I was tasked with writing communications on a Linux workstation that NFS mounted the source repository. The workstation had dual Ethernet ports, but the site security restrictions did not allow me to connect it simultaneously to both the engineering network (where the code was stored) and my test network (which went through a WiFi Access Point to send commands to the device under test. In other words, company security rules made doing my assigned job a fireable offense! And I'll bet HP is still wondering why they can't retain good engineers anymore...
There is no _technical_ reason to route commands through the company's server; this is done purely for vendor lock-in. The IoT vendors want to have control over your devices after you buy them! Of course, that means they can render any of your devices non-functional at any time, for any reason, including just to make you buy the newer version they are selling. Any device you buy that requires a connection to a company server, you haven't really bought anything -- you are renting time on the company server for a limited time.
Why does my "turn off the lights" command to by bedroom digital assistant have to travel round trip to the device manufacturer's server before turning off the light in my bedroom? Sending the command directly from the assistant to the switch would be much faster, and wouldn't rely on the huge failure point of an internet connection to perform a simple task!
Personally, I think Musk is intentionally running down Tesla stock so he can buy a bigger share of the company. However, calling the diver a pedo still seems like bad judgement, not strategy. Musk doesn't want to make his second fortune selling cars, he wants to make his second fortune by being the Intel of battery manufacturing. Like CPUs, batteries appears to be a natural monopoly with huge barriers to entry that rewards the few companies that can afford to keep investing heavily in continuous improvement.
If you do technology to make money, then this is news that matters to you! Personally, FaceBook has stayed in business much longer than I would have predicted and has made a lot more money than I would have predicted, and I can't explain why. But then, I can't explain why Donald Trump get elected either.
I deleted by FaceBook account several months ago, when reports of misuse of data started coming out. No kids use FaceBook for social media anymore, because their parents all have accounts and can see what they post! My daughter has moved to Instagram and SnapChat herself; no telling what she'll be using next year.
Pizza My Heart used to sell pizza by the slice on the Esplanade in Capitola By The Sea. And yes, when the Esplanade bars closed, there was a line out the door and down the block! Always an interesting experience...
7pm is dinner time, and 2am is when the bars closed. I could have guessed this result without spending a penny of research money! What's more surprising is the day of the year the most pizza deliveries are done on: Halloween.
The server sends a challenge to the device, then the device sends a response back. Without knowing the private key used by the device, the response cannot be calculated by third parties, and recording the response is useless because a different challenge is used every time. Yes, that doesn't fit the definition of "two factor authentication", but I see no reason why it would be less secure. https://www.securenvoy.com/two...
Librarians have something the internet doesn't: Librarians. Very useful for answering questions that you're not sure how to ask, especially if you are a school kid. They have provided valuable help to my daughter on multiple occasions. My favorite interaction was when checking out books, I asked, "Couldn't I check out all those CDs and DVDs over there, take them home, and make copies of them?" His response was, "Well you could, but if you do, please don't tell me about it!"
What's wrong with this picture? I still get contacts from contractor recruiters that want to pay software engineers $40/hr, significantly less than I'm already making...
Pity, the pink slip looked FABULOUS on you!
Studies show that sociopaths do better than non-sociopaths in management positions.

Just ONE hand, I assume...

You know if you pick up the pizza yourself from Domino's it's half the cost, right?
Depends on what you're stoned on, but it's not out-of-the-ordinary to be up all night on pot.
Taco Bell is open until 3AM for a REASON!!! (People get munchies when the bars close.)

"And if our experiments show it works well for securing computers, we're going to try using them on DOORS next!"
Go after the people actually making money off piracy, not the naive kids trying to watch a free movie!

Yes, laptops with good performance exist. The problem is, there isn't a huge number of people willing to spend $5000 for a laptop.
If you want performance, plug the damn thing into a wall socket, it ain't gonna happen on battery power!
Why do Scotsmen wear kilts? 'Cause sheep can hear a zipper a mile away, my lad!
Uh, there are 200,000 projected job openings for information security in the next few years. Those people are going to have to come from _somewhere_.

You could try being a stripper, but I doubt if you have the looks for it...
