I don't understand this logic... You want to "help" Americans, but not others? What you're effectivly saying is: Screw them, they're not us. So at what point do you take your argument away from national borders and into state borders, or race... And if you wouldn't do that, why?
I figure, eventually we (the USA) won't be the superpower we are, and we will be on the recieving end of the outsourcing (or whatever term you're going to use). I'm ok with that too. Right now, I'm enjoying my cheap am/fm radio made in China.
You want to tell me that poloticians are corrupt bastards? I'm right there next to you. When a party is singled out, that's just stupid...
Search "political corruption" (Google) and you get "Results 1 - 10 of about 28,000,000"... I don't think it matters wether it's (R) or (D), but maybe that's just me?
I'm a computer nerd, and in no way a chemist... But when you "burn water", doesn't it produce - water? I think that's the whole reason people like this idea... or am I wrong?
"...the american produce is cheaper than they can produce in the developing and third world."
I don't agree with subsidies and I grew up farming... (I mean, if we're going to have free market, why not have free markets) But... if it's cheaper for them to get it from us, then why keep farming? Why not go do something else, and then the money earned doing something else goes FARTHER in feeding the familys of those that would have otherwise spent MORE on farming... (or did I not understand what you were saying?)
While I'll admit CC and I are not the "same"... I don't believe the law applies differently to us, of course this is not something I can backup at this time, so maybe this post is pointless... In any case, even if it WERE illegal (and I don't think it is), it shouldn't be - if it's illegal for one, it should be illegal for all - or more importantly, if LEGAL for one, it should be LEGAL for all.
My first question is: Is it illegal for me to copy cds to my ipod? If yes, then it'd be illegal for CC to do it also. (though I'd still argue that CC might be legal to do so if they had you sign a waiver)
If not, then CC is providing a service for me, and doing nothing illegal.
I just don't belive this to be true... If they're providing a service (lets say) by showing me how / and performing the procedure of taking my purchased music and putting it on my ipod. They are not selling the copied music, they are selling their skills in knowing how to do this.
Now if you were to tell me that it's illegal for them to do this AND for me to copy my cds onto my ipod, I guess I wouldn't have a lot of gripe... With what you're saying anyhow... The service shouldn't be illegal, it's the fact that they are "changing digital media" for profit or otherwise shouldn't matter. (not that I belive it should be illegal - as long as you have purchased your legal copy.)
Wouldn't it be ironic that a major corperation's services is one of the only ways a person can still legaly retain some of the fair use rights thought to exist to protect consumers from corperations.
heh... I agree, but my hope would be that by DOING this, it would show some legitimacy to the practice, so that in court it wouldn't be see as "only the bad people want to copy dvds" it would be "look how much money CC has made doing this LEGALLY"... We shall see.
So you're saying that my LEGAL CDs when converted and put on my ipod are in fact illegal? Or is it just if I had CC do this for me that it becomes illegal?
As you may or may not know, many things are using software now days... I was just providing the example because someone else had mentioned a mechanic. So I continued...
So my point is, at what point can someone LEGALLY charge to backup media - a service?
The problem there is - So I have a car, I want to improve my preformance settings, in order to do this anymore, you're messing with the computer. So if I have my mechanic backup my original settings, is he now doing something illegal? I don't buy it (for that I might be sued someday) but I'm glad CC is providing this "SERVICE" because my grandmother wouldn't know how to backup a DVD, or have the equipment for that matter.
...CC should be allowed to do it as a value-added service...
Don't people get paid for "services"? I would agree had they been selling these copies to people walking down the street... But they way I understand it, the customer is coming in and saying "I need a copy" so, they SHOULD already OWN the product, they're just paying for the service of the backup/transfer... Right?
I am not from the UK, nor do I know much about how things are run... But based on what I've seen from MHRA the final report includes: "We are satisfied that the adverse incidents which occurred were not as a result of any errors made in the manufacture of TGN1412, its formulation, dilution or administration to trial participants" said Professor Kent Woods, MHRA Chief Executive."
I don't know anything more than I've read... Just seems like he's pretty high up to be saying something like that if it even close to negligence, you know?
You really think this is the fault of the "news" sources?
I mean I don't think it's cheaper for a news org. to check up on a bill, all of that info is available through phone calls, email, or web sites... The simple fact is that entertainment news is more "interesting" to the general public. Maybe you don't get excited about the thought of a new movie coming out, I don't know, but I'm interested in this movie...
That said, I DO think it's sad that we don't have more interest in the govt... But many of us have given up... Not because of the left, or the right, but because all of them are evil bastards that don't give a crap what we think... *shrug*
I love movies, I hate government... By taking a more active interest in govt, I'll just get pissed off... Bring on the entertainment...
I don't get the vaporware argument here... They're being SOLD... But aside from that, I see MANY uses for this - first in cell phones, according to this "In February of 2006, Toshiba and NEC announced a 16 megabit MRAM chip with a new "power-forking" design. It achieves a transfer rate of 200 MB/s, with a 34 ns cycle time - the best performance of any MRAM chip. It also boasts the smallest physical size in its class -- 78.5 square millimeters..."
so we're looking at 'about' 3 inches for 16meg (in this case)... I'd LOVE my phone to be able to use it's memory more quickly, and to be able to sync more quickly with my pc. And that's just the first thing I could think of...
No I have not read every EULA, and yes the market will take care of them...
I'm always debating with my friend about this, but... In any market (free or otherwise) people get hurt. The market WILL and has punished the company, the only question is; How MANY people get screwed before Dell changes things (or dies)?
I know from experience, as many of you probably do, the problems with Dell in the past 5 years (was happy with them before then). Now Dell is scrambling to build their reputation again (Alienware, AMD, etc...) but until the MARKET decides that they are as good as they were back then, they're screwed.
Isn't the whole point of auctions to (in some way) get people to act irationally, which (to me) is the reason for the auction chant http://www.msaa.org/chant.php "... the fast-paced chant creates excitement and makes the auction environment entertaining." Again, IMO, not rational.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_Wars/ is the thing that comes to my mind... Blowing up fossils seems like an artificial barrier to me. :-)

heh... yea, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the difference in labor costs... It's all about being lazy...
...
... Oh wait
Smart man that Joss is.

With no bias I might add...
Except for the fact that they won't know how/when the questions appear on the screen... At least they'll know the options FOR the questions...
I'm a computer nerd, and in no way a chemist... But when you "burn water", doesn't it produce - water? I think that's the whole reason people like this idea... or am I wrong?
Which is the main reason why slashdotters don't worry about being featured on the news.

Galaxy Quest
How I love that show. heheh... I laugh just thinking about it.

Sorry.
agreed, I never understood why these guys choose the formats they do. Why not a simple mpg? (Honestly - why?)
so we're looking at 'about' 3 inches for 16meg (in this case)
