My first question to everyone: Why can't a company be both a hardware AND a software company?

This leads to the disadvantage of having a limited and more costly hardware base, but that is why Apple products "just work".

Why does knowing your hardware make the hardware more expensive?

It seems to me that the reason Apple hardware is more expensive is that only Apple makes Apple hardware. If there were some competition they would become cheaper. I think it might be safe to say Apple also tests their hardware but I doubt they test it anymore than Asus, Intel, AMD, MSI, or whatever. So most of the quality control goes into software. But then do they test it anymore than Adobe or Macromedia or what have you? They have a very limited set of hardware to test on as opposed to those companies who test their software on lots of different hardware. So that means they have actually less testing to do. And since they know the hardware (as they made it) they can optimize. So hardware is more expensive because of lack of competition, software is less expensive because of less testing.

So you are paying for a complete experience. Which I can get from Dell or something similar. So you are paying for what exactly?

If any of this is wrong let me know. I like Apple, but the only reason I see it as more expensive is because there is a subset of the population that is willing to pay for "more expensive".

I passed out once and had a very long dream. My mind created the backstories of all the people involved in the dream including a lot of sensations (sight, sound, touch, smell, etc.). So a computer can "remember" more things because it can write it down and then look it up later? I do that all the time and thus can remember all sorts of things. That's very impressive of a computer. Also as said by another poster, computers have not as yet learned anything. We have conditioned them very similarly to Pavlov's dogs. but they (computers and the dogs) really haven't learned anything.

(Jedi Outcast made me switch from Bio-Chem to be a doctor into CS to be a game programmer but that's not everyone). But for sake of argument let's pretend there is a connection to be made.

But if you start from an assumption that all races are equal, and you then realize that non-whites play games more than whites (in other words, there is an obvious interest in games),

So why then do they play more? Why isn't someone going after this and making sure more white kids play games. Obviously there is a discrepancy somewhere! Maybe white kids are being denied games at the store. We should go after the stores then for refusing to sell games to white kids.

In all seriousness, maybe there is a problem. But if there is maybe someone ought to do some research into those problems rather than quickly shouting it out just to be heard. I don't see scientists bellowing from the rooftops everytime they get a new hypothesis. No, first they hypothesize, then they test, then they publish results. 1) More minorities play games than whites.

    2) Most game programmers are white.

Then they go on to say that these facts mean we must have more minority developers. Why? What does it accomplish? So that there are more minorities who will play games? They're already playing more. Someone tell me why! Just let people decide what they want to do rather than starting a new campaign or some other such nonsense.
