Ah the classic nerd/geek approach to a clear reasoned statement. Narrowly focus on a small part of it and completely ignore fact. I love it.
And yet we still have security holes out the wazoo. Clearly those hundreds of thousands of qualified people aren't doing enough.
Well there are several things that are responsible for this.
1. Lack of time/money/resources.
2. Business decision that says security isn't important or as high a priority as other things.
Plus, how many of those hundreds of thousands of qualified people could explain how data execution protection is implemented on x86? How many of them even know that the x86 has a separate iTLB and dTLB? (My cynacism says "how many of them know what a TLB is at all", but we'll leave that behind...) And yet that knowledge is *essential* for understanding how the Shadow Walker rootkit works.
Again a small/narrow response to a broad complex problem. The "information security professionals" are generally on the sysadmin side. There are quite a bit on the engineering/development side as well. Please expand your understanding of the real world and business before you make replies like you did.
Why does everything have to be tied in to GWB? Good grief. I mean I understand why people don't like the guy or what he does. I don't agree with a lot of what he does either. Some I do some I don't. But I mean come on taking pot shots at him at every opportunity gets old doesn't it?
I doubt you have been a user/admin for any length of time. If you had you wouldn't ask questions like this. The answer is simple. Security. A better computing experience for all of us.
Exactly. I interviewed at google and got the impression it was a sweat shop. I detailed in a Blog Post why I won't work there (at least as an engineer. I would do consulting on hiring practices). They are way to secretive for my liking. I work for Disney and am very happy.
Dude, I had the left-handed-bra-removal trick down to the point where I could snap my fingers on this one bra my ex had and it would undo it. She hated it when I did that. Maybe that should tell me more than it does.
Well lets see. If you did it at inapproriate times then yes she wouldn't like that. Most girls don't like having there clothes removed if they aren't at a place where they want to strip.
Either way, check it out, it works. Just don't get caught doing that, as somehow I doubt "some guy on the internet told me to look at your bra" would go over well.
It's a sad stare of affairs if you have to tell people to not try it on a random girl. It just shows what a sad stare of affairs things are in.
Yeah see. It's guys like him that don't get jokes that respond to ads like this. Cause they have no sense of humor or personality. No wonder they can't get women:)
I have written extensively on this problem at my Blog. I use Morphix which is a system for building live cd's. They provide a core and you build on top of it. I have lightly modified the core (with a custom kernel and custom modules). Then you create a main module (which is just an xml file of debian packages). Morphix tools work out all the dependiences etc. I do all of my development in VmWare as it gives me a separate process space/machine to do all my work in. I will be presenting on it this Saturday at the Cerroitos Lug and the SFVLUG. It will be recorded and I will put the (video)podcast online. Along with notes and configs. Its mostly on VmWare but also how I am using it for development work. Feel free to reply to this post with questions and I will be more then happy to answer them. So vmware+morphix(highly customized) = great results. I am also building an appliance (an exchange replacement with MAPI support). See my signature for links.
You know there are males on/. who have healthy sex lives. Like me for example. I am happily married. Slightly overweight but working on it. There are a number of females I encounter on a daily basis who don't recoil in horor at the sight of me (unlinke they would with most males on/.)
Why is this such a big deal?? I am left handed and function fine. The ONLY thing I do with my left hand is write. Everything else I can do equally well with both hands. I have had to use systems setup for lefties and had a horrible time. I couldn't stand the mouse being on the left side of the system. Grrr.
Well not all of us live in our parents basement and have less then 10 systems. Some of use work in enterprise environments with 1000+ servers and would like a central way to manage logins/passwords/auditing. Especially for things like PCI compliance that require it. And no I don't mean PCI as in the system bus interface. I mean payment card industry.
So have a procedure in place that people have to follow in order to submit code. Problem solved. You then have a secondary procedure that does automated testing. Which you should have in place anyway. Like the mozilla project for example.
Um Nokia and SonyEricsson don't provide cell service. They just make the handsets. If they can market more devices because people want wifi and cell in one package then they will.
device manufacturers != to cell service providers
Just how I like my woman :) (Yes thats singular).
I read it that way as well.
Thank you apple fan boy :)

Oh good grief. Yes! Stop being so literalistic.
Ok. We now know Vista will be 5 years late. :)

Dude. Other people will be switching them. Geek friends.

Nah. I'll just steal an identity and open a credit card. Then I'll join :)

What is a relationship manager? I have never heard this term or role.
It's called a joke! There are way to many hard core nerds here who have no sense of humor.
LOL. Dude your in the wrong place then.
Something like this? http://readyset.tigris.org/
