Studies suggest new impact craters might appear at only about one-fifth the pace assumed previously
Okay, we're using impact craters for age definition. On a surface as windy and subject to sand storms as Mars' is, isn't that a bit subjective? Can they really extrapolate the age of a surface based on erosion?
In the next paragraph they state,
However, the extent and duration of dust storms varied from year to year.
Seems to me they may need to reevaluate age determination some more.
And if you're in the US, ask about Sarbanes-Oxley! The security requriements that need to be put in place to meet SOX compliance can be a budget shocker. If any of your systems are supporting financial information, and the firm is expected to grow, this is a must. Plan for IT security today and it will be easier to implement when you must, tomorrow.
I agree, it makes much more sense to have a short term goal to convert this data to a more modern format. That would give them the time to gather necessary funds and work on the data analysis.
We examined information related to TSA's role in fourteen transfers of airline passenger data.9 In two cases, these transfers did not result in any data review or analysis on the part of the recipients. Collectively, the remaining transfers involved more than 12 million records associated with passengers traveling on at least six air carriers....
And this is just sample data!
Personally, I have multiple computers with multiple OS's that I multitask between. That's when I'm most productive. Each OS has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Use them for what they are each good at.
This is indicative to all the other things we are "required" to do, and sheep that we are, continue to do.
Not to skew the topic, but, how many times have you had to produce your social security number? To get a phone number, a mortgage or rent, electrical service, credit, a job! The list goes on. Where's the law that says I have to give out my SSN or other personal information to get basic goods and services? Try doing it without.
This just leads to the whole identity theft problem, too. We contribute to the problem, we are part of the problem if we continue to be sheep.
Another case of Microsoft biting it's own nose to spite it's own face?
for the fem-geek. I'd prefer something as functional but a bit more streamlined and feminine looking. Who says tech-wear has to be big and bulky?
Just won't be able to to the theatre any more!
What I want to know is how did they get that cream on a prostate?

Oh great! Now I'm getting spammed by my mouse. What'll be next? My chair?
