That's not what producers figured out...

Producers realized you can get some free fans if you name your horror movie after a popular horror video game, even if you don't bother sticking to the plot.
First use of "alleged" in a Slashdot post ever? Maybe the subscription plot is actually causing editors (and contributors) to act more like professionals.
That almost all new apps are *tested* on the plain vanilla Windows95. So if WINE gets to that level, all of those tested apps will work fine on WINE.
He's not saying that there are a ton of people out there using unmodified Win95, just that the vast majority of Windows programmers program with that possibility in mind.
Then again, is it all even now that slashdot has taken the content from their site ("value-added" content from this site) and used it for its own for-profit content?
My head is spinning. I hope they don't use the responses to this story for a new story over there or my head might explode.
Hmm...There's nothing preventing any company out there using slashdot comments as interview material for the entire content of their site, right?
It feels weird unknowingly providing content for a for-profit site I don't (often) visit or care about, but I suppose my comments are public-domain once I've posted them here?
I know it doesn't fit in with the copyleft thing, but shouldn't they at least have to ask before using slashdot content for their own means?
Possibly different people. Believe it or not, slashdot users are allowed to have different opinions from one another, even if it's rare to see them expressed.
As I couldn't even find the source code link until I emptied my cache. Looks like musiccity may have actually noticed the increased traffic and checked out the reason.
(though I still don't think they were in violation, it is nice of them to make the source code easily findable)
The air is actually doing its best to prevent that bullet from getting to its destination. Without the air, the bullet would get there much quicker and more efficiently, simply utilizing the space between the two points.
With your analogy, air might equal the spam that the files have to fight their way through to get to the end user's hard drive.
It's dubious how much a network pays attention to these sort of online petitions, but it would greatly improve your chances if you spellchecked the petition first. And then have 10 people proofread it.
And "Simpsons" should be capitalized as well. The networks probably won't listen anyway, but you might as well not give them specific excuses for discarding your petition.
Movie studios hold the releases of all of their "Oscar hopefuls" till late December releases. So it's no surprise that most of the movies that get nominated were released in the last month or two of the year.
(By the way, the dates you mentioned *must* be wrong or some of them wouldn't be eligible for Oscars. There must be some sort of release before Jan. 1 for them to be eligible.)
Yeah, no mention of the fact that the only way we've detected other planets is through their gravitational influence on the stars their orbiting. Obviously any planets we detect will have to be huge, until we have the technology to detect smaller planets. It's ridiculous logic to draw a conclusion then that most planets out their are huge.
Well, I'm glad they finally take that online (though I'd like to hear how) 'cause the Postal Service was really getting peeved at me for trying to send all that underwear through snail mail.
homemade nitrogen cooling system overclocked a P4 from 2.2Ghz to an incredible 3.5ghz.
Quick tip on "overclocking" from Ghz (Gigahertz) to ghz (gravity hertz): Throw your machine out the window. To get to decent speeds, you'll want to be at least on the 4th floor or above.
(Alternate tip: to perceptively increase GHz, throw the Windows out of your machine)
The unique thing about software is that it is infinitely clonable. Once you've written a subroutine, you can call it as often as you want. This means that almost everything we do as software developers is something that has never been done before. This is very different than what construction workers do. Herman the Handyman, who just installed a tile floor for me, has probably installed hundreds of tile floors. He has to keep installing tile floors again and again as long as new tile floors are needed. We in the software industry would have long since written a Tile Floor Template Library (TFTL) and generating new tile floors would be trivial.
Find specs and other technical info here.

Really, is there a need to preface every subject with "News on"? It reminds me of the Friends episode descriptions that all start "The one about"...
What would you do if your best friend cuddles up with your biggest enemy?
It's alive.
They must really be cutting back if they're recommending people holding their breath on the Mars mission.
Now this is some old news.

As long as you're converting, seems like it should be 16.8 Peta bits/20 Peta bits.
Oh, and your story link won't get botched by slashdot for being too long if you actually link it.
Oh, wait, no, that goes to DivX.
Getting married on Valentine's Day saves you one set of gifts and makes for one less date to forget.

Memento got nominated for best original screenplay ("written directly for the screen"), even though it's based on a short story.

Well, I guess it's over then. They could have at least called it penultimate to leave some room for a final, final TV.

Is there a definitive way to get a list of all the domain names purchased (through various (whatever was cheapest at the time) registrars)?
Every once in awhile I remember another 'goldmine' that I'd completely forgotten thinking of.
