Ok, it's predictable, but it's a welcome change from the normal Slashdot jokes. PS. I'm a convict^H^H^H^H^H^H^HAustralian, and I found this funny.

I agree. I'm using a MacBook here as well, but I've never really understood the rampant fanboi-ism. It's a computer/MP3 player/phone, it's quite good - we get it. What's so special about Steve "hand" Jobs anyway?

Well a LaTeX GUI might work because most people don't want to learn a programming language just to typeset a document. But I'll agree with you that OO is bloatware - Abiword needs to get stable on Windows platforms, or maybe KOffice can take over now that KDE4 is cross-platform. Sun, I know Java is your pet project, but only a small majority of people use macros in OO - rip the fucking thing out of OO then you can start to compete on speed with Word.

Here in Australia, we've now got (ABC, Ten, Seven, Nine, SBS) five FTA SD/HD channels, they're currently getting their act together for "Full HD" as there are a lot of programs that are a lot less than 1920x1080. We still have pay TV - satellite, and cable in the cities but I don't think pay TV is worth paying for.

Maybe on Slashdot it is, but if you're buying a new Dell or a new HP or any of those big-brand computers, you're getting Vista. Mac & *nix? As much as I'd love to see a Linux distro on most desktops, it hasn't happened in my town yet! Same with Mac - and I sit here typing this on a Mac laptop with my desktops being Ubuntu machines...

Where do you live? It's not fast enough here for every keystroke to be going through an external server! I regularly ping over 100ms to the outside world, and over 400ms to a lot of sites in the US.

No way I'm going to be going thin-client anywhere except my LAN.

I live in Australia, in a rural area btw.
