Honestly I really love my Samsung i730 pocket PC phone.
The phone quality is IMO excellent; it is far clearer than any cell phone I've ever owned. So at the very least it ties with standalone phones.
The mp3 player I have installed (pocket music player) is great too. The only thing that it lacks is space: I have only a 1gig SD card. However, my desktop music jukebox autosynchs, so I get new mp3s with little effort. So the ipod wins here, but the samsung is adequate.
The video (betaplater, now called TCPMP) is excellent as well, and it is perfect for watching episodes of futurama or firefly while I'm waiting. Encoding is a breeze as well with pocket dvd studio. I'm not sure if you can easily encode your own DVDs or tv shows with the PSP or ipod, so I'm going to put the win with pocket pc until I find out otherwise.
Games are adequate. The PSP and gameboy clearly beat it, but there are a few fun games for the pocket pc. Enough so I really don't need to carry around a seperate gaming device. Age of Empires, Skyforce, and Warfare Inc are all great games, amongst others.
So really, I have no reason to carry around an ipod, PSP, PDA, and phone. My device does it all adequatly enough so that I don't have to. The newest pocket PC Treo may be even better.
I can't speak for the Treo, but the Samsung i730 (pocket pc phone) has a couple great games. Warfare inc (C&C clone), age of empires, and skyforce, are all decent enough so that I don't have to carry around a gameboy. Plus I have some pinball and sports games that are decent.
Although I did wish it had better games. FF or a D&D game would be perfect.
My samsung i730 screen is about as big as a gameboy SP, so screen size isn't really an issue.
Although honestly I can only think of a few solid games for the pocket pc. Warfare inc (C&C clone), age of empires, skyforce, and a couple of pinball games. Definitely not as wide of a selection of games, but decent enough so that I don't have to carry a gameboy around.
If anyone knows of any other solid games for the pocket PC I'd be happy to hear about them.
I use a tablet PC for both my medical office and school. It's nice to have a device you can walk around with and still use at the same time.
The OS does hae some faults (occasionally I get a digital exception error when shutting down, and connecting to wifi can be annoying), but overall I love the device. I wish apple or linux would create a fully functional tablet PC so it would puch MS to create something better.
Anyone know of any good medical records (EMR) or SOAP note software for linux?
As a medical student, I can only comment on how much worthless fluff this article is. It doesn't even give any useful information in layman terms.
It seems more of a "oooh, look at me, I know something you don't". I expect articles to be written not at a medical level, but I'd expect something better than junior high quality writing.

