    Yes, but in real life, generally "immoral" behaviour carries with it at least the possibility of severe punishment. I'm beginning to be bothered by the ammoral stance that most game designers take, in that harmful behaviour (e.g. mugging an innocent citizen to get money to buy better weapons) is actually a viable way of working towards the game goals and carries little or no risk of punishment.

    Seriously, I was thinking the other day the online games should have some sort of Karma system that rewards helpful behaviour and punishes harmful behaviour... this would go a long way towards eliminating the greifers and PKers who make the game less fun for everyone else.

    P2P is basically publishing. Why should you be allowed to publish my stuff, if I hold the copyright?

    Lending a book or CD to a friend is basically publishing. Why should you be allowed to publish my stuff, if I hold the copyright?

    If a creator wants to make something public domain then they can do that.

    Some artists have tried to do just that, only to get bitchslapped by their record company. Turns out the record companies own the rights to everything the artist does, not the "creator".

    Whats with the right to do what you want with whatever you want all of a sudden?

    It's called "freedom"... you know, that funny concept that are young men and women are right now dying for in Bumfuq Iraq...

    Many years ago, our government mandated GOSIP (Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile). Many years later, how many of the computer systems used by the US government actually meet these requirements? None that I know of! As long as government can be swayed by the contributions of deep-pocketed corporations, we're better off not having the government involved in promoting operating systems...

    No, no, no, you've got it all wrong... this would be a take off on the Police Academy series of films, only using the younger versions of the original StarTrek characters as the wacky, quirky goofballs that somehow always manage to win in the end!

    Sorry, but I think Leonard Nimoy has always had a better since of humor about himself (and always been a better actor). Also, Nimoy directed the only StarTrek movie that didn't suck...

    I didn't endorse polygamy; I said polygamy is not a good idea, but it is not the governments place to tell citizens how many husbands or wives somebody can have.

    P.S. In my reading of the Bible, it appears to not only condone polygamy, but also to imply that the number of wives someone had was a direct indication of how rich and powerful they were!

    I'm in favor of gay marriage, because I beleive families are very important, and what most religious fanatics ignore is the fact that homosexuals can and do have children.

    I used to be in favor of poly marriage, but my muslim friends tell me that the multiple wives invariably fail to get along, and that it always causes problems. Nevertheless, I don't think the government should be in the business of defining what is and isn't a family! We must remember that diversity is a survival factor, and that if everybody conformed to the norm and always chose the obvious choice, we as a species would have died out a long time ago.

    I've got a Samsung Uproar cell phone that plays MP3's which is several years old (and which I don't even use any more). Seems to me combining a cell phone and MP3 player isn't exactly a novel idea... but wait, it's Apple, so that makes it special?!?

    Sharp started out selling mechanical pencils, Logitech started out selling Modula-2 compilers, and Microsoft started out selling BASIC interpreters... yes, if you "See a need and fill it" you could quite possible wind up positioning your company in a completely different direction then was originally intended.

Could it be that computers are now commodities with razor-thin profit margins, while consumer electronics can still be sold for several times their actual worth? Business is all about margins, and you don't get good margins by competing directly with Asian manufacturers. Someday even HP might figure that out...

    You could always do an end run around the satellite system by distributing indie films on hard drives, and it would probably still be cheaper than making a print... plus, the hard drives would be reusable. In other words yes, I think we're about to see a golden age of independent filmmaking.

    Uh, that's exactly why I'm a contractor. I'm perfectly willing to work 80 hour weeks provided I get paid for 80 hours of work! However, as a contractor my managers now pretty much insist I go home after 8 hours because they don't have any budget to pay me more than 40 hours a week!

    In fact, Microsoft wants it both ways: they rely on the court and police powers of the state to enforce copyrights, patetns, and trademarks to make their proprietary software business model succeed, yet still reserve the right to give the finger to those same courts and police when they make a ruling that Microsoft disagrees with! Here's a simple, zero cost solution: have the governments give a simple ultimatum to Microsoft in effect saying: "Either stop abusing your monopoly power, or we stop enforcing any and all regulations against infringement of Microsoft copyrights, patents, or trademarks." That would certainly get their attention, don't you think?

    Because when you pay for the crippled version, it comes with world class Microsoft support! Yes, if you find any problems in your copy of Starter Edition, you can just call up Microsoft support and they will tell you "That will be fixed when you buy our next release!"

    Hybrid and Electric are completely different. Since they are not powered solely by batteries, hybrids use much smaller batteries which should last from 8 to 10 years and cost 1 to 2 thousand dollars to replace. I can't speak for electric, but it stands to reason they would have much more expensive batteries with a shorter life; obviously the figures you cite ONLY apply to electric vehicles.

    Show of hands: who actually gave correct personal information when creating their hotmail accounts? Ok morons, you can put your hands down now!

    I feel a personal responsibility to put down as much erroneous and conflicting information as possible when filling out web forms. I'm pretty sure hotmail beleives that I am an 18 year old female virgin with an annual income of $0 whose name is Bill Gates and whose address is 1 Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA... yeah, that info should be really useful to potential advertisers!
