Since when was any Linux distro easy to use? I have to recompile my kernel to get my TV card to work, and even then it's sketchy. The year of Linux will be when all hardware manufacturers release SOURCE for their drivers - AverTV released binary drivers, but they're no use to me. The card is an AverTV Hybrid PCI DVB card if anyone knows how to get it working, by the way.
I hear this goddamn argument about pirates!==customers all the time. I'm a customer, and I'm a pirate. Here's the interesting part. All the CDs I have bought in the last 3 years have been because I heard the MP3s and all except one (because I didn't realise) have been non-RIAA. There is very little the RIAA puts out that interests me.
For the RIAA to stop seeming like the MAFIAA then they need to: a) Drop prices, dramatically b) Give some money to decent artists (they've got plenty) c) Give up on DRM (at least in its current form) d) Die, quickly
I wonder if they're counting Automatix (debian based distros) or the Ubuntu Add/Remove control panel... both of which require little package management from the *user*
I wish they'd hurry up and standardise the damn things. I just bought a Chimei LCD and the cable supplied is a DVI-I to DVI-I but my video card (Xpertvision Geforce 6600GT) has a DVI-D port, and for the life of me I can't find a shop here in Australia that sells a DVI-I to DVI-D cable!
I can see why so many people don't like computers. Standards like SATA (small cables!) and USB (plug just about anything in) are going the right way. Hey, why couldn't we use USB2, wouldn't ~400mbits be enough?
Don't most recent motherboards support flashing via Windows? That way you can use whatever, seems to be less risk of bricking the board.
What does EFI use for updates?
Help us at rockbox.org get the 2nd USB port on the iRiver H3xx players going, port the rt drivers across, plug in an rt based USB wifi stick and away you go.
x264 at 720p & ~2mbps looks fine to me. Then again I don't have a HD set (22" LCD @ 1680x1050). I suspect that it wouldn't be good enough on a HD set. My comparison is that on a proper stereo, nothing under 200kbit VBR MP3 sounds good to me.
You get the Need for Speed Carbon Collectors' Edition. 8 hours later you've finished the game (WTF? that was quick!). But you haven't even unlocked all the cars yet as you were meant to get the EA Downloader Edition to get the Pagani Zonda. What is my friend meant to do who bought the game on PS2?
That 50+ car list isn't looking so good now, is it?!
EA, stop crippling your games. Too late for me though, you won't get another cent out of me ever again.

You're describing Australia's situation pretty well there. Except for the 8mbit - that's high end - no joke!
Duke Nukem Forever.
Destroying more machines isn't the way to do it. Figuring out a way to send a "discussion" about how to turn this bar off would be better.
I agree that Slashdot has serious "when somebody farts at Google it's news" syndrome
No no no! It isn't just a fart, it's stool.

Aren't rappers the ones that are meant to have guns? They need to do the world a favour and...ahem... "bust a cap" in some RIAA people.

Wait...all this time our prime minister has been a robot?!
No, this cable (DVI-D) DOES NOT fit in my graphics card.

Well, something was nailed there...
Don't worry, his 60 minute trial will run out soon.

apt-get install mars-rover
`tis probably a good thing that /. isn't adding to the DDOS
Hate to burst your bubble, but businesses probably don't care about DRM. It's more likely to be the candy-floss UI that's hogging resources.
Where's (Who's) that girl who was photographed wearing nothing but a MacBook?

But where's the opposition? Who do I vote for? (turned 18 this year)
I love how my post got Offtopic but the parent didn't.
I for one, welcome our new asteroid poking overlords.
In Soviet Russia, asteroid pokes you!
Only old people poke asteroids.
