I'd recommend picking up a FTA sat receiver and see what all you can grab. They have uncompressed HD signals out there that look pretty cool. Not to mention all the random channels and whatnot that somehow still broadcast.
I've a professional AV person in your state and we're out there to help. In the case of a hotel or hospital they have a cable head-end where they have rack full of receivers. From there they break out to a custom CATV distribution system. Then they can use the analog tuner in their displays.
You seem to have an overly strong bias for the purity of Japanese production over American. Last I checked Studio Ghibli completely destroys any source material they can get their hands on. In fact any Anime adaptation of a western IP has always been hugely divergent from the source. I'll just throw Howl's Moving Castle and Earthsea out there.
I work for a professional installer and I have no idea what TVs you're talking about. Are you thinking of (large-ish) computer monitors? I can't think of a single pro TV that doesn't have IR.
So is it safe to say that in most of the western world outside of the US there are no tidy rooms? Would I find myself struck with culture shock if I traveled north to Canada and witnessed the disarray of most the homes and the bright colors? Let me make a note to stay far away from France and Germany as I'm likely to be buried in an avalanche of travel brochures. Have these researchers ever spent anytime in the deep south? I don't think I'd consider stacks of old cars in your front yard as tidy (though they are stacked!), but I bet they'll be voting Republican this November. The whole study seems to be looking for some stereotypical visual indicators where they probably only appear in a vocal minority.
PS I'm a messy libertarian and my wife is a very neat liberal
What's with all the 'we' stuff in these kinds of comments? Does anyone else find the way people talk about their political affiliation a little creepy? It's like some kind of hive mind where you all have to agree on something before it's true.
I remember him stating it on David Letterman if that helps you track it down (he was also talking about getting schooled by 13 year olds playing Quake on-line).
Considering it takes about all of 3 clicks to do the same thing in XP with any card supporting dual output I wouldn't brag about that too much. For once you don't even have to reboot Windows.
Try again, a Pentium 300 (running Win2K) won't even run youtube smoothly. My wife does all of 2 things on a computer: play yahoo games and watch streaming video neither of which runs well on our Dell P2-333 laptop.
I use a completely different system, but if you're not averse to downloading TV shows who cares about PVR functionality? Someone out there already trimmed the commercials for me and has better reception than I do.
Which is it? You don't care if all new movies are HD only formats because they don't use painted backgrounds and cameras on tripods or you're bitter because when they re-release Casablanca for the millionth time you won't be able to buy a new copy?
I specifically remember in high school valedictorian/sultatorian nominees taking typing classes and the like for guaranteed A's. They just manipulated the system, there wasn't any correlation between high marks and being smart (maybe street smart/savvy).
Probably not the point you were trying to make, but the MT-32 was used professionally quite a bit as well. There were better sounding modules at the time and it got pushed out when General MIDI came in, but it was a pretty common piece to use as a musician. In fact I bought mine from a music store not a computer store. I'm still using it hooked up to an old Akai keyboard, but I'm missing the ISA card that plugs into the MPU-401. It'll choke on most any other MIDI interface box.
No, that just makes you a very slow player. Back when I played I hit level 60 in around 40 hours played. Apparently it's taken you about 3 times that in time played.
Are you completely unaware that the DirecTV music channels *are* XM stations? The old system was Music Choice which is still available on cable networks. Despite DTV's "near monopoly" you can also choose Dish Network and get Sirius music as well as Dish's own music stations.
I don't think any of the examples are really comparable to the French surrendering Paris to the Germans which I believe is where the concept originates. Tossing up your arms to an invading force is a completely different beast.
Maybe the point is that he likes to be about 8 years behind on technology so he'll only be able to download a couple movies with his USRobotics 56k x2 modem.
Yeah, it's only been -4 degrees out lately let me round up some folks for a pickup game. Plus with work and a family I'm sure they'll be good to start at 10pm and be willing to stop every time the baby cries. Thanks for that fantastic suggestion!
I don't think you're interpreting his message correctly. He's talking about Google coming up with some magical way to let (help/assist) game developers make games for multiple platforms.
Atari just barely made the list and NWN2 *was* mentioned though this article was originally published in October. By the way, were you lead tester on Temple of Elemental Evil because I think you missed a few things?

Are you saying a church doesn't sell anything? The guy is driving a car and is employed by the church. They had to get that money from somewhere.

As an AV guy that works with higher-ed and government on occasion I wholly support this comment.

We spec these all the time. The website lists 100', I've personally taken them up to around 50'. http://www.wireless-computing.com/

Yeah because $600 is an enormous amount of money. Not everyone here is an impoverished college student.
No they don't. When I worked at a movie theater we made $.25 from a $6.50 ticket. That's why concession prices are so high.
