Thats probably in part because the people who read Slashdot are less likely to install a tool to monitor their browsing than the average Wikipedia user.
Plus it would skew their data for most popular article. Then they could also incorrectly surmise that the average slashdotter is suicidal.
Also judging by 9/11, there was a huge cell phone outage in the area as there were cell towers on top of the towers (iirc) and there was a massive spike in call attempts. Throwing a mass of txt messages might exaggerate the issue instead of helping.
Secondly, if they are too common people will begin to ignore them. Conversely, if there is a serious threat, the normal media does a decent job of getting the information out. I recall having heard about 9/11 within 20 minutes of the attack even though I was driving to high school some 200 mi away at the time.
We've had the technology to go from heat (differential) to energy for quite some time, but I'm still betting there's no Seebeck chips wired in the cooling tower. My guess is you won't see any of this stuff near a nuclear power plant any time soon either.
You might want to check out http://www.jamendo.com/ it has a lot of free music. I can't speak for all the bands there, but it looks like a lot is distributed via creative commons and not RIAA. Some decent stuff from what I've listened to. I'm also a fan of cdbaby.com, which is smaller bands (not sure on the labels). Most of the cd prices there are reasonable.
Gee, if only there was a way to deal with the limited supply of water. A perfect solution would be a car that burns hydrogen and returns water to the environment somehow. Maybe they'll make companies that create water much like the ones that remove carbon now.
I realize its not a valid source, but I got really annoyed with Myspace because of all the ads and crap it started loading. Not to mention the annoying music and themes everyone had. Facebook was cleaner and presumably gave me a little more privacy. Myspace randomly deleted my account with no notice and I never looked back.
Now facebook is starting to get annoying with more ads (since the Microsoft buy-in) and the stupid new "applications". At least they don't have as many spam accounts. Kinda hoping they delete me too though.:)
Or possibly just the way we view books will change. They said music was gonna die from radio, tapes, cd burners, mp3s. Noticing a patern? When was the last time books changed? Maybe digital books as a service will kick off more, but I kinda prefer the feel of a dead tree. Plus the other difference is that its not really efficient to copy books in print form. Its cheaper to purchase them than to pirate them.
Exactly, I was thinking about just replying and posting: Fixed! Microsoft's Biggest Threat - Google and Open Source. Didn't want a redundant mod though.
While I'm guessing people with the proper light monitoring tools would still be able to tell, I am guessing the average person couldn't tell between Ti (white) and Mg (white).
Oh, and all lazy persons must be stupid huh? You productivist.
An anonymous engineer at NASA stated that the landing site will be in the Arizona desert just outside of Phoenix, hence the lander's name.

No, its an infinite loop with a conditional break().

I agree, besides, everyone knows the future of computing is tables, and portable tables with folding legs.

That means my screensaver could be an Internet network diagram?
Wouldn't them disagreeing be the definition of a controversy over evolution?

What? But how am I going to stay awake then?
Just be glad you live in America. Other countries would probably find an "easier" way to correct the records.
Great news everyone! Now we can take our medicine in our own homes, we just need to climb into the microwave.
Sony is just afraid that someone is catching up to their brand in the race to the bottom.

I have no problems with safe mode, I just have problems when I turn it on...

... We are approaching the ring of deat[no carrier]...
I wonder how long until they pair this with a water tight hydration recycling suit and we chase worms in the desert?

This is quite disturbing! This just proves that in a few years all our children will be mutant mice!
Wow, thanks for the warning. I was almost considering using gnome.

Its not too hard, you can try it from the comfort of your tub with a toaster.
