of a Microdrive. For example in a NEX IIe MP3 player the Microdrive would give 4 or 5 times less battery life than use of a Compact Flash.
of publicising one persons game engine on Slashdot when you have a release site called Freshmeat. This is version ermmmm.... errmmm... 0.5. So you publicise it ? Fair enough a release 1.0 or 2.0 of a major piece of software. I would really like to see the Slashdot policy of publicising software releases.
I remember when doing a search on Amazon for "Database Admin" returned the number 1 response of "The fine art of vaginal fisting" and the reviews that it prompted... pushing this book up into the top 100 bestsellers. Now what would the ability to read some text from books do;-)
Spanish speaking countries have an Academy to control the language yet have only resisted the use of terms up to a point. The pressure from the people has an effect there. They don't use "correo electronico" and use Email instead. They have many English type words in their language, but usually adapt the spelling to fit their rules of pronunciation (mitin = meeting). Use of Spanish in Latin America is even more anglicised than in Spain.
The French take things to the largest extreme of the other languages - the others adapt.
actually there is little or no difference. It is not 'smarter' to use JSP, just personal preference. Think of it like this... JSP is basically HTML with Java embedded, whereas servlet is Java with HTML embedded. What do you prefer to edit is a suitable question.
As for the 'println' point with servlets, you can wrap all those calls up into java objects. So for example if you want a HTML table, you could wrap it up in a Table object, and add rows, columns using Java, and then have a method on the table class that is toHTML(). You could even add a method toXML() etc etc. Look at the WebUtils library if you want one example that does this.
One possible benefit of JSP is allowing you to have a web-designer write the pages. The only thing here is that they need to be familiar with some JSP to plug in the use of beans and get methods to populate the values in pages. A lot of projects embed *a lot* of java in pages and this removes this possible advantage.
There are many arguments I've heard from people about JSP being better etc, but it really comes down to what you and your company/project team are comfortable with.
Moreover, whats the point in putting this as a news item on Slashdot ? Is it so radical ? Its old technology... save it for something that really changes the interface.
is newsworthy as its a desktop, but I see that people wanting Mandrake dont get a reduction in the overall price even though the Mandrake pack costs less than XP. Oh well its a start.
Yese I DO prefer NORMAL AA batteries to a lithium ion battery that you have to carry around a recharger for etc. I can share NORMAL batteries with other devices... I cant do that with Lithium Ion. I can buy them in many places, I cant do that with Lithium Ion. I actually get the order of 20 (or more) hours of use out of a pair of AA with the NEX IIe.... more than I've seen with any Li-Ion.
Frontier Labs have likewise stated that they will be supporting Ogg very soon. The Neuros looks nice but it doesnt fulfil ALL of what I need a). Uses normal AA rechargeable batteries b). Compact Flash, so I can interchange with digital camera and have sizes the order of 500Mb
it does the first part, but not the second - but congrats on supporting Ogg

How many people can say they have an astronaut friend ?
she'll fall off.

The BBC articles are simply a digested version of a 'real' article published in medical journals ... if that isn't 'valid' for you the too bad.
Here's a few links to back up what I stated

There was also a study of about a year ago in the UK which came out with data about people not realising their potential.

... but if you choose the XML/XSL option, be aware of the performance hit (relative to servlet/JSP) that you can take depending on your pages content.

So why does this get a "5 Insightful" exactly ? It is basically incorrect
> Me: New operating system just like wind ...
What ? You mean farting is an operating system all of its own ? I hope its OpenSource'd.
