Check out the Evolution series for fighting games. Probably not the sort of games you're looking for, but for Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter it don't get no better in the U.S. Most of the games take place on consoles.
You're an idiot. Always ask before you make a change. Especially if you're not even in IT. I've got a Linux box that I fiddle with here in th data center I work at, but you've better believe that I asked my boss if I could put it up before I partitioned the box.
It isn't very hard to get used to. I don't like (most) FPS games, but I play them comtetively with friends who happen to LOVE them. After playing Counterstrike for a year, I'd prefer a mouse over a controller at various times, but the controler took me no more than a few minutes to get used to. Your mileage may vary.
Can't you read the man's hat? It's got "Troll Tender" written on it quite plainly. As if the bucket labeled "Trollie Treats" wasn't a big enough indicator.
I didn't get to actually meet him, but I was prigiledged to see a quick glimpse of him close-up at GDC this year. He seems like a really down to earth guy who was not at all expecting the level of fame that he's aquired for himself with katamari. And yes, the real side of video games is... ugly. It's a shame that the nice people who want to change the world for the better through their art have to put up with the ugly "business" side of it. At least he got to get a small part his vision out to the world in the form of Katamari.
IANAB(businessman) But... If they can magically produce 3 million in three months, then why not go ahead and delay the release a week or two and not have a shortage, since they're so guaranteed to sell so many?
Well the very least, thanks for not jsut labeling me a fanboy troll, and you raise a very good issue. I'm actually a big fan of 2D fighters, which I have to admit got done proper justice on the Xbox. It's about the only hope a person without an arcade can get some good competition (Live). I loathe Sony's stance on 2D games. Also, I never knew about the Live arcade, whichc seems like it could actually become a promising venue for indie and low budget developers to publish. Online is the perfect distribution method and being able to do it for a console seems all the better. Hmmmmm... I'm actually starting to have a lil respect for this thing?!
Or at least I now see that it has some up-sides along with the downside of being attached to Microsoft's name. And being large in size. And the new kid in town. Not sure if I'll get an Xbox or a 360, but at least I can see where it's done some good in the industry. I guess you've changed my view a little.
Although an Xbox is large and intrusive enough to kill small animals, no. It's just that I don't have very much hope that there will be "more choice" in the near future. I dont have enough trust that Microsoft will allow other companies to peaceably exist alongside them and create more choice for the market. Choice has arguably been dimished somewhat recently as it is, and I don't see Microsoft changing that for the better. Call me a pessimist, but I'm just saying how I see it.
I'm sure that it's money motivated. It's almost a certain bet that it was an organized effort by some WoW gold peddling outfit that hacked the DRM into their WoW hack so quickly. Also a near-certain bet that they're stepping up their production efforts to milk this thing while they can. Greed really isn't as strange as you may think.
Good ole Microsoft. Why don't they just leave gaming alone? Oh, i'm sorry, let me give them some credit. No one does FPS games better... than a PC. Gimme a freakin' break. If the 360 "wins" the next gen console wars, I'm offically no longer a gamer. Pen-and-paper is enough to hold me over until people see what a mess M$ has made of everything and people go back to selling games again.
I've only been playing pen n paper for four years, but in that short time it's influnced my life as a gamer more than any video game. I wish I could DM an open free-for all game this time around, and if get the opportunity I most definitely will. But I do plan to show up at the local shop and roll lots of 20's... I hope.
If you've ever met the guy, you might think otherwise. I got a chance to chat with him at GD this year and he wasn't near as much of a prick as I imagined. He even gave me tips on entering the business even when I introduced myself as a n00b to the industry.
This reminds me of my old Everquest days where your guild was looked down upon because you used too many people to take down a MOB. Why is it that the more games come to be for "adults" the developers act more like children?
I'm in no way a fan of EA, but but if they want to use 300 people to make a game that only requres 25, then let them do it. EA is one of the few companies who CAN do something of this magnitude.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the slew of revolution games come out with the controller as a feature. Some will fail, and others will succeed. BUT it's those small (realistically) few that succeed that make the other failures worth their while. The most horribly crappy game ever made can still lend some insight as to how a game can and perhaps should be made.
So what we're seeing here is a remarkable time in console gaming. We should thank Nintendo for the new controller. we've got some incredibly horrible and crappy games to look forward to now!! But along with them will be some real hits that just may change the face of gaming for the better. In my eyes the risk is all worth it.
Or.. we could just keep on playing FPS games with game pads, mice, and keyboards.../yawn
Somebody has to. the world isn't perfect, no matter how mcuh people want to believe that it is, and just becaose YOU don't like something harmless dosen't mean that everyone else can't enjoy it either. I don't own a Rockstar game, nor ahve I played more than a half hour of one, but I appreciate them for making content that I don't have to lok at if I don't want to, but a few lound-mouths don't want made. This way, the next time someone I DO happen to like is questions, I might get a chance to enjoy it. See how it works?
You and me both. I'm going to go right out and get a Sony Trintron in theu nfortunate event that I won't be able to find them in stores come another couple of years. But yeah, Trinitron CRT is the best picture quality you can get hands-down. Heck, CRT's period are surprisingly superior to LCD's in many ways. I hate how the industry is practically forcing the change upon me, but I guess I'll have to conform sometime.
It might be news for the Bungie website, but for front page/.? Heck, I'd even settle for some other FPS, but Halo? And it's not even Halo 3? Gimme a break. Of course it looks better on 360, and I'll bet it plays better, too. Especially for all those people who don't have Live accounts and might get to play the multi for free with the 360's free Live feature. That's worth a LOT more to me as a player than a texture pack.
Sadly, he's right. It's funny to see marketing guys clamoring about like worker ants from rival colonies going after the same crumb, the crumb in this instance being the contract for storing our data. But in the end, it's a hell of a lot stress-free and *perhaps* cheaper in the long run to get an all-in-one solution like EMC. Unless you've got a very talented and devoted group to create some brillant software solutions, that is.

... then I read decaf. *yawn*
I'm going to go get some (cafinated) coffee.

No one can touch the people of Figaro!
:P
I love that game.
Oh... um.. nice maps, too.

Not nessecarily. Right and wrong hasen't changed any.

I wouldn't worry if I were them. I'm sure no one in Japan wants one.

Keep the daemon, but make it so that if you didn't know it was supposed to be a daemon... it's um... not a daemon.

Hey, you forogt Ninja. Or Pirate. Whichever movement you subscribe to.
Appologies for the incoherance. That's what rush-typing at work'll do to your posts...

Can't they make the purchase profitable in game and then convert the PID into real cash? I thought that was the entire point of this game.
