rent-a-limo-and-go-clubbing night, weekends in Tahoe, Burning Man, in-office happy hour
I'm 44 now, and I have never wanted to go to Burning man. A weekend in Tahoe might be okay. In-office happy hours, however, are just a gathering with your co-workers for about an hour in a conference room with free food and beer. Almost all of the companies I've worked for (of all sizes) have people of all ages, and these happy hours were a nice, quick break. I wouldn't fear them.
I honestly think you won't have a problem fitting in. Being the only person to show up early in the morning without a hangover might be to your advantage, anyway.
Why can't we have a pipeline that brings fresh water, instead of oil? That would be a lot more helpful. We've been a serious drought for years, and there's no sign it will let up.
Mod the parent up. I sent an email to the principal telling him of my disgust and that he should resign. I suggest everyone else do the same (just avoid foul language and threats).
Frankly, I'll never understand why anyone would apply for a job at IBM, unless he's already desperate. Here in Austin, I know plenty of people who have left IBM over the past few years, most of them willingly. I don't know anyone who has joined IBM in the last 10 years.
Is the proposed law limited to mitochondrial DNA? And even if it is, how long before that restriction is lifted in another law? Once you start down this road, there's no going back. The end result is obvious: a world like Gattaca, where every unborn child will need his DNA tampered just to get a job.
Colonel Sandurz: Try here. Stop. Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie? Colonel Sandurz: Now. You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now. Dark Helmet: What happened to then? Colonel Sandurz: We passed then. Dark Helmet: When? Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We're at now now. Dark Helmet: Go back to then. Colonel Sandurz: When? Dark Helmet: Now. Colonel Sandurz: Now? Dark Helmet: Now. Colonel Sandurz: I can't. Dark Helmet: Why? Colonel Sandurz: We missed it. Dark Helmet: When? Colonel Sandurz: Just now. Dark Helmet: When will then be now? Colonel Sandurz: Soon.
I also love my WD TV Live. I don't need to use Handbrake any more -- anything I rip to an MKV (either DVD or Blu-ray) works great as-is. Any video I've ever downloaded from the Internet also works as-is.
Imagine if they made phones where all communications are encrypted, and all of the encryption keys are stored on the phone itself. Throw in a Tor-like network to scatter packets, and make it so that unencrypted data never goes through Blackberry's networks or servers. Make it so that it's impossible for anyone to find out who is communicating with whom, and the phones will sell like hotcakes.
Try the WD TV Live. I have one, and it's awesome. Plays MKV files ripped straight from a Blu-Ray.
As for Netflix, there appears to be some kind of DNS problem with some devices. I had to set my router to 8.8.8.8 to get my TV to work. Setting the DNS on the TV to 8.8.8.8 was not good enough. I suspect it's a conspiracy between Samsung and Google.
Maybe your 4 month contract requirement is weeding out the good coders that don't want to give up a full-time job for a 4 month test that may leave them without a job if they don't live up to some hard to quantify metric of "good enough".
Exactly. I'm a senior software developer that's never had a problem being employed. Why would I quit my current job to take a risk with a short-term contract? Will I get full benefits during these four months?
No one (least of all him) can explain why he thought it was legit, especially considering how paranoid he is about securing his data. I had to spend a large chunk of my vacation reformatting and re-installing everything on his computer.

Yes, you're absolutely right! Austin sucks! Please don't move here.

Apparently, none of the companies I've ever worked for were on that list, because I'm hounded by clueless recruiters every week.
OS/2 typically could not handle the hardware upgrade necessary for the required audio.
Can you explain this further? I worked on OS/2 multimedia back in the day, and it is more than capable of handling all kinds of audio requirements.
Are you sure you don't suffer from it? One symptom of Cedar Fever is the inability to spell words correctly.

No, it isn't.

I still run Snow Leopard, because I still have a few PowerPC applications that I don't want to update.
Government sets the requirements, industry meets them.

Apparently, industry cannot meet the requirements.

Actually, there are three groups of people: those who know how to count, and those who don't. I know what group I belong to.

Maybe they're suing IBM for allowing a clandestine operation to affect their stock price?
female brains are designed to facilitate communication between analytical and intuitive processing modes.
This sounds to me like women are wired to be better at STEM fields than men.

If you're car is not moving, then technically you're not driving. Granted, the DUI laws disagree, but common sense does not.
I've been working on the Linux kernel for 10 years with numerous commits upstream, and I've never communicated with Linus.

The insult is that I read another stupid post from timothy.
No kidding. The worst performers in our company are those that are friends of the executives.
