The state isn't telling the parent how to raise their children. The state is saying that children cannot buy mature video games, the parents can buy it and let the kids play if they choose.
But then I ask myself a question. Who decided that at 18, you're magically mature enough to play these games, anyway? I know 14 year olds who are mature enough to play any violent game, yet I also know 20-something year old immature idiots
At 18 you're considered an adult, and if the 14-year olds' guardian believes they're mature enough then they can purchase it for them.
I think its mostly because Microsoft hasn't released an OS since 2001. Viruses, spyware and spam weren't the largescale issues that they are today.
Hopefully now that these issues are known (and the up and comers) we'll see better defaults in their future releases.
I believe it differs morally from stealing in that no one actually looses anything. RIAA argues loss of sale, but most people can see downloads often are not replacing a sale anyway (particularly when you see the deographics of the people they've sued.)
I think that our culture is used to media being free, Radio and Television (well sat/cable but music is more like PPV) cost nothing, CDs & books can be borrowed, etc.
This makes me think of an interesting p2p system. Stream the audio, allow no saving and never have the number of listeners exceed the number of peers available with that song. In essence you'd be loaning the use to 'a friend'. Wonder if this is already out there.
The sad thing is, Iran had a democratic government until it started to nationalize its oil. After that western nations funded groups that toppled the democracy.:/
The IEEE isn't run by government, I imagine medical journals aren't either, your analogy is flawed.

I doubt Blizzard is worried about the individual player, their concern is more for companies that do this for profit. As odd as it may seem these companies apparently hire chinese labour specifically to farm and sell for profit.
Individual players would have little to no effect on the economy, bots and characters on every server farming 24/7 do.
I'm going to have to agree, I've got various WD HDDs from 30gb -> 160gb and have never had issues with them. Nor have I heard any sort of noise from them.
The biggest speed improvements seem to be related to the cache 2->8mb was a big change in performence. Maxtor DiamondMax-10 drives, 7200rpm with 16mb cache apparently offer similar performance to the 10k Raptors with 8mb (other than seek times), not to mention they have a better GB/$$.
The sticker is part of an attack on evolution by anti-evolutionists now operating under the alias 'Intelligent Design.' Wired had a good article on this several months ago (I believe November, try here) Basically they've realized they cannot win the battle by pushing the bible and have switched to pushing 'theories' (Aliens, Omnipotent Beings, etc.) that are at best hypotheses. All in an effort to confuse the population into thinking there is a division in the scientific community.
As for the complexity of life and the chance of it occurring, perhaps you've heard the universe is a really big place; if thats not enough quantum theory predicts that there are an infinite amount of slightly different ones! So while the chance of life existing is small, it's had a lot of chances. An easy example of a similar situation: if I'm holding a single card the chance of it being a specific card is low, if I'm holding most of the deck its probable to have a specific card.
I worked in a call centre for doing support for a cellular company, and most call centres are actually 3rd parties. The 3rd party I used to work for served multiple cellular providers, it was quite funny for threats to move one of the competitors.
Apparently you haven't.

Well, minors cannot hold credit cards, nor are they allowed Paypal accounts. So they already need an adult to purchase it.

There are many security issues in OS-X, however why would spyware and virus writers care about 1%.
A simple search reveals one such study.
Do side-by-side comparisons of old versions of Office and WordPerfect, by 97 (?) office was a nicer set.
He could be posting from work where IE can be the only option approved for us.
...they wouldn't be laughing.
I think about this all the time, finding reviews or instructions is a pita with all the stores.
Game systems also get royalty on games sold, often the system gets sold at a loss!

Consciousness and sentience are reaction to external stimuli, other definitions fall into metaphysics.
On a more humourous note, Robot + Lust = Bender on Futurama.
The sad thing is, Iran had a democratic government until it started to nationalize its oil. After that western nations funded groups that toppled the democracy. :/
Google has become part of culture, even people who don't use computers know of it; the same cannot be said of Apple.

Minors aren't allowed accounts in MMOs. A guardian is required to register the account, they are then allowed to give access to a minor.
I went to the University of Waterloo in Canada, in my first year classes of ~100 there were 3 women. (Math there consists of CompSci and Math)
I've never understood that part of Independence Day; Macs aren't compatible with anything down here, how likely would it be for an Alien ship to be :)
Then again it would explain a lot about Steve Jobs...

I saw the interview of Stan Lee by Kevin Smith and Stan mentioned that the unreleased fantastic-4 movie was just to hold onto the license.
