  1. Re:Are they kidding? on Apple Sued over Tiger, Injunction Sought · · Score: 1

    You must have forgot to read number one in my previous post. Please re-read that. Just because damage may not be done yet, doesn't mean it will not be done in the future. Now is the proper time to work this out in court, and to stand by their trademark if they're ever going to do it.

    And if anything, more people searching for Tiger or derivatives will lead to more people coming to Tiger Direct (someone I had never heard of before today).

    You may be right here. :) It could go either way really. I've actually heard of them before, but never bought from them.

  2. Re:Are they kidding? on Apple Sued over Tiger, Injunction Sought · · Score: 1

    It's not stealing of words, it's possible loss of business, and if you read something about trademark law you'd know that trademarks are usually industry based. Since Tiger Direct could arguably be in the same industry as Apple, they may have a legitimate claim that damage will be done. If they lose search engine placement to other stores selling Mac OS Tiger, or to Apple itself, then they are being damaged.

    I'm not taking sides, but this claim is understandable.

  3. Re:Are they kidding? on Apple Sued over Tiger, Injunction Sought · · Score: 1

    Well a couple things you are forgetting here:

    1) Mac OS Tiger will become much more prevalent in the search results after release.

    2) Searching for 'tiger' alone isn't going to prove much. A better example might be 'tiger software'. Or other combinations of words that Apple might steal from them. I think you can definitely expect to see Apple creeping up in the searching rankings, and causing problems from Tiger Direct as many of their search keywords are the same.

    I've watched those classics, and they suck. :) Maybe if you're a girl, over 50, gay, or an English/Art major they might be good. I think those movies are called classics, because society has carried on a nostalgia about them.

    That said, there are plenty of gorey/violent/explicit movies these days that suck. I think this problem is working itself out as people become desensitized to the explicit material, and realize they need a good story as well. I say let the artist create what they want. Time will tell whether the movie is worth a damn or not.

    You sure about that? I would imagine that MS would have an API accessing the graphics components, and that they would just need to change the back-end of the API. It seems far more likely that the backwards compatability problem will come from using a PowerPC chip which uses different machine code than an x86 chip, and would require all games to be recompiled/changed. I think that says it all about this. There's no way he can train for 50 students papers from just a paper he writes. Until we can see really accurate computer translations of languages, I don't trust this kind of software. (And don't tell me the translate deals on the web are good, because they miss out on a lot of stuff.) Here's my idea of how his program grades the papers:

    srand;
    my $grade = rand(100);
    print "Your grade is: $grade \%.\n";
    Either that or
    # $number_of_keywords_stuff done here.
    srand;
    my $grade = 50 + rand($number_of_keywords_found);
    print "Your grade is: $grade \%.\n";
    :) I'd rather see the prof get some grad students working on the papers. Although some would argue that the code I wrote above might be more accurate. ;)

That way we don't have to deal with all the time zones, and when an event is advertised as being at 3:00pm, you don't have to calculate what time zone it is in, whether the person has daylight savings time or not, and whether the moon is in the 5th phase of the Zinonian Calendar. (Ok, so it isn't that bad. ;)) I have a feeling most people wouldn't be able to handle the "difficult" calculation of how long they work when they go to work at 23:00 and end at 07:00.

    Something like Linux's swappiness parameter in Windows would be great for me. (I have 2 gigs of ram.) I can pretty much guarantee that most of the data in my 1.5 gigs of system cache is useless. I would much rather have no swapping, and reduce the size of that, and my available memory.
