  1. That guy that drives the septic tank pump truck? on Visualizing the Best and Worst Paid Jobs in the Tech Sector (howmuch.net) · · Score: 1

He makes twice as much as I do, for pretty much the same job. I'm a software engineer.

  2. True capitalism would have the airport auction off EVERY departure time on the schedule on a daily basis, thank you very much. Actual economies have "friction" which render them sub-optimal. And yes, government bureaucracy is a huge source of friction.

  3. Just like "krab" is used for the imitation crab meat made from whitefish, we should use the word "milc" for imitation milk made from soy, almond, etc.

  7. Increased volcanic activity is a symptom of global warming, not a cause. The earth regulates it's temperature over the long term by having volcanic eruptions that spew sulfuric acid into the air and block sunlight from reaching the earth. In other words, volcanic activity causes global _cooling_, not warming. (I"m oversimplifying, it can probably do both.) As far as solar, the radiation from the sun has been steadily increasing for billions of years, and yet the temperature of the Earth has remained relatively constant over the long term.

  8. No, Hillary Clinton's private, non-government emails are not official documents. Her mistake was in keeping both her email accounts on the same server, so she would only have to carry one phone.

For those of you not following; there was a really bad joke in the 80's to the effect of Q: Why should you always duct tape your hamster? A: So it doesn't explode when you f**k it! The 80's were a simpler time, when coworkers didn't get fired for statements that would now be considered harassment.

  13. I called Novell once to report a bug in their software... they asked me for a credit card number, as obviously reporting a bug was using software support services that the billed $200/hr for! (For the record, they were clearing interrupt flags on return from interrupt instead of saving and restoring the state of the flags, meaning that interrupts disabled before entering Novell code were mysteriously enabled after. They also told me, "I'm going through the Windows code, and we've already fixed that issue!" Sure... but not in any code that was available for me to use!

That makes sense. It needs to be a 240 volt circuit, so the house probably only has one to the electric dryer. My ex rented a house with a 240 outlet in the garage, I always assumed it was for car charging since the laundry room was upstairs.
