Do you really think the Apple x86 hardware won't have DRM? Apple won't allow OSX to run on anything other than its own hardware. To me that sounds like DRM. Other than that, I agree with your point. In fact, I bet Linux will end up running on a lot of those soon to be obsolete PPC computers.
I am sorry, I guess I misinterpreted "get over all of this religious sillyness". Even so, Israelis are not killing Palestinians because they have an excuse to do so. There is a huge amount of terrorism coming from the Palestinians and Israel needs to protect itself. Study the history a little closer. I think you will find that the Israelis have been trying a lot harder to make peace than the Palestinians.
Religion is not silly, and eliminating it will not solve the world's problems. The majority of the world practices some sort of religion. The majority of the world believes their religion can coexist with others. There are few extremists who misread religious texts. All religions I know of are based on some sort of morals and generally want their followers to be good people. Without religion the world would not be better. Since we are all "just human beings" there will always be extremists, whether they are religious extremists or not. To remove these people we would need to destroy beliefs completely. Obviously that is impossible as long as humans have brains. So the only way to get real peace would be to kill everyone.
I was referring to an iPod with 192kbps mp3s and regular audio cds. By my math, each CD should take up 192kbps/8/1024*80min*60sec=115.2MB. So I was off, because it would actually only need 173.6 CD-RWs, which still costs a lot. (BTW, if the mp3s were 128kbps, which many people listen to, it would take 266.7 CD-RWs)
I think you meant 250-300 CD-RWs, right? That would cost you at least $200, $220 with your walkman. $300 for an iPod doesn't look so bad anymore, does it? Of course you can get 20GB mp3 players for much less, but that is beside the point.
One problem. What if someone else releases a derivative work under the GPL. That person makes a comment copyrighting the code. Then an evil third-party comes along and violates GPL by using some of the code. The code is in both versions, which are copyrighted by the GPL, so whose code is it? It looks obvious, that the first author does, but what if there aren't comments on every single line saying who write what? It might be impossible to find where each part of the code started. Even if you did know who wrote each line, how would the ownership of the code be split up?
One company = monopoly, which means prices would go up. But of course you have to take into account that the batteries would have to be competitively priced with other types of batteries, even if no other manufacturer makes nuclear ones.
MS deserts Intel and makes money, Intel deserts MS and loses money. Seems stupid to me. This is of course assuming Intel doesn't start selling processors to Apple within a few months.
I don't know why people have problems with 2.4GHz phones interfering with wireless routers. I have a set of two cordless phones and another cordless phone, all on 2.4GHz. I also have a 802.11g router. There has never been a problem with interference. And if there was I would just change some channels. There is plenty of space in the 2.4GHz range, though I could see it being a problem in an apartment building or other generally crowded area with many people having phones and routers.
I'm sure this is not what he intended when he said it, but with the price difference in the system and games, they could have made about the same amount of profit.
I was joking. I don't actually mind Java and Fortress does look like it could be interesting. Who modded me informative?! I quoted from the summary before even reading TFA...
That is a lot more expensive than paper and pencil, which is all the students should need to do basic arithmetic.
The only things you can really like are OSS, because if you don't like them you can fix them.

People should use the non-reg links when posting about a NYT article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/06/technology/06uni ted.html?ex=1275710400&en=022fb6cd810b1719&ei=5090 &partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
I'm sure they have nanosecond buttons too...

They won't care about this. We aren't pirating their IP, just SCO's.
Survival of the fittest.
Sure you say that now, but you won't be laughing in several billion years when the Martians take over the Earth!

Exactly. Skynet must be based off of Longhorn.

It is an @aim.com.
A better idea. "Would you like this NOT to install?" defaulted to yes.
Wow, I wish I had mod points... FUNNY! Who modded this informative?? Whoever did should have actually looked at http://www.macnewsworld.com/.
That was in January. What month is it now? Have they done it yet? It doesn't seem so likely anymore...
It's called OpenOffice... But if you really want MS Word working, get CrossOver Office. http://www.codeweavers.com/
Did you read the article? Everyone will be forced to use GPL code because proprietary vendors will be out of business.
Good idea with the AC, but I don't believe you. If you really worked for a large PC company, you would talk to your customers in capital letters.