Well, there goes my karma, but I do like windows XP. I'm not a MS fanboy (my main browser is Opera), but honestly with XP I never have any issues.
That, and I believe MS is the only OS that supports the Tablet PC.
I do wish it was more secure, and that they were more adament about patches, and will admit that is a giant negative on their part. It would be nice to be like OS X without having to install antivirus or antispyware suits. The only other thing that bothers me is when a program is eating 100% CPU, it can take quite a bit to end the process.
On the positive side, I don't have much time, so program install and maintenance on XP is easy (I'm sure OS X is easy as well, but I don't want to pay the 2k mac OS fee). I plug everything in and it just works. I'm sure linux is making strides in this area, but I see posts on recompiling kernals, installation using command lines, and I just have nightmares going back to DOS days.
MS also releases free powertools to "upgrade" the OS, such as turning off those stupid baloon pop-ups, so the OS isn't as annoying as some of the linux crowd make it out to be.
Stability is a non-issue between OSes. I've had my MS box I use as a server up for over 300 days and counting.
My soundcard "M-audio" omnistudio only works on windows. Yes, this is "M-audio's" fault, but it is still significant that the application base on windows is vast compared to other OSes.
Also, I know where everything is in XP and how to do things without even thinking about it. People complain about the interface but for some reason it is just intuitive for me. I've tried linux (likely not as much as it deserves) and I can't just quickly get the hang of it.
My box is easily upgradable. This is a non-issue between linux, and perhaps apple when they switch to intel, but I can upgrade (ie replace everything but a couple components) my box at anytime to the near-latest specs without having to shell out more than $500.
I would like to spend more time to learn linux, and dual-boot OS X when they go to intel, but right now I just don't have the time.
Seriously this device is sweet. With pocketmusic player, it makes a good mp3 player (they have a winamp skin); you can put an SD card in it (right now I just have 1 gig), which although doesn't match ipod storage, is enough to convince me to not carry three devices around (ipod, PDA, phone).
Betaplayer (now called something else) makes a great divx player (and is free). So I can watch movies, listen to mp3s, have a full functioning PDA, and a nice phone.
It's much more bulky than an ipod, but it beats having to carry three devices around.
I print about 200 pages a week. I'm in medical school, and all the notes are online.
I considered laser, but for a color laser I'd have spent many times over what I've payed for inkjets.
I've found that printers typically only last a year, at most (I'm in college, so I use them alot). I've tried most brands (canon, HP, epson, lexmark) and not one of them have lasted over a year.
Finally I bit the bullet and got a 3 year extended warranty on an all-in-one, and couldn't be happier. Whenever that thing finally breaks (and it will be soon) I'll simply turn it in for a new one.
What are you talking about? The security stops everyone who does not have a modded xbox from playing copied games.
Infact, the security is decent enough that you can't copy Xbox DVDs on your computer, you have to ftp from the DVD drive on the Xbox (which you can only do on a modded xbox).
Sure, with a modchip you can bypass the protection, but what percent of xbox owners have a modchip or softmod? Likely the number is low enough to be insignificant. So it accomplishes exactly what they want it to do: stop the majority of users from copying games.
By the way, anyone with a modded Xbox should check out the OSS (I believe) Xbox Media Center. It takes the Xbox to a whole new level.
I'm a winxp user (tablet PC, don't know of a linux version), and I was going to convert my CD collection to a format. So far FLAC looks ideal, as I don't like compression artifacts.
The problem is that I need to easily encode from FLAC to MP3, as my cellphone, PDA, and car stereo use this format.
Is there a program that allows an easy conversion of multiple files (ideally from a playlist or similar) from FLAC to MP3 for portable devices or burning?
My one dream in life growing up was to own a house with a large backyard. Just now graduating from college, it looks like that dream may be more far fetched than I imagined (unless I move to some backwoods county, but then I'd have to figure out how to get income).
Even in phoenix I've seen affordable housing skyrocket. Every year me and my dad kick ourself for not investing in a house when I first started college here 6 years ago.

If you're into RPGs, I found Jade Empire to be quite good. The battle tactics do tend to get a bit boring after awhile, but it does have quite a good story.
The problem is, as a 25 year old gamer, I've already had my fair share of mario, zelda, metroid, etc. I've experienced that, and it's time to move on. Sure, they may be excellent titles, but with the little spare time I have I want something different.
Yes, I know, the GC does have some exclusives, and some good 3rd party titles, but the majority of what is released is 1st party material. Also, some of us casual gamers don't have the time to keep informed regarding the latest console content. Nintendo for a very long time has been against adult content on their consoles, so it comes as no surprise that people still think of Nintendo as a PG-13 and under company.
The only reason I got an xbox was for modded content (emulation station baby!), and the only reason I might consider getting a ps2 on ebay is to play romance of the 3 kingdoms.
I just don't see any games on the GC that scream "purchase this console!" If you can prove me wrong, great. I can get a used GC for quite cheap, so if there are some excellent games that are not mario or cross-platform, I'd like to hear about them.

The only way a PDA/gaming device is going to work is if it still looks professional, like the current non-gaming PDAs. Professionals really don't want their business hardware looking like a toy.
The only problem I see with current PDAs is they keep shrinking their directional pad and buttons. Put a decent graphics chip in it, make the buttons gaming friendly, give it decent battery life, and make it look professional. Then I'd buy it.

Great phone, no camera.
Hey, do you know what brand?
I'm looking to pick up a student violin.
Takes 2 seconds in Opera on my 1.8g pentium m windows XP.
How did you install both?
My XP tablet restore CD automatically formats the hardrive into one partition.
I'd really like to try linux but I'm not sure how to go about doing it with the tablet and the XP restore CD.

How is this -1 overrated, because it's not by apple? Check out cnet for the review. It's a very well recieved all-in-one.

Isn't there a MS office version for OSX? That's hardly windows centric (although I recognize a native linux install does not exist).
