The only thing is the power consumption of the wireless access. You can't leave it running constantly. That said, it takes maybe two or three seconds for the iPod Touch to sync up with a known network.
Just a few clicks and you're good. How much is the 16GB Touch now? I paid $299 for mine.
The city of Providence, RI is looking to put in listening stations all over the city. They'd be listening for gun shots.
Being the mischievous sort, I think building what I'd call the Shot Box would be interesting. Essentially you could mount it on a car and as you drive around it would occasionally blast out what sounds like a gun shot. It's drive the cop shop crazy.
It is more than just TV

The convergence on computers is more than just broadcast TV, it's telephony with full video, music, sharing, social nets, etc.
An interesting statistic emerged recently with the switchover to HDTV (Or ATSC). It turns out that in my region, only about one quarter of folks get the stations over the air.
This gives me an idea though, something that would compete with the cable companies. Hmmm. I should develop the business plan and see if I can get a few investors.
How many times does it have to be said, the power to tax interstate commerce is EXCLUSIVELY reserved for the Federal Government.
This is an over-reach by a state once again. Here in RI we have the self reported 'use' tax. Under the legal theory they can't charge you if you buy it, but can if you use it.
Almost makes me want to buy a few million dollars worth of gear and store it away.
My old Lexmark 1100 printer met with that fate. Thrown out a third story window into a parking lot. Then of course when my Epson 880 died I harvested parts and then dumpstered it.
It is bad. The Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, RI is a privately owned and run correctional facility used mostly for Federal inmates.
Well, that was before they let a guy in their custody die. Now it's shut down, not a soul in there.
RI is also trying to do this. But I insist that the Fed trumps here. The power to tax interstate commerce is reserved exclusively for the Federal Government, not the States.
I'd be interested to see how many of the bacteria it actually kills. If it eliminates all the bacteria then there's very little chance mutation can arise to work against it.
But you're right, the overuse of antibiotics got us in the mess we're in today.
My cat was smart about it. He'd never chew the cables when I was around. Sneaky little bastard.
And it's no use punishing a cat that long after you notice the problem. The first time I'd ever notice my computer wouldn't power up. That was fun repair.
The of course I was still active in amateur radio, to the point where he'd chewed through some 9913 coaxial cable. Those are not fun repairs.
Is tolls at the RI/MA borders of I-95 and I-195. This isn't going to fly since a good chunk of the RI population drives back and forth on those highways into MA every day for work.
And I'd be likely to replace my license plates with a LED display that changes the plate numbers on the fly. Wouldn't that be fun.
Reading this I keep seeing OOP in there, and data as an object class.
This is just the OOP crowd trying to not learn SQL and do things their way. It won't replace a full RDBMS.
And an RDBMS can scale quite nicely if you know what the hell you're doing.
No. I should have been more specific. I once had a cat that loved to chew computer cables. My fault for using a coiled telephone cord to play with him when he was a kitten.
He'd chew through electrical, communication, you name it. I got tired of repairing cables and got smart. The last time I repaired it I got this ribbed blue plastic conduit and put that over the critical lines. He could chew all he wanted and never break through that PVC conduit.
It was flexible enough too and I have to admit it gave the rats nest of cables a rather cool look at the time.
Search and seizure. I have the manuals from the FBI et al on this subject.
Back when I worked for the state AG's office I can't tell you how many times I got called in to help with I.T. related cases.
That said, as far as WAP's go, I've snorted and pen tested mine. If someone is determined enough they can break into a WAP2 protected system. Doesn't take a whole lot of CPU cycles.
I'm not sure I agree with you at all. LAMP has its place. Put it this way, I've administered MS-SQL, Oracle and MySQL databases, I'll take MySQL any day.

I believe I saw a special on this on Sci Am, they were using a 4x4 or 16 bit matrix.
Looking at the how it works vid, I think I counted and 8x8 or 64 bit array. It's climbing up there.
It is very possible to tap VoIP traffic using a packet analysis tool. Most ISP's will allow law enforcement to monitor IP traffic.
I wonder though, does this also apply to VoIP providers like Vonage and MagicJack?

In other words, a Fresnel lens. Nice!

It just works. Didn't have to jailbreak it at all.

You could also turn to armoring critical cables.

Uggh, sparkfun.com
I use fring on my Touch and it works great through my Skype account.
Already have the external mic kit for the Touch so that was the first bit. Got it from sparfun.com
Never dealt with PostgreSQL. Did dabble a bit with DB2 though.

They built a Yagi. Woopie!
That has to be the best quote in the whole article. Imagine if the same amount of research were to be applied against, oh, the Bible.
See, a silver lining in the outsourcing of I.T. conundrum.
