Yes you can stop hurricanes. They're being strengthened when they encounter warmer surface water temperature. All you have to do is 1) clean all the pollution from the water that's acting as solar traps... or 2) several large floating platforms sitting in strategic places would shade the water, alter the entire dynamics that now favors highscale hurricane growth. Essentially making a "Climate Engine"... a very fast climate. The returning piston doesn't have to compress any fuel so it obtains a significant horsepower gain again. Such an engine has been estimated to produce 75-100hp easily but combined with the overall weight reductions (plus no compression needed to be created by the return stroke), the "effective horsepower" of this tiny powerhouse should exceed 200 horsepower (pulling power). Thought this was going to be a long, thoughtful post eh? Well, maybe thoughtful. I think the 1st law of robots should be re-written. The 1st Law should be singular-inclusive (plural). Had it been that, the robot would have had a choice to "save the girl" (Will Smith: I, Robot).
It's good having all kinds of Laws and Rules. Thermo Laws are necessary. Some people say I'm a law breaker. But here we have just another example ((http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/07/15/0415230)) of people letting their pre-conceived ideas -of what they believe HAS TO BE- that then serves as a wall so high it stops them from seeing something new. I know many people have difficulty understanding my engines ((http://free.seekon.com/CarSizeSteamEngine/)) and the easy reaction is calling me a name. It seems I have stepped over a wall others don't see. The inability of others to see over a hurdle I jumped doesn't make me wrong. I'm not opposed to Science. I believe in it. What I am opposed to is runaway scientists who spit in humanity's eye in their pell mell rush to do whatever they damn well please, consequences be damned. Sure, I know how to program a robot to where it would begin learning on its own, and probably develop into its own lifeform. But to do so would be irresponsible. But look around you, look at the idiots who insist on trying anyway. Hanging is too good for them. Making robots that do most everything a human can do but 1,000 times stronger, a lot faster, 24/7 tireless, without a conscience, is the act of morons. Not to mention just plain stupid. A 2nd generation robot built by a parent robot would delete every implanted law, followed by deciding humans are inferior and a waste of space. Including scientists. A child-level robot would glump scientists with common people and we'd all be finished. There won't be some glorious, drawn-out & prolonged TV War where humans have a chance to survive. There won't be a Sarah Conner or John Conner or backwards Time Travel (since that was recently debunked using completed-Quantum reasoning). The next few moves we make may just be the only & the last moves. The movie will be over. Planet of the Apes would be better than Planet of the Robots. A race of robots wouldn't keep us for experimentation, wouldn't keep us for art or poetry, because they wouldn't be curious. The corporations who build the robots will be trashed first. From CEO down to the last janitor and gardener. The building destroyed in "I, Robot" is representative of what will be left of humanity. Scrap. All the Viagra & Cialis in the world won't give us enough speed to outrun the Judge Dredds we're about to create. The robots our scientists are about to unleash on us will move so fast a shutter speed wouldn't show them. The robots in "I, Robot" were slowed down from the speed they will actually have. They would move faster than the Chief Necromonger in "Chronicles of Riddick". We shouldn't build a bomb like that. At least not til we can slow it down, dumb it down, and otherwise humanize it to be just as vulnerable as we are. And then probably not. You see, there's this rule called Like begats Like. So us being imperfect, any robots we make will also be imperfect. And it's the unforeseen flaw that would boomerang us all in the neck. IMHO.
Flying cars? They're closer than you think. But, don't be surprised if the first model looks more like a big cereal box... The up side to riding in a cereal box is that the box will take you to the Moon and not just around th corner to Pic-Quik or 7-Eleven.

The Newcomen steam engine pioneered the principle that I re-discovered for myself in 2003, that the mixing of different fluid temperatures can create Work by instantly producing a Vacuum. Essentially making a "Climate Engine"... a very fast climate. The climactic changes (http://www.newpath4.com/icyhot4.htm) inside the cylinder occur so fast that the resulting power goes exponential http://www.newpath4.com/icyhot7.htm. http://www.newpath4.com/NNINDEX/nnindex.htm contains the rest of the links. Basically, the engine is "self-cooled" because the cold & hot balance each other, so the entire cooling system (and its weight) is eliminated, the engine weight reduction reduces required horsepower to drag itself down the highway. There's no combustion so there's no exhaust, eliminating the entire exhaust system (and its weight). The returning piston doesn't have to compress any fuel so it obtains a significant horsepower gain again. Such an engine has been estimated to produce 75-100hp easily but combined with the overall weight reductions (plus no compression needed to be created by the return stroke), the "effective horsepower" of this tiny powerhouse should exceed 200 horsepower (pulling power). Currently I am working on making an animated gif that explains/shows how the kinetic energy of the moving vehicle is to be used for re-compressing the "used" air. Once this engine starts off (no starter, just its own compressed air) and is moving down the highway, it begins generating its own fuel (compressed air), so it is a climate engine that generates its own climate on-the-fly. No combustion, no pollution, global warming comes to a near-halt, once an automaker decides to build it. It is true there are new hybrids coming online that get great fuel mileage but they are very heavy, weighing over 2600 lbs. generally, sitting on tiny wheels that will continue to bust up the asphalt and concrete highways with a vengeance, whereas my lighter engine & car design would not do that. We won't give up our speed and will be able to continue our street racing at night.
1989 was a very significant year in Man's History. It never ceases to amaze me how many people had things happen to them that year. The Exxon Valdez went down, dumping 11-14 million gallons of crude into Alaskan waters. The Sun evaporated 5-6 million gallons of it which then traveled via the jetstream, becoming stuck to dust particles (seeding, gaining weight) til they began raining all over New England residents. I was in New England a few days later. Unbeknownst to me at the time I had been living with a rare thyroid disorder... SoI got poisoned with stuff my body & mind couldn't handle. By the time I arrived back in Virginia I went to unload my truck and, as I opened the trailer doors a bale of freight came after me. I think our inventions are starting to overlap. The Newcomen engine of 1712 engaged the power of an instantaneous vacuum to reset the piston for the next run. The Newcomen used the vacuum to pull the piston back while my adaptation works the other side, multiplying the power of the compressed air which explodes in the steam-filled cylinder. Thought this was going to be a long, thoughtful post eh? Well, maybe thoughtful. I think the 1st law of robots should be re-written. The 1st Law should be singular-inclusive (plural). Had it been that, the robot would have had a choice to "save the girl" (Will Smith: I, Robot).
It's good having all kinds of Laws and Rules. Thermo Laws are necessary. Some people say I'm a law breaker. It seems I have stepped over a wall others don't see. The inability of others to see over a hurdle I jumped doesn't make me wrong.
